Transparent Spin Method for Spin Control of Hadron Beams in Colliders

We present a new method for control of the ion polarization, which is at the basis of the figure-8 ring design of the Jefferson Lab Electron Ion Collider project. The spin transparency is achieved by designing such a synchrotron structure that the net spin rotation angle in one particle turn is zero. The polarization direction of any ions including deuterons can be efficiently controlled using weak quasi-static fields. These fields allow for dynamic adjustment of the polarization direction during an experiment. The main features of the Transparent Spin method are illustrated in a figure-8 collider.

Search for Higgs Boson Decays into a Z Boson and a Light Hadronically Decaying Resonance Using 13 TeV pp Collision Data from the ATLAS Detector

A search for Higgs boson decays into a Z boson and a light resonance in two-lepton plus jet events is performed, using a p p collision dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb–1 collected at √ s = 13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The resonance considered is a light boson with a mass below 4 GeV from a possible extended scalar sector or a charmonium state. Multivariate discriminants are used for the event selection and for evaluating the mass of the light resonance. No excess of events above the expected background is found. Observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction to a Z boson and the signal resonance, with values in the range 17–340 pb ($16^{+6}_{– 5}–320^{+130}_{–90}$ pb) for the different light spin-0 boson mass and branching fraction hypotheses, and with values of 110 and 100 pb ($100^{+40}_{–30}$ and $100^{+40}_{–30}$ pb ) for the $η_c$ and J/ψ hypotheses, respectively.

First Measurement of Antideuteron Number Fluctuations at Energies Available at the Large Hadron Collider

The first measurement of event-by-event antideuteron number fluctuations in high energy heavy-ion collisions is presented. The measurements are carried out at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) as a function of collision centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{^sNN}$=5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector. A significant negative correlation between the produced antiprotons and antideuterons is observed in all collision centralities. The results are compared with a state-of-the-art coalescence calculation. While it describes the ratio of higher order cumulants of the antideuteron multiplicity distribution, it fails to describe quantitatively the magnitude of the correlation between antiproton and antideuteron production. On the other hand, thermal-statistical model calculations describe all the measured observables within uncertainties only for correlation volumes that are different with respect to those describing proton yields and a similar measurement of net-proton number fluctuations.

Observation of Cabibbo-Suppressed Two-Body Hadronic Decays and Precision Mass Measurement of the Ω c 0 Baryon

The first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed Ω c 0 → Ω − K + and Ω c 0 → Ξ − π + decays is reported, using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb − 1 , collected with the LHCb detector between 2016 and 2018. The branching fraction ratios are measured to be B ( Ω c 0 → Ω − K + ) B ( Ω c 0 → Ω − π + ) = [ 6.08 ± 0.51 ( stat ) ± 0.40 ( syst ) ] % , B ( Ω c 0 → Ξ − π + ) B ( Ω c 0 → Ω − π + ) = [ 15.81 ± 0.87 ( stat ) ± 0.44 ( syst ) ± 0.16 ( ext ) ] % . In addition, using the Ω c 0 → Ω − π + decay channel, the Ω c 0 baryon mass is measured to be M ( Ω c 0 ) = 2695.28 ± 0.07 ( stat ) ± 0.27 ( syst ) ± 0.30 ( ext ) MeV , improving the precision of the previous world average by a factor of 4. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2024 CERN

Energy dependence of the cross sections for the e{sup +}e{sup –} → hadrons process near the production threshold for the NN̄ pair

The energy dependence of the cross sections for the processes e{sup +}e{sup −} → π{sup +}π{sup −}π{sup 0}, K{sup +}K{sup −}, ηπ{sup +}π{sup −}, ωπ{sub 0}, and K{sup +}K{sup −}π{sup +}π{sup −} is studied near the production threshold for a nucleon–antinucleon pair. It is shown that, within the measurement errors, the cross sections in question behave smoothly in this energy region.

Cross sections of hadronic reactions e{sup +} e{sup −} → K{sup +} K{sup −} nπ (n =1,2,3) measured with the CMD3 detector at the VEPP-2000 electron-positron collider

We analyze the data on e{sup +} e{sup −} collisions at c.m.s. energies between 0.32 and 2 GeV collected in 2011–2013 with the CMD3 detector operating at the VEPP-3 e{sup +} e{sup −} collider of the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of nearly 60 pb{sup -1}. Preliminary results e{sup +} e{sup −} → K{sup +} K{sup −} nπ (n = 1, 2, 3) on the reactions with two charged kaons in the final state are presented, and the procedure for estimating the integrated luminosity for each energy setting is described.
