AXIOM Unfold 0.7.0, Users Manual

The AXIOM-Unfold application is a computational code for performing spectral unfolds along with uncertainty quantification of the photon spectrum. While this code was principally designed for spectral unfolds on the Saturn source, it is also relevant to other radiation sources such as Pithon. This code is a component of the AXIOM project which was undertaken in order to measure the time-resolved spectrum of the Saturn source; to support this, the AXIOM-Unfold code is able to process time-dependent dose measurements in order to obtain a time-resolved spectrum. This manual contains a full description of the algorithms used by the method. The code features are fully documented along with several worked examples.

FECM/NETL CO 2 Transport Cost Model (2022): Description and User’s Manual

The FECM/NETL CO 2 Transport Cost Model (CO 2 _T_COM) is an Excel spreadsheet model that calculates the cost of transporting CO 2 from the beginning to the end of a pipeline. This document provides two main functions. First, the document describes the equations and algorithms that are used by the model to calculate technical quantities (such as the minimum inner pipe diameter needed to transport a user-specified CO 2 mass flow rate a specified distance) and engineering-economic quantities (such as capital costs, operating costs and cash flows). Second, the document is a user’s manual for the model that describes the procedures the user must follow to run the model. The document also describes input variables and output variables (i.e., results) for the model.

Dakota, A Multilevel Parallel Object-Oriented Framework for Design Optimization, Parameter Estimation, Uncertainty Quantification, and Sensitivity Analysis (V.6.16 User's Manual)

The Dakota toolkit provides a flexible and extensible interface between simulation codes and iterative analysis methods. Dakota contains algorithms for optimization with gradient and nongradient-based methods; uncertainty quantification with sampling, reliability, and stochastic expansion methods; parameter estimation with nonlinear least squares methods; and sensitivity/variance analysis with design of experiments and parameter study methods. These capabilities may be used on their own or as components within advanced strategies such as surrogate-based optimization, mixed integer nonlinear programming, or optimization under uncertainty. By employing object-oriented design to implement abstractions of the key components required for iterative systems analyses, the Dakota toolkit provides a flexible and extensible problem-solving environment for design and performance analysis of computational models on high performance computers. This report serves as a user's manual for the Dakota software and provides capability overviews and procedures for software execution, as well as a variety of example studies.

Charon User Manual: v. 2.2 (revision1)

This manual gives usage information for the Charon semiconductor device simulator. Charon was developed to meet the modeling needs of Sandia National Laboratories and to improve on the capabilities of the commercial TCAD simulators; in particular, the additional capabilities are running very large simulations on parallel computers and modeling displacement damage and other radiation effects in significant detail. The parallel capabilities are based around the MPI interface which allows the code to be ported to a large number of parallel systems, including linux clusters and proprietary “big iron” systems found at the national laboratories and in large industrial settings.

1MV Febetron Pulse Generator Operator's Manual

The Febetron Pulse Generator (FPG) is an experimental assembly used to store electrical energy for a period of time and then release that energy over a short duration pulse to achieve high instantaneous power outputs. The FPG is an ideal device to be used for a variety high energy physics experiments. For mobility and ease of repeatable operation, the FPG is secured on a rolling test fixture and paired with a diagnostic and controls rack. The combination of the FPG, test fixture cart, SF6 gas cart, and controls rack is identified as the Pulse Generator Testing Assembly (PGTA). This document outlines all necessary information regarding the working principles, assembly/disassembly, maintenance, operation, uses, hazards, and experimental procedures of the 1 Mega Volt (MV) PGTA. This document, in addition to the manufacturer’s manuals, should be utilized as a reference whenever working with the PGTA and any of its components.

GREET-Based Interactive Life-Cycle Assessment of Biofuel Pathways: User Manual

An interactive, web-based tool was developed to streamline the process design for biofuel pathways that the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is developing. The tool utilizes the latest life-cycle analysis (LCA) data in the Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies (GREET) model developed by Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne National Laboratory, 2021). It provides techno-economic analysis (TEA) modelers with a interative interface that generates real-time LCA results based on life-cycle inventory (LCI) data and generates useful insights into key emissions drivers. Economic implications of the LCA results are also included in the tool. Overall, the tool aims to assist TEA researchers with the development of economically viable and environmentally beneficial biofuel technologies. This manual introduces the interface and analysis capabilities of the tool.

PETSc/TAO Users Manual (Rev. 3.19)

This manual describes the use of the Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation (PETSc) and the Toolkit for Advanced Optimization (TAO) for the numerical solution of partial differential equations and related problems on high-performance computers. PETSc/TAO is a suite of data structures and routines that provide the building blocks for the implementation of large-scale application codes on parallel (and serial) computers. PETSc uses the MPI standard for all distributed memory communication. PETSc/TAO includes a large suite of parallel linear solvers, nonlinear solvers, time integrators, and opti mization that may be used in application codes written in Fortran, C, C++, and Python (via petsc4py; see Getting Started). PETSc provides many of the mechanisms needed within parallel application codes, such as parallel matrix and vector assembly routines. The library is organized hierarchically, enabling users to employ the level of abstraction that is most appropriate for a particular problem. By using techniques of object-oriented programming, PETSc provides enormous flexibility for users. PETSc is a sophisticated set of software tools; as such, for some users it initially has a much steeper learning curve than packages such as MATLAB or a simple subroutine library. In particular, for individuals without some computer science background, experience programming in C, C++, python, or Fortran and experience using a debugger such as gdb or lldb, it may require a significant amount of time to take full advantage of the features that enable efficient software use. However, the power of the PETSc design and the algorithms it incorporates may make the efficient implementation of many application codes simpler than “rolling them” yourself. For many tasks a package such as MATLAB is often the best tool; PETSc is not intended for the classes of problems for which effective MATLAB code can be written. There are several packages, built on PETSc, that may satisfy your needs without requiring directly using PETSc. We recommend reviewing these packages functionality before starting to code directly with PETSc. PETSc can be used to provide a “MPI parallel linear solver” in an otherwise sequential, or OpenMP parallel code. This approach cannot provide extremely large improvements in the application time by utilizing large numbers of MPI processes but can still improve the performance. Certainly all parts of a previously sequential code need not be parallelized but the matrix generation portion must be parallelized to expect true scalability to large numbers of MPI processes. See PCMPI for details on how to utilize the PETSc MPI linear solver server. Since PETSc is under continued development, small changes in usage and calling sequences of routines will occur. PETSc has been supported for twenty-five years; see mailing list information on our website for information on contacting support.
