SCALE Procedure for Verified, Archived, Library of Inputs and Data (VALID)

This procedure provides a framework for preparing, reviewing, and storing model inputs and derived data so that individuals with authorized access to the Verified, Archived, Library of Inputs and Data (VALID) repository can use the inputs and data with confidence in their analyses. This procedure uses documented checks and reviews to ensure that the inputs and data were correctly generated using appropriate references. Configuration management is implemented to prevent inadvertent modification of the inputs and data or inclusion of models that have not been reviewed. This procedure also provides guidance to be followed if errors are identified or if input or data revisions are needed.

COG User's Manual: A Multiparticle Monte Carlo Transport Code (Sixth Edition)

COG is a high-resolution code for the Monte Carlo simulation of coupled particle transport in arbitrary 3-D geometry. COG will transport neutrons, protons, deuterons, alpha particles with energies up to hundreds of GeV, and photons with energy ranges limited by the available cross section sets and physics models. Electrons can be transported via the EGS5 electron transport kernel, electrons can also be transported. The COG code is a significant upgrade from earlier Monte Carlo transport codes and has been written specifically to make it more versatile, accurate, and easy to use. COG has provisions for calculating deep penetration (shielding) problems, criticality problems, and neutron activation problems while retains all of the standard capabilities found in other Monte Carlo transport codes. COG uses high-resolution pointwise cross-section databases and makes no compromises in the transport physics, so that the results of a COG run are limited only by the accuracy of the databases used. COG runs primarily on Linux Operating System workstations with MPICH software installed – currently, Red Hat 7 & 8, Windows 10 (Windows Subsystem for Linux –WSL), Ubuntu 16, 18 & 20, OpenSUSE Leap 15.2, Fedora 32, Apple Power Mac with Intel CPU (with MacPorts installed) workstations, and LLNL LC supercomputer CTS-1 cluster with TOSS 3 are supported.

Evaluations for Nuclear Criticality Safety Program 12 C, 139 La, minor actinides, 235 U [Slides]

For light nuclei, preliminary work extends the evaluation from 6.5 MeV to ~ 10 MeV. For 139 La, the team delivered full evaluation in fast region to ORNL, including covariances. For sup>235 U, RPI data simulations, the team performed simulations and showed some improvement for neutrons below 5 MeV. Some of the changes needed for more improvement might not be supported by the current format. Some of the changes above 12 MeV to account for the angular distribution of preequilibrium neutrons require a change in the PFNS evaluation procedure.

Shielding Benchmark Comparison - MCNP6.2

This report documents the calculations performed for a shielding code comparison between various Department of Energy (DOE) sites. These shielding calculations were performed using an experiment drawn from the International Handbook of Evaluated Criticality Safety Benchmark Experiments, published by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development/Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD/NEA). The benchmark selected for comparison is ALARM-CF-AIR-LAB-001 (“Neutron Fields in the Three-Section Concrete Labyrinth from Cf-252 Source, Benchmark ALARM CF AIR LAB-001”). The Y-12 submission for this code comparison was performed with Monte Carlo N Particle (MCNP) Transport Code System, Version 6.2 and Automated Variance Reduction Generator (ADVANTG).
