Applications of Federated Learning in Semiconductor Manufacturing [Poster]

As semiconductor manufacturers explore advanced data analytics and modeling techniques and data hungry machine learning models increase in popularity due to their accuracy in solving generalized problems and ability to learn complex relationships, federated learning emerges as a privacy preserving machine learning technique for preserving data privacy and ensuring intellectual property protection. Federated Learning is a machine learning technique focused on training models using distributed data that never needs to be centrally stored, allowing the use of advanced machine learning techniques without compromising data privacy, and in the semiconductor manufacturing industry advanced machine learning techniques can reduce cost and time, but maintaining data privacy is essential to maintaining a competitive advantage. This paper systematically reviews existing literature on applications of federated learning in the semiconductor manufacturing industry with a focus on identifying common themes, algorithms, and gaps within the literature to drive future research directions. The findings reveal five key themes, including improvements in quality assurance, virtual models, privacy preservation, reliable data practices, and emerging trends and developments. By identifying key themes in literature on federated learning and semiconductor manufacturing and analyzing gaps and discussed methodologies, this study highlights several potential future research directions to expand the application of federated learning techniques in the semiconductor manufacturing domain.

Evidence-based Graph Adversary Mapping (EGRAM) [Poster]

Cybersecurity companies such as CrowdStrike, Dragos, Microsoft and Unit 42 categorize Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) using their own naming schemes. As a result, these APTs are mapped to different malware sources and campaigns, all from differing sources, leading to inconsistent mapping. Inconsistent mapping causes confusion and adds further obscurity around these groups, making it difficult to track and mitigate APT cyberattacks. The Evidence-based Graph Adversary Mapping (EGRAM) tool remediates the mapping challenge by collecting, updating and converting adversary data and their sources into a valid, codified STIX v2.1 bundle which is then stored in a Neo4j graph database. It utilizes graph traversal methods and centrality analysis to generate actionable information as a Structured Threat Intelligence Graph (STIG), based on user queries. EGRAM exists as Python code and a Jupyter Notebook that acts as a searchable, evidence-based, source of intelligence for APT groups’ artifacts and cyber campaigns.

A Multiphysics Evaluation of Annular Uranium-Zirconium Metallic Fuels [Poster]

This study examines the performance of U-10Zr annular metallic fuel rodlets which were experimentally evaluated as part of the Advanced Fuels Campaign (AFC). The AFC mission is to develop novel fuel technologies and facilitate the implementation of those technologies by industry partners. A key objective is to improve steady-state and transient performance over current fuel types. The experiments of interest in this study included annular metallic U-Zr fuel rodlets within HT-9 cladding which were placed in SS-316 capsules and inserted in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). Certain mechanical and thermal conditions cannot be directly evaluated through experiments and fuel performance modeling is used to shed light on this evolution over time. In this study, BISON Multiphysics simulations are leveraged to investigate the state of the fuel system throughout and after the experimental conditions.

Compressed Sensing Methods with Applications to Advanced Air Sampling [Poster]

Environmental sampling methods developed by the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) employ collectors with sorbent media tubes set at various locations to collect airborne emissions. Laboratory analyses of these tubes results in one-dimensional signals regarding what chemicals are being released and transported within the atmosphere. The analysis process is time consuming especially when analyzing a full year’s worth of tubes (hourly sample collection results in nearly 9,000 tubes per year). Using a signal processing method such as compressed sensing allows for recreation of the full signal while greatly reducing the number of analyzed samples required. Due to the sparsity of data retrieved from the air tubes, it is possible to use measurements a fraction of the size of the original data to gain much of the same information. This would improve the overall time and cost of analysis when modeling one-dimensional sampling signals.

Steady state radiolysis–polyhalide accumulation products [Poster]

The study of steady-state radiolysis of polyhalides is crucial as it simulates the prolonged radiation exposure that materials (e.g., alloys, molten salts) experience in reactor environments. This research provides valuable insights into the long-term effects on material properties, chemical stability, and structural integrity. It is closely linked with fundamental radiation chemistry, which aids in predicting the chemical behavior of accumulation products. Understanding the initial speciation, yield, and chemical evolution of radiolysis products is essential for managing material degradation, controlling corrosion, and ensuring reactor safety.
