The author has identified the following significant results. Information on numbers, distribution, and quality of wetlands in the breeding range of migratory waterfowl is important for the management of this wildlife resource. Using computer processing of data gathered by the ERTS-1 multispectral scanner, techniques for obtaining indices of annual waterfowl recruitment, and habitat quality are examined. As a primary task, thematic maps and statistics relating to open surface water were produced. Discrimination of water was based upon water's low apparent radiance in a single, near-infrared waveband. An advanced technique using multispectral information for discerning open water at a level of detail finer than the virtual resolution of the data was also successfully tested. In another related task, vegetation indicators were used for detecting conditions of latent or occluded water and upland habitat characteristics.

The author has identified the following significant results. Surface water statistics using data obtained by supporting aircraft were generated. Signature extraction and refinement preliminary to wetland and associated upland vegetation recognition were accomplished, using a selected portion of the aircraft data. Final classification mapping and analysis of surface water trends will be accomplished.

A manned recoverable flying machine that operates both in air and space was discussed. This space shuttle precursor was proposed in the early 1900's by Eugen Sanger. The vehicle was especially to be used as the first stage of booster rockets or to ferry, supply and furnish rescue equipment for manned space stations. Basic concepts of the space aircraft, a cross between a powered booster rocket and an aerodynamic glider, are presented.
A number of ways are discussed in which ingenious people can further increase their enjoyment of experimenting in air (balloons, man-powered flight, etc.). For the lowest cost forms of flight, private sponsorship has been modestly successful. Much more could be done if people would not take themselves so seriously and always demand that advanced technology should serve some nationalistic or economic goals. For the society, the next step forward will perhaps originate if it is demonstrated to the government, manufacturers, and customers that private flying has become too costly due to those factors which limit the acquisition and introduction of new knowledge.
Studies of the gastrocnemius muscle were carried out in 4 month old cockerels of the laying hybrid after hypokinesis lasting 15 and 30 days. It was found that restricted movement resulted in dystrophic changes of myotibrils, enlargement of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and oedem of interfibrillar spaces. Histochemical studies revealed focuses of increased activity of non-specific esterase, decreased activity of dehydrogenase of lactic acid and a positive reaction of acid phosphatase.
