Simple pulse counting circuit computes sum of squares

Pulse counting circuit with an extra chain of flip-flops, delay lines, and gates computes the sum of the squares of the pulse sequences. A pulse train and the sum of the squares of the pulses are simultaneously completed.

Simple circuit performs binary addition and subtraction

Ripple adder reduces the number of logic circuits required to preform binary addition and subtraction. The adder uses dual input and delayed output flip-flops in one register. The contents of this register are summed with those of a standard register through conventional AND/gates.

FET comparator detects analog signal levels without loading analog device

FET comparator circuit detects discrete analog computer output levels without excessively loading the output amplifier of the computer. An FET common source amplifier is coupled by a differential amplifier to a bistable transistor flip-flop. This circuit provides a digital output for analog voltages above or below a predetermined level.

Pneumatic binary encoder replaces multiple solenoid system

Pneumatic binary encoder replaces solenoid system in the pilot stage of a digital actuator. The encoder operates in flip-flop manner to valve gas at either high or low pressures. By rotating the disk in a pinion-to-encoding gear ratio, six to eight adder circuits may be operated from single encoder.

Self-correcting, synchronizing ring counter using integrated circuit devices

Three nand gate circuits are used to add error detection and reset logic circuitry for initiating and retaining the correct binary state in the flip-flop circuits of a ring counter. As the input signals are counted, the position of the specified state moves in ordered sequence around circuit loop.

Pental circuit may be used in conversionless decimal counter

Pental counter circuit, a five-stage ring of NOR gates, is used with a standard flip-flop and several AND gates to construct a decimal counter. Pental circuit eliminates the conversion circuitry which is used when binary circuits generate numeric information.

Digital telemetry system eliminates data redundancy

Floating aperature, zero-order predictor /ZOP/ circuit eliminates telemetered data redundancy by examining data from each sensor before it is multiplexed and transmitted. Digital devices to implement design are off-the-shelf items such as gates, registers and flip-flops, which are readily amenable to large-scale integration techniques.

A simplified, compact static shift register

Shift register was developed which uses only one D type flip-flop and improves packaging density by approximately 25% over the usual arrangement. Circuit is compromise between full master-slave arrangement and dynamic shift register, with limitation only of length of time that clock can be held high during new data entry.

Magnetism, dimensional changes, and magnetic transitions in hydrated cesium manganese chloride

Dimensional changes (strain) along the three principal crystal axes of the antiferromagnet CsMnCl3-2H2O are studied as a function of magnetic field and temperature in the antiferromagnetic, spin flopped, and paramagnetic phases. Changes in dimensions through the phase transitions between the magnetic states are examined. By applying the molecular field model and utilizing all available information, magnetic properties of CsMnCl3-2H2O are determined. The possible usefulness of this material in a magnetic refrigeration cycle is evaluated.

Development of chip passivated monolithic complementary MISFET circuits with beam leads

The results are presented of a program to demonstrate the processes for fabricating complementary MISFET beam-leaded circuits, which, potentially, are comparable in quality to available bipolar beam-lead chips that use silicon nitride passivation in conjunction with a platinum-titanium-gold metal system. Materials and techniques, different from the bipolar case, were used in order to be more compatible with the special requirements of fully passivated complementary MISFET devices. Two types of circuits were designed and fabricated, a D-flip-flop and a three-input NOR/NAND gate. Fifty beam-leaded chips of each type were constructed. A quality and reliability assurance program was performed to identify failure mechanisms. Sample tests and inspections (including destructive) were developed to measure the physical characteristics of the circuits.

A low power X-ray diffractometer for soil analysis in remote locations employing a multiwire proportional counter detector array.

A low power X-ray powder diffraction system suitable for remote mineralogical analysis of lunar, planetary, or asteroid soils has been designed. A one Curie Fe-55 source provides a monochromatic X-ray beam of 5.9 keV. Seeman-Bohlin focusing geometry is employed in the camera, allowing peak detection to proceed simultaneously at all angles and obviating the need for moving parts. The detector system is an array of 500-600 proportional counters with a wire-spacing of 1 mm. An electronics unit comprising preamplifier, postamplifier, window discriminators, and storage flip-flops requiring only 3.5 milliwatts has been designed and tested. Total instrument power is less than 5 W.

Feedback in sequential machine realizations.

A method is described for determining the realizability of a sequential machine with trigger or set-reset flip-flop memory elements when the feedback of the machine is given by a Boolean function. Feedbacks in several types of sequential machines with different memory elements are compared, showing the memory specifications allowing the realization of such machines.
