Memory page access counts based on page refresh

A processing system tracks counts of accesses to memory pages using a set of counters located at the memory module that stores the pages, wherein the counts are adjusted at least in part based on refreshes of the memory pages. This approach allows a processing system to efficiently maintain the counts with relatively small counters and with relatively low overhead. Furthermore, the rate at which the counters are adjusted, relative to the page refreshes, is adjustable, so that the access counts are useful for a wide variety of application types.

System and method for monitoring atomic absorption during a surface modification process

A processing system monitors and/or controls a surface modification process occurring on a substrate within a processing chamber. An optical processing module having a light emission submodule to output a generated light signal and an optical detection submodule to detect a resultant light signal, is connected via fiber optic cables to light illuminating and light receiving components located within the chamber. A processor determines an amount of atomic absorption by an atomic element encountered by a probing beam passing between the illuminating and receiving components, based on the intensity of the generated light signal, the intensity of the received light signal and optionally the spontaneous emission of the atomic element in the absence of illumination by a probing beam. Based on the determined amount, the system derives a plurality of parameters of the modified substrate, their spatial and temporal uniformity, and information about process conditions in the processing chamber.

NDMAS System and Process Description

The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) has made a significant investment in research to develop the next generation of reactor technologies as well as to improve the performance and lengthen the life cycle of existing nuclear reactors. Data collected to demonstrate new concepts may also be used in the future to support licensing of these technologies. Provenance of these data must be preserved. The Nuclear Data Management and Analysis System (NDMAS) was established to manage and preserve data collected by fuels and materials research conducted by the high-temperature, gas-cooled reactor program. The scope of NDMAS is expanding to include other nuclear research programs that have the shared need to preserve the provenance of research data. Nuclear research funded by DOE is conducted by Idaho National Laboratory (INL), universities, other national laboratories, foreign research partners, and private companies. This research will generate a large amount of data from a variety of sources over a period of many years. Managing the data generated by the research and development projects presents a significant challenge for retaining data integrity and availability.

Leveraging Multiple Raman Excitation Wavelength Systems for Process Monitoring of Nuclear Waste Streams

Processing nuclear waste from sites such as Hanford is a significant environmental cleanup need while being a significant logistical challenge. Integration of process monitoring tools, that can provide in situ and real-time feedback about the process, can significantly alleviate needs to collect grab samples for process control and product characterization. Raman spectroscopy paired with chemometric analysis is one process monitoring tool that can provide chemical composition information on a large number of chemical targets in nuclear waste streams. However, methods to improve limits of detection as well as drop uncertainty in quantification are needed. Optimizing instrument specifications can achieve this, here this is demonstrated by comparing limits of detection for key analytes when using Raman systems with 671 nm, 532 nm, and 405 nm excitation wavelengths. Generally, limits of detection decease (allowing the measurement of lower salt concentrations) with decreasing wavelength. Similarly, data collection times and averaging were optimized. Finally, multiple chemometric modeling approaches were leveraged, including multiblock methods that combined data from all three Raman systems to simultaneously quantify targets with improved sensitivity.

Dynamic cache bypassing

A processing system fills a memory access request for data from a processor core by bypassing a cache when a write congestion condition is detected, and when transferring the data to the cache would cause eviction of a dirty cache line. The cache is bypassed by transferring the requested data to the processor core or to a different cache. Accordingly, the processing system can temporarily bypass the cache storing the dirty cache line when filling a memory access request, thereby avoiding the eviction and write back to main memory of a dirty cache line when a write congestion condition exists.

FPGA-based computing system for processing data in size, weight, and power constrained environments

Technologies that are well-suited for use in size, weight, and power (SWAP)-constrained environments are described herein. A host controller dispatches data processing instructions to hardware acceleration engines (HAEs) of one or more field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and further dispatches data transfer instructions to a memory controller, such that the HAEs perform processing operations on data stored in local memory devices of the HAEs in parallel with other data being transferred from external memory devices coupled to the FPGA(s) to the local memory devices.

High performance protonic ceramic fuel cell systems for distributed power generation

The technology landscape around distributed generation continues to evolve in response to increasing demand for high-efficiency, low-emission, low-cost power generation. While emerging distributed power technologies, such as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), continue to advance, they still face challenges due to their high capital costs, and shorter lifetimes that typically arise from electrochemical stack performance degradation at high operating temperatures (>750 °C). Recent advancements in protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) offer the potential to mitigate drawbacks of their higher temperature SOFC counterparts by enabling lower operating temperatures (550 °C–600 °C) with acceptable power densities. Here the present work leverages the recent progress in protonic ceramic cell and stack technology development to generate viable system configurations and evaluate the energetic performance potential of PCFC-based systems for stationary power generation. Process system engineering of two water-neutral system concepts, which provide 25 kW of electric power and process hot water, are presented and evaluated through sensitivity studies. Stack design parameters are altered and used to gauge the effect on system performance characteristics, including fuel cell stack and balance-of-plant sizing requirements, and electric and cogeneration efficiencies. The study finds that the potentially high per-pass fuel utilization capability of PCFC stacks could enable unprecedented electric efficiencies approaching 70% without hybridization with other prime movers.

IDAES-PSE 2.6.0 Release

The Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems (IDAES) Integrated Platform is a versatile computational environment offering extensive process systems engineering (PSE) capabilities for optimizing the design and operation of complex, interacting technologies and systems. IDAES enables users to efficiently search vast, complex design spaces to discover the lowest cost solutions while supporting the full process modeling lifecycle, from conceptual design to dynamic optimization and control. The extensible, open platform empowers users to create models of novel processes and rapidly develop custom analyses, workflows, and end-user applications. IDAES-PSE 2.6.0 Release Highlights Upcoming Changes IDAES will be switching to the new Pyomo solver interface in the next release. Whilst this will hopefully be a smooth transition for most users, there are a few important changes to be aware of. The new solver interface uses a different version of the IPOPT writer (“ipopt_v2”) and thus any custom configuration options you might have set for IPOPT will not carry over and will need to be reset. By default, the new Pyomo linear presolver will be activated with ipopt_v2. Whilst are working to identify any bugs in the presolver, it is possible that some edge cases will remain. IDAES will begin deploying a new set of scaling tools and APIs over the next few releases that make use of the new solver writers. The old scaling tools and APIs will remain for backward compatibility but will begin to be deprecated. New Models, Tools and Features New Intersphinx extension automatically linking Jupyter notebook examples to project documentation New end-to-end diagnostics example demonstrated on a real problem New complementarity formulation for VLE with cubic equations of state, backward compatibility for old formulation New solver interface with presolve (ipopt_v2) in support of upcoming changes to the initialization and APIs methods, with default set to ipopt to maintain backwards compatibility; this will deprecate once all examples have been updated New forecaster and parameterized bidder methods within grid integration library Updated surrogates API and examples to support Keras 3, with backwards compatibility for older formats such as TensorFlow SavedModel (TFSM) Updated costing base dictionary to include the 2023 cost year index value Updated ProcessBlock to include information on the constructing block class Updated Flowsheet Visualizer to allow visualize() method to return value and functions Bug Fixes Fixed bug in the Modular Property Framework that would cause errors when trying to use phase-based material balances with phase equilibria.
