Hyper Spectral Anomaly Detection

The HSA is a statistics based anomaly detection model. The model performs unsupervised anomaly detection, based on a datapoint's density and similarity within a dataset. Density and similarity data are encoded into an affinity matrix. The affinity matrix is evolved to summarize the data's structure on greater topographical scales within the data's function space. The set of evolved affinity matrices and an anomaly score vector are passed to a user defined penalized objective function. The penalized objective function of anomaly scores is then minimized. Data points where the absolute value of the z-scores of anomaly scores greater than a specified threshold are predicted as anomalies. A novel multi-filter feature has also been implemented. To reduce false positive rates, the multi-filter records the indexes of the HSA predictions. A new dataset and data loader are instantiated consisting of all the initial HSA predictions and non-anomalous data points in a 10% and 90% split respectively. The HSA is then run through this data set and a count of number of times a data point is predicted is kept. In this way the initial predictions may be compared with data spanning the entire dataset. After the multi-filter is complete, all datapoints will have an associated anomaly score, as well as a multi-filter prediction count to further filter the anomalous predictions.

INTREPID program: technology and architecture for next-generation, energy-efficient, hyper-scale data centers [Invited]

The INTREPID program is developing power-efficient coherent optics for package-level integration with future switch integrated circuits as a path to realizing higher-radix switches for flatter networks. The link architecture is underpinned by coherent quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) polarization-multiplex transceivers at 200 Gb/s per λ <#comment/> , further enhanced with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) to enable energy-efficient 800 or 1600 Gb/s inter-switch fiber connections. The technology is compatible with conventional three-level data center designs as well as a two-level data center design introduced here, which includes an added layer of passive, arrayed waveguide grating routers (AWGRs) or WDM circuit switches to further improve the cost, energy efficiency, and latency of the network.

Hyper Parameter Tuning in Neural Optical Image Categorizer for the E-log (NOICE

The Fermilab Accelerator Division Electronic logbook (E-log) is a record of all the activities and events in the Division for the past 10 years and more. The Elog search function is a valuable resource and the institutional memory of the accelerator complex. About 300,000 files are stored in the E-log, of which the vast majority are images attached to entries and comments. The visual information contained in the images is not presently searchable. The goal of team NOICE (Neural Optical Image Categorizer for the E-log) was to design a neural network able to produce label categories for these images for use by searches. The group developed a dataset and trained a convolutional neural network (CNN) with optimized hyperparameter. Final performance metrics are presented.

Mechanical Behavior of Hybrids with Hyper-Connected Molecular Networks

Our research is focused on fundamental studies related to the molecular design, synthesis, characterization and modeling of molecular-reinforced hybrid glass films for superior mechanical and fracture properties. Molecular-reinforced hybrid glass films exhibit unique electro-optical properties while maintaining excellent thermal stability. They have important technological application for emerging nanoscience and energy technologies including anti-reflective and ultra-barrier layers in photovoltaics, display technologies, as well as quantum technologies. However, they are often inherently brittle in nature, do not adhere well to adjacent substrates, and exhibit poor mechanical properties. Furthermore, a robust understanding of the underlying mechanisms of deformation, fracture and fatigue has been lacking particularly given their mechanically fragile nature. The related lack of structure-property relationships between molecular structure, mechanical properties and processing represents a fundamental challenge to their integration into device technologies, compromises their thermomechanical reliability and has thwarted efforts to improve mechanical and, particularly, fracture properties.

Renewable Octane Hyper boosting Blendstock for High-Efficiency (CRADA 494)

The goal of this project is to scale up the chemistry developed by Visolis to produce a high energy-density fuel blend stock mixture from fermentation derived intermediate. Fuel property measurements will be conducted on the initial mixture to guide process refinement to produce a blend stock mixture that has the optimum composition and combustion properties to boost the octane rating of the finished fuels.
