2013 Metropolitan Area Planning Agency External Travel Survey

# 2013 Metropolitan Area Planning Agency External Travel Survey The 2013 Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) External Travel Survey was conducted to measure and identify travel patterns into, within, and out of the greater Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area in Nebraska. MAPA sponsored the survey in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, the Nebraska Department of Roads, and the Iowa Department of Transportation. ## Data Collection Agency MAPA conducted the survey. ## Methodology The purpose of the survey was to collect information and data needed as input for MAPA’s travel-demand model. The survey employed a combination of nine survey methods and data-collection activities, including Bluetooth technology, intercept surveys, postcard handouts, travel-time studies, vehicle classification counts, and a web-based survey. ## Survey Records Survey records include a total of 729 participants. ## Transportation Data This study provides Bluetooth records and supplementary data for 17,434 passenger trips and 3,123 commercial trips, accounting for 714,218 vehicle miles traveled. Transportation data are available as zipped files. [Download Winzip](http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm).

2003 Interstate 595 Vehicle Trip-Length Study

# 2003 Interstate 595 Vehicle Trip-Length Study The 2003 Vehicle Trip-Length Study focused on Interstate 595 between Davie Road and University Drive in Florida. Survey participants answered questions about their trip's origin and destination—including the type of location such as work, home, store, etc.—the on- and off-ramps used, how many people were in the car, and the type of vehicle. The survey also collected household demographic data such as annual household income, available vehicles, the number of people living in their household, and the number of workers in their household above the age of 16. It also asked if they would use proposed bus-only lanes or train service along the corridor, if available. ## Data Collection Agency The survey was conducted by and for the Florida Department of Transportation. ## Survey Methodology The survey was conducted via mail and online in March 2003. ## Survey Records, Data, and Documentation Survey records include 7,917 participants. Origin and destination locations include street addresses, nearest intersections or landmarks, city, state, zip code, and latitude/longitude.

Autonomie Simulation Datasets in Support of U.S. DOT-NHTSA Advanced Vehicle Technology Research

Understanding how new vehicle technologies affect fuel economy and energy use is critical to the regulatory work performed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which sets Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975. In order to support this work, Argonne National Laboratory uses Autonomie, a full-vehicle simulation tool, to evaluate advanced powertrain architectures and their effects on vehicle energy consumption and performance. A wide range of vehicle classes has been assessed (i.e., internal combustion engine vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, battery-electric vehicles, and fuel cell electric vehicles), as well as the effects of various technology improvements such as lightweighting, aerodynamic refinements, and low-rolling-resistance tires. Simulations have been run across multiple drive cycles to capture fuel and electricity use under realistic operating conditions. The resulting datasets include detailed vehicle-level results, model assumptions, and validation reports, all of which have been made publicly available through NHTSA in support of the 2023 notice of proposed rulemaking covering light-duty vehicles for model years 2027 to 2035. These data are critical to stakeholders working in fuel economy regulation, vehicle technology assessment, and energy policy analysis.

Comparison of Light-Weight Radioisotope Heater Unit (LWRHU) Historical Testing to Special Form Testing Requirements

This paper compares the Light-Weight Radioisotope Heater Unit (LWRHU) historical testing to Department of Transportation (DOT) Special Form criteria per 49 CFR Part 173, Shippers-General Requirements for Shipments and Packages, Section 469, Tests for special form Class 7 (radioactive) materials as specified in DOE-STD-1027, Hazard Categorization of DOE Nuclear Facilities. Compliance with the aforementioned criteria allows for the exclusion of radioactive sources from the facility’s nuclear material inventory. As part of a new program at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), LWRHUs are planned to be moved into TA-55, PF-5 Power Source Assembly Area (PSAA) for assembly and testing activities. The PSAA Facility is categorized as a low hazard, non-nuclear facility per DOE STD-1027 and is described in TA55-PF-5-FHC-11-001, Facility Hazard Categorization of the PSAA at PF-5, TA-55. The Facility Hazard Categorization document states, there must be documentation that radioactive sources are engineered to pass the special form testing specified by DOT in 49 CFR 173.469, Tests for special form Class 7 (radioactive) materials or ANSI N43.6, Sealed Radioactive Sources - Classification. This paper documents the extensive historical environmental safety testing of the LWRHU and demonstrates its ability to survive potential launch safety accident scenarios. The testing results are used herein to demonstrate through a comparative analysis that the robust design of the LWRHU meets or exceeds the special form testing specifications in 49 CFR 173.469, enabling the LWRHU to be transported and handled in PF-5 in support of testing and assembly program.
