Your Role as a Program Manager in Pit Production Mission Integration (PPMI-DO)

PPMI is responsible for integrating the planning, execution, and reporting for LANL’s Pit Manufacturing efforts, surplus plutonium disposition activities, the Material Recycle and Recovery (MR&R) program, and other programs of national significance. Our programmatic sponsors rely on PPMI to capitalize on the unique capabilities and expertise in PF-4 (the only Security Cat I/Haz Cat II Pu processing facility in the Nation) and other vital facilities across the laboratory to deliver on mission critical products in support of National Security.

Geochemistry in support of LANL's national and energy security missions [Slides]

Geochemistery is a field of science that uses chemistry to explain processes occurring within geological systems. It can encompass interconnected fields of geology, hydrology, biology, and atmospheric science as they relate to natural processes in the environment. Geochemistry can play an important role in mission-critical LANL research areas of science of signatures and complex natural and engineered systems.

Exploring Gamma-Ray and Neutron Spectroscopy Missions to Mars Caves [Slides]

In this work, we investigate the sensitivity of active neutron detector systems in Mars caves using MCNP6 to model neutron transport in different cave geometries, compositions, and detectors to determine if active neutron measurements can be used to identify the hydration of cave walls vs floor vs ceilings, and to perform a concept study for potential future Mars cave missions in search of hydration and habitable regions.

A shared mission: U.S. Navy members visit Los Alamos

During the week of Veteran’s Day (Nov. 8–11), Santa Fe was full of something we don’t see a lot here in the high desert — sailors! In honor of Santa Fe Navy Week, sailors and personnel from a number of U.S. Navy vessels, commands, and other programs visited Northern New Mexico to give residents an opportunity to learn about the U.S. Navy and its importance to national security. On Nov. 8, the Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Production (ALDWP) invited a group of the U.S. Navy visitors up to Los Alamos to honor our shared mission.

A Partnership between countries that endures today. The British Mission was a part of the Lab from 1943-1945

After 27 months of grueling hours and scientific secrecy amidst the pressure of a mounting death toll and Nazi Germany's own weapons development, it had come to an end. It was time to celebrate. On September 22, 1945, scientists, engineers and their families gathered at Fuller Lodge downtown to celebrate the success of the Los Alamos atomic bomb and the end of World War II. The party was hosted by members of the British Mission and their wives and included food, dancing and a satirical play based on the lighter moments of wartime life in Los Alamos. However, this party was more than just entertainment and a night of festivities, it also represented a partnership between countries that endures today.
