Guidance on how to apply for Emergency Repair and Restoration Vehicle Exclusions.
Section 701 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005) requires Federal agencies to use alternative fuel in dual-fueled vehicles when it is reasonably available and not unreasonably more expensive than gasoline (42 U.S.C. Section 6374(a)(3)(E)). Since 2007, Federal agencies have requested waivers for vehicles from the Section 701 requirements as part of a June data call for the subsequent fiscal year (FY). The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) has reviewed those waiver requests and granted or denied them prior to the subsequent FY. At the end of each FY, DOE FEMP has reviewed each Federal agency's covered alternative fuel use and compared it to total fuel use in non-waivered vehicles to determine compliance. This guidance provides two different processes through which DOE will begin evaluating waiver requests for FY 2021 (beginning with the FY 2020 data call): Automated reporting in the Federal Fleet Sustainability Dashboard (FleetDASH), and waiver requests in FAST.

This guide will prioritize cybersecurity best practices that can be testing and developed for a potential future standard. This presentation will highlight NREL's ongoing work in this area and future areas of research.
Presentation for Procurement webinar providing technical guidance for entities, procuring Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Inverter Based Resources (IBR), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and other energy digital systems and services on how to incorporate cybersecurity requirements into the procurement process to enhance both supply chain security as well as entity-specific supply chain risk management (SCRM) programs.
The U.S. Department of Energy developed an electronic planning spreadsheet to facilitate fleets' preparation of a complete Alternative Compliance (AC) waiver application. All fleets that participate in AC are encouraged to use the spreadsheet. The example in this guidance document includes all components that must be included in a fleet’s AC waiver application.
During laparoscopic surgery, the Veress needle is commonly used in pneumoperitoneum establishment. Precise placement of the Veress needle is still a challenge for the surgeon. In this study, a computer-aided endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT) system was developed to effectively and safely guide Veress needle insertion. This endoscopic system was tested by imaging subcutaneous fat, muscle, abdominal space, and the small intestine from swine samples to simulate the surgical process, including the situation with small intestine injury. Each tissue layer was visualized in OCT images with unique features and subsequently used to develop a system for automatic localization of the Veress needle tip by identifying tissue layers (or spaces) and estimating the needle-to-tissue distance. We used convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in automatic tissue classification and distance estimation. In conclusion, the average testing accuracy in tissue classification was 98.53 ± 0.39%, and the average testing relative error in distance estimation reached 4.42 ± 0.56% (36.09 ± 4.92 μm).
A grand challenge in materials research is identifying the relationship between composition and performance. Herein, we explore this relationship for magnetic properties, specifically magnetic saturation (M s ) and magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (K) of ferrites. Ferrites are materials derived from magnetite (chemical formula = Fe 3 O 4 ) that comprise metallic elements such as Fe, Mn, Ni, Co, Cu and Zn. Experimentally, synthesizing and characterizing ferrites is time consuming. Further, selection of compositions to achieve particular magnetic properties currently relies on intuition. To address this, in this work, density functional theory (DFT) is used to predict M s and K for 571 ferrite structures. These structures are primarily double-substituted non-stoichiometric ferrites with formulae M1 x M2 y Fe 3–x–y O 4 , where M1 and M2 can be Mn, Ni, Co, Cu and/or Zn and 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 and y = 1–x. Calculated magnetic properties for the structures in this study vary from 0.04 × 10 5 to 9.6 × 10 5 A m −1 for M s and from 0.02 × 10 5 to 14.08 × 10 5 J m −3 for K. All structures are made publicly available in a FAIR database.

Evolutionary neural network architecture search (ENAS) has attracted the attention of many experts due to its global optimization capabilities to automatically search for convolutional neural network architectures based on the target task. The current search space for ENAS is not to design a fully structured network, but to search for smaller cell architectures to reduce search costs. However, blind search strategies do not effectively utilize the potential experience of the population. In order to utilize the potential experience learned by the current population to guide the evolutionary search of the population, we propose a similarity guided neural network architecture search algorithm based on cell architecture, which utilizes the similarity between pairwise architectures in the population as empirical knowledge learned by the population. Our proposed algorithm provides a novel method for calculating architecture similarity, which calculates architecture similarity separately from the cell and macro-structure. Then we decouple the connections and operations in the cell and calculate connection and operation similarity separately. In addition, we propose adaptive similarity selection and binary tournament selection strategies to enhance the algorithm’s global and local search capabilities and effectively explore the search space. Finally, we design an improved single-point crossover operator to enhance the local search ability of the evolutionary operator. The experimental results show that SAGNAS is a competitive algorithm that achieves 97.44% and 81.60% in CIFAR10 and CIFAR100 with only 1.9 GPU-days spent.
The clinical cell-cycle risk (CCR) score, which combines the University of California, San Francisco's Cancer of the Prostate Risk Assessment (CAPRA) and the cell cycle progression (CCP) molecular score, has been validated to be prognostic of disease progression for men with prostate cancer. This study evaluated the ability of the CCR score to prognosticate the risk of metastasis in men receiving dose-escalated radiation therapy (RT) with or without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Cryogenic focused ion beam (Cryo-FIB) milling has become a standard step in the cryogenic electron tomography (Cryo-ET) workflow and is required to thin cells to electron-semitransparency. However, this destructive process removes the vast majority of the cellular material and raises a critical question: what thin section should be preserved for Cryo-ET analysis? Using a tri-coincident cryogenic FIB-SEM-LM system, we identify an interferometric optical response that can be used for targeting lamella production to fluorescently labeled structures with accuracy beyond the diffraction limit. Here we demonstrate this approach using synthetic samples of fluorescent beads embedded in micron-scale droplets of amorphous ice. We then apply the approach to capture virions inside host cells. Successful targeting is confirmed by Cryo-ET revealing clusters of virions in intracellular vesicles. The method does not require any fluorescent fiducials or axial registration and can be performed on any fluorescently labeled structure that is visible in widefield fluorescence microscopy.
Epidural anesthesia requires injection of anesthetic into the epidural space in the spine. Accurate placement of the epidural needle is a major challenge. To address this, we developed a forward-view endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for real-time imaging of the tissue in front of the needle tip during the puncture. We tested this OCT system in porcine backbones and developed a set of deep learning models to automatically process the imaging data for needle localization. A series of binary classification models were developed to recognize the five layers of the backbone, including fat, interspinous ligament, ligamentum flavum, epidural space, and spinal cord. The classification models provided an average classification accuracy of 96.65%. During puncture, it is important to maintain a safe distance between the needle tip and the dura mater. Regression models were developed to estimate that distance based on the OCT imaging data. Based on the Inception architecture, our models achieved a mean absolute percentage error of 3.05% ± 0.55%. Overall, our results validated the technical feasibility of using this novel imaging strategy to automatically recognize different tissue structures and measure the distances ahead of the needle tip during the epidural needle placement.
In a biologic therapeutic landscape that requires versatility in targeting specificity, valency and half-life modulation, the monomeric Fc fusion platform holds exciting potential for the creation of a class of monovalent protein therapeutics that includes fusion proteins and bispecific targeting molecules. Here we report a structure-guided approach to engineer monomeric Fc molecules to adapt multiple versions of half-life extension modifications. Co-crystal structures of these monomeric Fc variants with Fc neonatal receptor (FcRn) shed light into the binding interactions that could serve as a guide for engineering the half-life of antibody Fc fragments. These engineered monomeric Fc molecules also enabled the generation of a novel monovalent bispecific molecular design, which translated the FcRn binding enhancement to improvement of in vivo serum half-life.
Computational and experimental results detail the speciation and stability of Np( vii ) under varied pH conditions. Sequential protonation reactions and their thermodynamic feasibility for the Np( vii )O 4 (OH) 2 3+ to Np( vi )O 2 2+ transition are discussed.
Here, we numerically examine vortices interacting with pinning arrays where a portion of the pinning sites have been removed in order to create coexisting regions of strong and weak pinning. The region without pinning sites acts as an easy-flow channel. For driving in different directions with respect to the channel, we observe distinct types of vortex flow. When the drive is parallel to the channel, the flow first occurs in the pin free region followed by a secondary depinning transition in the pinned region. At high vortex densities there is also an intermediate plastic flow phase due to the coupling between the weak and strong pinning regions. For driving applied perpendicular to the channel, we observe a jammed phase in which vortices accumulate on the boundary of the pinned region due to the vortex-vortex repulsion, while at higher drives the vortices begin to flow through the pinning array. For driving at an angle to the channel, depending on the filling we observe a drive-induced reentrant pinning effect as well as negative differential mobility which occurs when vortices move from the unpinned to the pinned portion of the sample.
