Lunar orbital mass spectrometer experiment

A lunar orbital mass spectrometer carried by the Apollo 16 command and service module was used to detect the lunar atmosphere and to search for active lunar volcanism. The experimental procedure and results are described.

LUNSORT list of lunar orbiter data by LAC area

Lunar orbiter (missions 1-5) photographic data are listed sequentially according to the number (1 to 147) LAC (Lunar Aeronautical Chart) areas by use of a computer program called LUNSORT. This listing, as well as a similar one from Apollo would simplify the task of identifying images of a given Lunar area. Instructions and sample case are included.

The Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) Laser Transmitter

The Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter instrument on board the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission has been in operation since it was launched in 18 June 2009. Thus far the laser transmitter system, which consists of two individual lasers, has accumulated over 1.3 Billion shots and provided an unprecedented view of the lunar surface.[ I] In this paper we present the final configuration of the space flight laser transmitter as delivered to the LOLA instrument along with some in-space operation performance data.

Telescope in lunar orbit

The use of a large telescope in high lunar orbit 4000 km above the Moon's equator is proposed. It is recognized that the Hubble Space Telescope (ST), will provide the necessary capabilities if it can be transferred to lunar orbit. The Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV), will be able to scan the lunar surface, locate small outcrops of minerals important to base development, support early base operations and undertake detailed geophysical exploration of the whole lunar surface.
