Inventory of wetland habitat using remote sensing for the proposed Oahe irrigation unit in eastern South Dakota

An inventory of wetlands for the area included in the proposed Oahe irrigation project was conducted to provide supplemental data for the wildlife mitigation plan. Interpretation techniques for inventoring small wetlands in the low relief terrain of the Lake Dakota Plain were documented and data summaries included. The data were stored and tabulated in a computerized spatial data analysis system.

Catalog of solar wind events identified from observations by ISTP spacecraft

The ISTP Science Planning and Operations Facility (SPOF), in collaboration with ISTP investigators, is developing a catalog of solar wind events and features. The catalog is primarily based on plasma and magnetic field observations from the WIND and IMP-8 spacecraft. Interplanetary events that may trigger magnetospheric activity are included as well as features of interest for using the solar wind as a plasma laboratory. Catalog coverage begins on September 8, 1992, the start of ISTP science data collection. The catalog is based on Key Parameter data sets (preliminary summary data at approximately 1 min time resolution produced quickly for survey purposes) and as such has limited citability in formal scientific work. Its primary intent is to serve as a reference for identifying candidate periods for further study, such as may be the focus of coordinated data analysis efforts during ISTP and/or IACG Science Campaigns. To facilitate access by members of the ISTP and wider space physics communities, the catalog will be available on the World Wide Web. The contents of the catalog will be described, and samples of catalog information will be presented.

Circulating levels of micronutrients and risk of osteomyelitis: a Mendelian randomization study

Background Few observational studies have investigated the effect of micronutrients on osteomyelitis, and these findings are limited by confounding and conflicting results. Therefore, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to evaluate the association between blood levels of eight micronutrients (copper, selenium, zinc, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and vitamin D, vitamin B6, vitamin E) and the risk of osteomyelitis. Methods We performed the two-sample and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) to investigate causation, where instrument variables for the predictor (micronutrients) were derived from the summary data of micronutrients from independent cohorts of European ancestry. The outcome instrumental variables were used from the summary data of European-ancestry individuals ( n = 486,484). The threshold of statistical significance was set at p < 0.00625. Results We found a significant causal association that elevated zinc heightens the risk of developing osteomyelitis in European ancestry individuals OR = 1.23 [95% confidence interval (CI) [1.07, 1.43]; p = 4.26E-03]. Similarly, vitamin B6 showed a similar significant causal effect on osteomyelitis as a risk factor OR = 2.78 (95% CI [1.34, 5.76]; p = 6.04E-03; in the secondary analysis). Post-hoc analysis suggested this result (vitamin B6). However, the multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) provides evidence against the causal association between zinc and osteomyelitis OR = 0.98(95% CI [−0.11, 0.07]; p = 7.20E-1). After searching in PhenoScanner, no SNP with confounding factors was found in the analysis of vitamin B6. There was no evidence of a reverse causal impact of osteomyelitis on zinc and vitamin B6. Conclusion This study supported a strong causal association between vitamin B6 and osteomyelitis while reporting a dubious causal association between zinc and osteomyelitis.

Status on the Recovery of Voyager Plasma Electron Observations at Jupiter

We give status report on the recovery of Voyager 1 and 2 plasma electron observations during their Jupiter flybys. The plan is to complete this analysis including new results never published before. The original summary data tapes and later datafiles were evidently permanently lost along with our past analysis results of the plasma electron observations except for that shown in previous publications. These summary data tapes included the plasma ion and electron raw datafiles, status words needed to convert data numbers to currents, SEDR data with trajectory and attitude information and magnetic field measurements. In addition to recovering the plasma electron plasma observations (electron intensities and fluid parameters of the thermal and suprathermal electron populations, respectively), the SEDR trajectory information during the out bound passes were lost but fortunately in the past the SEDR files were converted to Spice Kernals, so this unexpected problem was solved. In addition, we had to rewrite our read routines it looked like the previous read routines so the rest of the Fortran code could be used; the Fortran- code had to be modified to work with the latest compilers and computer platforms. We will report on the- status of our work- originally funded under the Planetary Data Archiving, Restoration, and Tools (PDART)program but now being funded by the Internal Scientist Funding Model (ISFM) Exosphere Ionosphere Magnetospheres Modeling (EIMM)program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Leveraging Existing Bioenergy Data: Workshop Summary Report

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) invests in a diverse portfolio of technologies to ensure domestic energy security, continued economic competitiveness, environmental sustainability, and the availability of cleaner fuels and power. The mission of EERE’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is to develop transformative and revolutionary sustainable bioenergy technologies for a prosperous nation. BETO develops technologies that convert domestic biomass and waste resources into fuels, products, and power to enable affordable energy, economic growth, and innovation in renewable energy and chemicals production. This report summarizes the input received from attendees of the public workshop sponsored by BETO on July 21–23, 2020, as well as input received from a Request for Information (RFI) run in August and September 2019.

Free turbulent shear flows. Volume 2: Summary of data

The proceedings of a conference on free turbulent shear flows are presented. Objectives of the conference are as follows: (1) collect and process data for a variety of free mixing problems, (2) assess present theoretical capability for predicting mean velocity, concentration, and temperature distributions in free turbulent flows, (3) identify and recommend experimental studies to advance knowledge of free shear flows, and (4) increase understanding of basic turbulent mixing process for application to free shear flows. Examples of specific cases of jet flow are included.
