Document Configuration Management (DCM) Team Weapon Product Definition Group

Document Configuration Management (DCM) is the ongoing process of identifying and managing changes to deliverables and other work products. ALDW’s Document Configuration Plan provides a systematic, standardized process for the configuration management of documents to ensure that the most current and/or appropriate documents are being used, that any canceled or superseded document is properly processed, and that both a clear history and traceability of previous revisions are available.

Grand Teton National Park Federal Fleet Tiger Team EVSE Site Assessment

The U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) helps federal agencies reduce petroleum consumption and increase alternative fuel use through its resources for sustainable federal fleets. A key element of this assistance involves supporting agencies in the transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Fleet electrification is part of a federal policy to achieve net-zero emissions economy-wide and a carbon pollution-free electricity sector, established through two executive orders (EOs) - EO 14008: Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad and EO 14057: Catalyzing America's Clean Energy Industries and Jobs through Federal Sustainability. This site report supports the development of a ZEV deployment plan for the Grand Teton National Park (GRTE) that can ultimately be incorporated into the overall Department of the Interior ZEV fleet strategy.

Loretta Ortega: A leader who stands beside her team (not above them)

From a young age, Loretta Ortega (NPI-7) picked up the meaning of hard work, discipline and respect as she helped her father and siblings on their ranch with everything from feeding animals and tractor work to helping with equipment maintenance. Her father never differentiated between the boys or girls in her family. In his eyes, they were all capable of doing everything on the ranch.

Team Bingaman-Fish Friendly Gravitational Vortex Energy System - Fish Protection Prize (Final Report)

In FY2020, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) initiated a Prize competition with support from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Water Power Technologies Office (DOE WPTO), to support the development of innovative methods for excluding fish from water diversions and intakes: the Fish Protection Prize. Proposed solutions can include new ideas for addressing fish exclusion or improvements to existing technologies. Solutions can be applied to river and canal diversions, unscreened diversion pipes, or intakes at dams. In FY20 PNNL provided voucher support in the form of technical reviews and support, as well as graphics and presentation support, in helping the 9 finalists prepare for the Pitch Contest at the American Fisheries Society (AFS) virtual meeting. There were no subject inventions, patent applications, copyrights, and trademarks under this CRADA. The report herein provides an abstract of the presentation that the finalist presented at the American Fisheries Society virtual meeting in September 2020.

Waste Control Specialists Technical Review Team Report

1. Modeling of Drum 68660 and the WCS Drums: A calibrated model of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Drum 68660 indicates that pressurization of the drum by restriction of drum venting could have led to the thermal runaway reaction at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in 2014, supporting the hypothesis that the contents of the drum were not fundamentally different from the overall remediated nitrate salt (RNS) waste stream. 2. Nitric Acid Reactions and Aging of the Waste: The stability of the WCS RNS waste with respect to autocatalytic thermal runaway due to nitric acid chemistry should increase over time as the nitric acid is depleted from chemical reactions in the drum. However, this cannot be confirmed because of the lack of long-term experimental data on the impact of aging on the reactivity of RNS waste. The calibrated model indicates that the waste drums retain most of their reactive components, metal nitrate salts and sWheat Scoop ® , even after eight years. 3. Pressure Effects and Runaway Reactions: The calibrated model indicates that if the drums and standard waste boxes (SWBs) are not allowed to pressurize during transport or storage and they are stored at historical WIPP repository temperatures, then an autocatalytic thermal runaway event is not expected to occur. Since the cause of Drum 68660 pressurization is not known, decision makers are not able to tailor mitigating strategies to the initiating event. Consequently, mitigating strategies must consider all feasible internal and external events that could lead to the pressurization of the drums. 4. Temperature Effects and Runaway Reactions: Temperature also has a strong influence on the stability of the waste. The calibrated model indicates that cooling the drums or SWBs can reduce the possibility of autocatalytic thermal runaway reactions. Simulations suggest that for a drum with a plugged vent, the probability of thermal runaway may be reduced or eliminated if wastes are maintained at or below 43 °F through active cooling measures from the initiation of transport until emplacement at WIPP.
