Mapping 2-dimensional meshes on 3-dimensional torus

In a L×M×N 3D torus network of computer nodes, a 2-dimensional plane comprising M×N torus network of nodes mapped into M/2 meshes×2*N torus network of nodes. N can be k*M, k is an integer greater than zero, and M and N are even numbers. Each of M/2 mesh of the 2*N torus is contiguous in the 2D plane. Mapping is performed for each of the L planes of the L×M×N 3D torus network. The M/2 meshes are combined with a remaining torus network dimension comprising L planes, the combining creating another 2*N pattern, wherein an L*M/2×2*N communication pattern is created. Application entities are executed according to the mapped L*M/2×2*N communication pattern.

Three-dimensional architectured anode, a direct carbon fuel cell including the three-dimensional architectured anode, and related methods

A method of fabricating a three-dimensional (3D) architectured anode. The method comprises immersing a fabric textile in a precursor solution, the precursor solution comprising a nickel salt and gadolinium doped ceria (GDC). The nickel salt and GDC are absorbed to the fabric textile. The fabric textile comprising the absorbed nickel salt and GDC is removed from the precursor solution and calcined to form a 3D architectured anode comprising nickel oxide and GDC. Additional methods and a direct carbon fuel cell including the 3D architectured anode are also disclosed.

Long-Range Ordered Amorphous Atomic Chains as Building Blocks of a Superconducting Quasi-One-Dimensional Crystal

Crystalline and amorphous structures are two of the most common solid-state phases. Crystals having orientational and periodic translation symmetries are usually both short-range and long-range ordered, while amorphous materials have no long-range order. Short-range ordered but long-range disordered materials are generally categorized into amorphous phases. In contrast to the extensively studied crystalline and amorphous phases, the combination of short-range disordered and long-range ordered structures at the atomic level is extremely rare and so far has only been reported for solvated fullerenes under compression. Here, a report on the creation and investigation of a superconducting quasi-1D material with long-range ordered amorphous building blocks is presented. Using a diamond anvil cell, monocrystalline (TaSe4)(2)I is compressed and a system is created where the TaSe(4)atomic chains are in amorphous state without breaking the orientational and periodic translation symmetries of the chain lattice. Strikingly, along with the amorphization of the atomic chains, the insulating (TaSe4)(2)I becomes a superconductor. The data provide critical insight into a new phase of solid-state materials. The findings demonstrate a first ever case where superconductivity is hosted by a lattice with periodic but amorphous constituent atomic chains.

Two-Dimensional Uranyl Borates: From Conventional to Extreme Synthetic Conditions: Two-Dimensional Uranyl Borates: From Conventional to Extreme Synthetic Conditions

A systematic investigation of uranyl borates under different synthetic conditions resulted in five new 2D compounds, namely, (H 3 O)[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )], Li[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )] · (H 2 O), α-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ], β-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] and K 2.5 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 2.5 (OH) 1.5 ] · (H 2 O) 2.5 . (H 3 O)[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )] and Li[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )] · (H 2 O) were obtained from hydrothermal reactions at 220 °C using the same mineralizer. Both materials possess the uranophane sheet topology with different symmetry of the unit cells. In the structure of (H 3 O)[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )] and Li[(UO 2 )(BO 3 )] · (H 2 O), UO 7 pentagonal bipyramids share edges and vertexes with four BO 3 planar triangles. α-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] and β-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] are polytypes. α-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] was synthesized from a high-temperature solid-state reaction under ambient pressure; whereas β-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] was obtained from a high-temperature/high-pressure (HT/HP) reaction. Both structures have an identical anion topology, but β-K 4 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 4 ] crystallizes in space group with higher symmetry. In K 2.5 [(UO 2 ) 5 (BO 3 ) 2 O 2.5 (OH) 1.5 ] · (H 2 O) 2.5 , which was obtained from a hydrothermal reaction, UO 7 polyhedra share vertexes and edges with two independent BO 3 triangles, forming the most complex uranyl borate layers among all five compounds. The different synthetic routes, novel topologies, thermal behavior and Raman spectra are discussed.

Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional Tetrel-Arsenide Frameworks Templated by Li and Cs Cations

Two new ternary tetrel pnictide phases, Li 1.08 Ge 4.92 As 7 and Cs 0.11 Zn 0.05 Si 0.95 As, have been synthesized. Both compounds crystallize in new structure types, which demonstrate the flexibility of Ge(Si)–As layers when accommodating electropositive cations of various sizes. Li 1.08 Ge 4.92 As 7 displays a Ge-As layer motif that has not been observed in ternary Ge-As systems, while Cs 0.11 Zn 0.05 Si 0.95 As exhibits a 3D framework composed of fragments of the 2D parent-phase SiAs. For Li 1.08 Ge 4.92 As 7 , a combination of computational modeling and solid-state 7 Li MAS NMR was used to establish the correct crystal structure with one mixed occupied Ge/Li site. The compositions of the phases were confirmed through energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Transport properties and UV–Vis spectroscopy reveal both reported compounds to be semiconductors. Cs 0.11 Zn 0.05 Si 0.95 As shows high thermal stability with congruent melting at 1300 K and an exceptionally low thermal conductivity of 0.5 W m –1 K –1 at 300 K. Temperature-dependent Li-ion hopping dynamics in Li 1.08 Ge 4.92 As 7 was characterized using 7 Li solid-state NMR.

Cis-Divacant Octahedral Fe(II) in a Dimensionally Reduced Family of 2-(Pyridin-2-yl)pyrrolide Complexes

Four-coordinate transition metal complexes can adopt a diverse array of coordination geometries, with square planar and tetrahedral coordination being the most prevalent. Previously, we reported the synthesis of a trinuclear Fe(II) complex, Fe 3 TPM 2 , supported by a three-fold symmetric 2-pyridylpyrrolide ligand (i.e., tris(5-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methane), that featured a rare cis-divacant octahedral (CDO) geometry at each Fe(II) center. Here, a series of truncated 2-pyridylpyrrolide ligands is described that support mono- and binuclear Fe(II) complexes that also exhibit CDO geometries. Metallation of tetradentate ligand bis(5-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methane (H 2 BPM) in THF results in a binuclear complex Fe 2 (BPM) 2 (THF) 2 in which both Fe(II) ions are octahedrally coordinated. The coordinated THF solvent ligands are labile: THF dissociation leads to Fe 2 (BPM) 2 , which features five-coordinate Fe(II) ions. The Fe–Fe distance in these binuclear complexes can be elongated by ligand methylation. Metalation of bis(5-(6-methylpyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methane (H 2 BPM Me ) in THF leads to the formation of four-coordinate, CDO Fe(II) centers in Fe(BPM Me ) 2 . Further ligand truncation affords bidentate ligands 2-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)pyridine (PyrPyrrH) and 2-methyl-6-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)pyridine (Pyr Me PyrrH). Metalation of these ligands in THF affords six-coordinate complexes Fe(PyrPyrr) 2 (THF) 2 and Fe(Pyr Me Pyrr) 2 (THF) 2 . Dissociation of labile solvent ligands provides access to fourcoordinate Fe(II) complexes. Ligand disproportionation at Fe(PyrPyrr) 2 results in the formation of Fe(PyrPyrr) 3 and Fe(0). Ligand methylation suppresses this disproportionation and enables isolation of Fe(Pyr Me Pyrr) 2 , which is rigorously CDO. Complete ligand truncation, by separating the 2-pyridylpyrrolide ligands into the constituent monodentate pyridyl and pyrrolide donors, affords Fe(Pyr) 2 (Pyrr) 2 in which the Fe(II) is tetrahedrally coordinated. Computational analysis indicates that the potential energy surface that dictates the coordination geometry in this family of four-coordinate complexes is fairly flat in the vicinity of CDO coordination. Furthermore, these synthetic studies provide the structural basis to explore the implications of CDO geometry on Fe-catalyzed reactions.
