Circuit board interconnect decals

A circuit component decal comprising a transparent sheet and an opaque circuit pattern. The transparent sheet includes opposing top and bottom surfaces and a number of edges. The opaque circuit pattern includes an electronic component footprint and a number of circuit lead paths. The electronic component footprint includes a number of contact points representing the location of leads of the electronic component. The circuit lead paths extend from the contact points to the edges of the transparent sheet. The opaque circuit pattern corresponds to only a section of a complete circuit pattern and is configured to block energy from reaching a first portion of the intermediate substrate when the transparent sheet is positioned on the intermediate substrate so as to form the section of the complete circuit pattern.

Printed circuit board for integrated LED driver

A light emitting diode (LED) module may include a direct current (DC) voltage node formed on a first layer. The DC voltage node may be configured to sink a first current. One or more devices may be formed on the first layer configured to provide a second current to one or more LEDs. A device of the one or more devices may carry a steep slope voltage waveform. A local shielding area may be formed in a second layer directly below the DC voltage node and the one or more devices. The local shielding area may include a substantially continuous area of conductive material. A conductive via may extend through one or more layers. The conductive via may electrically connect the DC voltage node and the local shielding area.

Hybrid chip-on-board LED module with patterned encapsulation

Light modules and methods of forming light modules are disclosed. A light module includes a first plurality and a second plurality of light emitting elements configured to emit, respectively, a first light and a second light, and both arranged on a substrate. An encapsulation layer is disposed over the first and second plurality of the light emitting elements, and a wavelength converting element is dispersed in the encapsulation layer. A concentration of the wavelength converting element in the encapsulation layer varies, is larger over the first plurality of light emitting elements and is smaller over the second plurality of light emitting elements.

On-board separation of oxygenates from fuels

Methods for separation of oxygenates or other chemical components from fuels using chemical processes and separations including, but not limited to, onboard applications in vehicles. These separations may take place using a variety of materials and substances whereby a target material of interest is captured, held, and then released at a desired location and under desired conditions. In one set of experiments we demonstrated an enhancement in the separation of diaromatics by >38 times over gasoline and aromatics by >3.5 times over gasoline. This would give an advantage to reducing cold-start emissions, or emissions during transient conditions, in either gasoline or diesel.

Passenger Boarding Station and Curbfront Configuration Concepts for On-Demand Services with Small Automated Vehicles: Preprint

This paper explores the various configurations of off-line stations and vehicle berthing that have been found to be fundamentally important parameters in the analysis of system performance, operations, and capacity. The proposed Automated Transit Network system concept, which provides a direct ride between a passenger's origin and destination station, is applicable to both fixed guideway automated transit and to systems with self-driving vehicles. Addressed at a conceptual level are the vehicle/station interface in terms of Americans with Disability Act compliance and station capacity concerns. The concept of open-edge platforms monitored by advanced sensing technology combined with artificial intelligence-powered perception for the purpose of protecting passengers from entering the active vehicle lanes is also discussed. Finally, the paper draws initial conclusions on how these station configurations, operational complexities, and associated costs can be better understood through appropriate research and development.

Requirements for Soldering Fluxes Research using the B-53 Test Board

IPC J-STD-004B standard prescribes general requirements for the classification and testing of soldering flux for high qualify interconnections. This standard defines the classification of soldering materials through specifications of test methods and inspection criteria. The materials include liquid flux, paste flux, solderpaste flux, solder preform flux, and flux-cored solder. This research will use the proposed IPC-53 Surface Insulation Resistance (SIR) test patterns by means of an open comb (2D) and closed comb (3D to simulate a component over the comb pattern). The 2D open comb has uniformity of conductor spacing, sheet resistance, and flux outgassing. The 3D-closed comb simulates the effect of leadless or bottom-terminated components, which have non-uniform sheet resistance and flux outgassing. The response variables will include SIR testing and visual imaging. The objective is to investigate IPC test method improvements for characterizing soldering fluxes when using leadless components with narrow pad-to-pad spacing.
