Rocket engine and plane technology for flight in stratosphere - conference review
Computer programs for analysis and evaluation of payload and landing system structures for soft landing of instrument packages
Design and fabrication of full size landing impact test model of Mars legged lander configuration
The project is defined for design, development, fabrication, test, and pre-mission and mission operations of a shuttle-launched modular space station. The project management approach is described in terms of organization, management requirements, work breakdown structure, schedule, time-phased logic, implementation plans, manpower, and funding. The programmatic and technical problems are identified.

A computerized composite mapping system developed as an aid in the land use decision making process is described. Emphasis is placed on consideration of the environment in urban planning. The presence of alluvium, shallow bedrock, surface water, and vegetation growth are among the environmental factors considered. An analysis of the Shady Grove Sector planning is presented as an example of the use of computerized composite mapping for long range planning.

The ultimate objective of this project is to land men on the surface of the moon and return the men safely to earth. The objective of this document is to define the design approaches and operational techniques for transporting a three-man crew to the moon and returning them to earth.
The test results indicate that the system performs within the specifications established. The overall system appears to be well designed and built to a good commercial grade. The triple redundant time code generators, whose outputs are majority voted, performed adequately as far as could be determined on an operational situation.
All NASA management directives in force as of August 1, 1982 are listed by major subject headings showing number, effective data, title, responsible office, and distribution code. Delegations of authority in print by that date are listed numerically as well as by the installation or office to which special authority is assigned. Other consolidated lists show all management handbooks, directives applicable to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, directions published in the Code of Federal Regulations, complementary manuals, and NASA safety standards. Distribution policies and instructions for ordering directives are included.
A system of computer programs was developed to model general three dimensional surfaces. Surfaces are modeled as sets of parametric bicubic patches. There are also capabilities to transform coordinates, to compute mesh/surface intersection normals, and to format input data for a transonic potential flow analysis. A graphical display of surface models and intersection normals is available. There are additional capabilities to regulate point spacing on input curves and to compute surface/surface intersection curves. Input and output data formats are described; detailed suggestions are given for user input. Instructions for execution are given, and examples are shown.
The Earth radiation budget (ERB)MAT tapes are generated by the ERB MATGEN software using the IBM 3081 computer system operated by the Science and Applications Computer Center at Goddard Space Flight Center. All MAT's are 9-track and MAT data are in ascending time order. The gross tape format for NIMBUS year-1 and year-2 MAT's is different from the format of MAT's starting with year-3. The MATs from the first two years are to contain one day's worth of data while all other MATs are to contain multiple day's worth of data stacked onto the tapes.
The storage and processing of Earth Radiation Budget Experiment data collected by the Nimbus 7 satellite are discussed.

Features, performance objectives and applications planned for the NASA National Aerodynamics Simulator (NAS) are outlined. NAS was conceived in the 1970s as a means to performing numerical aerodynamic simulations beyond the scope of wind tunnel testing for high-speed flight. Present supercomputers cannot deal with problems exhibiting strongly coupled viscous effects, which are being increasingly more accurately represented by approximations to the full Navier-Stokes equations. Located at the NASA-Ames Center, the NAS will by 1990 comprise a distributed computer network capable of a 4 Gflop computing rate and have a memory capacity of 1 billion 64-bit words. Remote access to the system through UNIX-based microcomputers will be available through land lines and satellite links. New supercomputers will be tested on the system without disturbing ongoing work. The core machine will be a Cray-2 with a 2 Gflop rate.
If the electrodynamic measurement process is operationally described by imposing measurement color onto classical electrodynamics, self-energy infinities are eliminated and a retarded electrodynamic time arrow emerges dynamically from internal dynamic-stability conditions. This occurs because the new formalism contains nonlocal radiation fields which carry a negative parity under mathematical time reversal. This result is shown to be compatible with an extended form of T and CPT symmetry which preserves the dynamically chosen retarded electrodynamic arrow of time in the measurement color electrodynamic formalism.
