Cross section measurements of the $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{*–}$ and $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{–}$ processes at center-of-mass energies from 4.085 to 4.600 GeV

The Born cross sections of the $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{*–}$ and $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{–}$ processes are measured using $e^+e^–$ collision data collected with the BESIII experiment at center-of-mass energies from 4.085 to 4.600 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15.7 fb -1 . The results are consistent with and more precise than the previous measurements by the Belle, Babar and CLEO collaborations. The measurements are essential for understanding the nature of vector charmonium and charmonium-like states.

Measurement of the B 0 lifetime and flavor-oscillation frequency using hadronic decays reconstructed in 2019–2021 Belle II data

We measure the B0 lifetime and flavor-oscillation frequency using B 0 → D(*) – π + decays collected by the Belle II experiment in asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e – collisions produced by the SuperKEKB collider operating at the Υ⁡(4⁢S) resonance. We fit the decay-time distribution of signal decays, where the initial flavor is determined by identifying the flavor of the other B meson in the event. The results, based on 33000 signal decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to 190 fb –1 , are τ B 0 = (1.499 ± 0.013 ± 0.008) ps, Δ⁢m d = (0.516 ± 0.008 ± 0.005) ps –1 , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are consistent with the world-average values.

Evidence of the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0

Evidence for the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0 is reported for the first time with a statistical significance of 3.7 σ based on 6.0 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.843 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p π 0 is measured to be ( 1.5 6 − 0.58 + 0.72 ± 0.20 ) × 10 − 4 . Combining with the branching fraction of Λ c + → n π + , ( 6.6 ± 1.3 ) × 10 − 4 , the ratio of the branching fractions of Λ c + → n π + and Λ c + → p π 0 is calculated to be 3.2 − 1.2 + 2.2 . As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the nonfactorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p η is measured to be ( 1.63 ± 0.3 1 stat ± 0.1 1 syst ) × 10 − 3 . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

The Linear Collider Vision calls for a Linear Collider Facility with a physics reach from a Higgs Factory to the TeV-scale with $e^+e^{-}$ collisions. One of the technologies under consideration for the accelerator is a cold-copper distributed-coupling linac capable of achieving high gradient. This technology is being pursued by the C$^3$ collaboration to understand its applicability to future colliders and broader scientific applications. In this input we share the baseline parameters for a C$^3$ Higgs-factory and the energy reach of up to 3 TeV in the 33 km tunnel foreseen under the Linear Collider Vision. Recent results, near-term plans and future R&D needs are highlighted.

Measurement of the branching fractions of the decays Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + , Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + , and Λ c + → Λ K * +

Studies are performed of the Cabibbo-favored decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + , based on a sample of e + e − collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb − 1 , accumulated at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector. The decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + is observed for the first time. The branching fractions of Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + and Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + are measured to be ( 3.04 ± 0.30 ± 0.16 ) × 10 − 3 and ( 1.73 ± 0.27 ± 0.10 ) × 10 − 3 , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results correspond to the most precise measurement of these quantities for both decays. Evidence of a K * + contribution in the Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + decay is found with a statistical significance of 4.71 σ . The branching fraction of Λ c + → Λ K * + is calculated under three possible interference scenarios, with the significance increasing to 5.03 σ when interference is taken into account. Model-independent determination of the strong-phase difference between D 0 and D ¯ 0 → π + π − π + π − decays

Measurements of the strong-phase difference between D 0 and D ¯ 0 → π + π − π + π − are performed in bins of phase space. The study exploits a sample of quantum-correlated D D ¯ mesons collected by the BESIII experiment in e + e − collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb − 1 . Here, D denotes a neutral charm meson in a superposition of flavor eigenstates. The reported results are valuable for measurements of the C P -violating phase γ (also denoted ϕ 3 ) in B ± → D K ± , D → π + π − π + π − decays, and the binning schemes are designed to provide good statistical sensitivity to this parameter. The expected uncertainty on γ arising from the precision of the strong-phase measurements, when applied to very large samples of B -meson decays, is around 1.5° or 2°, depending on the binning scheme. The binned strong-phase parameters are combined to give a value of F + 4 π = 0.746 ± 0.010 ± 0.004 for the C P -even fraction of D 0 → π + π − π + π − decays, which is around 30% more precise than the previous best measurement of this quantity. Measurement of branching fractions and direct C P asymmetries for B → K π and B → π π decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct C P asymmetries of the decays B 0 → K + π − , B + → K + π 0 , B + → K 0 π + , and B 0 → K 0 π 0 , and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct C P asymmetry of the decay B + → π + π 0 and the branching fraction of the decay B 0 → π + π − . The data are collected with the elle II detector from e + e − collisions at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387 × 10 6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain − 0.03 ± 0.13 ± 0.04 for the sum rule in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations. Measurement of the branching fraction of ${\textrm{D}}_{\textrm{s}}^{+}$ → τ + ν τ via τ + → μ+ν μ $\overline{\nu}$τ

Utilizing 7 . 33 fb - 1 of e + e - collision data taken at the center-of-mass energies of 4.128, 4.157, 4.178, 4.189, 4.199, 4.209, 4.219, and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of the leptonic decay ${D}_s^{+}$ → τ + ν τ via τ + → μ + ν μ $\overline{\nu}$ τ is measured to be ${\mathcal{B}}_{D_s^{+}\to {\tau}^{+}{\nu}_{\tau }}$ = (5 . 37 ± 0 . 17 stat ± 0 . 15 syst )%. Combining this branching fraction with the world averages of the measurements of the masses of τ + and ${D}_s^{+}$ as well as the lifetime of ${D}_s^{+}$, we extract the product of the decay constant of ${D}_s^{+}$ and the c → s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element to be ${f}_{D_s^{+}}$ |V cs | = (246 . 7 ± 3 . 9 stat ± 3 . 6 syst ) MeV. Taking |V cs | from a global fit in the standard model we obtain ${f}_{D_s^{+}}$ = (253 . 4 ± 4 . 0 stat ± 3 . 7 syst ) MeV. Conversely, taking ${f}_{D_s^{+}}$ from lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations, we obtain |V cs | = 0 . 987 ± 0 . 016 stat ± 0 . 014 syst .

Novel method for the identification of the production flavor of neutral charmed mesons

We propose a new algorithm for the identification of the production flavor of neutral D mesons in the Belle II experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation between the flavor of a reconstructed neutral D meson (signal D meson) and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the e + e – →$c\bar{c}$ event. These include those originating from the decay of the other charm hadron produced in the event, as well as those possibly produced in association with the signal D meson. We develop the algorithm using simulation and calibrate it in data using decay modes that identify the flavor of the decaying neutral D meson. We use a data sample of e + e – collisions, corresponding to 362 fb –1 of integrated luminosity, collected by Belle II at center-of-mass energies near the Υ(4S) mass. The effective tagging efficiency in data is (47.91±0.07 (stat) ±0.51 (syst)) %, independent of the neutral-D-meson decay mode. This charm flavor tagger will approximately double the effective sample size of many CP-violation and charm-mixing measurements that so far have exclusively relied on neutral D mesons originating from D* ± decays. While developed for Belle II, the basic principles underlying the charm flavor tagger can be used in other experiments, including those at hadron colliders.

Precision measurements of Higgs hadronic decay modes at the FCC-ee

The expected precision at the FCC-ee on the product $σ$ x $\mathcal{B} \large{(}H → b\bar{b}, c\bar{c}, s\bar{s}, gg\large{)}$ of Higgs boson production cross sections times branching ratios of hadronic decays is presented. This study provides the first comprehensive determination of all major hadronic Higgs decay modes in a combined fit at future $e^+e^−$ colliders, using both Higgs-strahlung $(ZH)$ and Vector boson fusion $(v\bar{v}H)$ production processes, with a full treatment of interference effects in the $v\bar{v}jj$ final state. It assumes four identical IDEA detectors collecting $e^+e^−$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 240 and 365 GeV. The combination of all channels across both energies, with full covariance between production and decay modes, yields a production cross-section times branching-ratio precision at the percent to per-mil level for the dominant hadronic final states $(b\bar{b}, c\bar{c}, gg)$. These results provide a comprehensive input to the determination of Higgs coupling projections at the FCC-ee, and they establish for the first time sensitivity to the rare decay $H → s\bar{s}$, demonstrating that FCC-ee has the potential to provide evidence of the strange-quark Yukawa coupling.

Measurement of branching fractions, C P asymmetry, and isospin asymmetry for B → ρ γ decays using Belle and Belle II data

Search for a τ + τ - Resonance in e + e - → μ + μ - τ + τ - Events with the Belle II Experiment

We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into $τ$ pairs in $e^+e^-$ → $μ^+μ^-τ^+τ^-$ events in the 3.6–10 GeV/c 2 mass range. We use a 62.8 fb -1 sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $τ$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/c 2 and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.
