Measurements of Beam Spin Asymmetries in p+p0 and p´p0 Dihadron Production at CLAS12

Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) is a powerful experimental tool for studying the internal structure and dynamics of the proton, revealing how quarks and gluons are distributed and interact within it. SIDIS describes a process where an elec tron scatters off one of the constituent quarks within the proton, causing it to undergo hadronization, creating multiple hadrons in the final state. Through factorization, the full process can be split into probabilistic components: one which describes the internal structure of the proton using Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs), and another which describes the hadronization process using Fragmentation Functions (FFs). These functions are non-perturbative quantities of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), meaning they cannot be calculated directly from first principles and must instead be extracted from experimental measurements. Acommon approach for accessing PDFs and FFs using SIDIS is to measure asymmetries. In this context, asymmetries correspond to subtle differences in the angular distribution of outgoing particles that arise when the spin orientation of the incoming beam or target is reversed. Because many of these effects only appear when spin is involved, they isolate specific, nuanced properties of the proton’s spin-structure that are otherwise hidden in spin averaged measurements. In practice, they show up as specific azimuthal modulations (e.g., sin ¿R, sin(¿h ´ ¿R)), whose amplitudes isolate convolutions of PDFs and FFs at leading and subleading twist. Non-zero asymmetries of these angular distributions can be traced back to unique combinations of PDFs and FFs, offering a way to probe them directly. In this work, we measure SIDIS by analyzing high energy electron-proton scattering events using the CLAS12 detector at Jefferson Lab. This study focuses on subset of SIDIS referred to as dihadron SIDIS, where pairs of hadrons — here p+p0 and p´p0 — are observed. We analyzed these dihadrons using detector data collected during Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, where longitudinally polarized electrons from the CEBAF accelerator were incident on a liquid hydrogen target. A photon classifier using a Gradient Boosted Trees (GBTs) architecture was trained using Monte Carlo simulations to reduce the amount of iv false combinatorial background p0’s. When deployed on experimental data, the model in creases our dihadron statistics by up to five-fold compared to previous CLAS12 p0 analyses. This work reports the first measurements of beam spin asymmetries for p+p0 and p´p0 dihadron production in SIDIS. The measured asymmetries offer new insights to the spin-dependent structure and dynamics within the proton, as well as the spin-dependent properties of quark fragmentation. Non-zero twist-3 sin¿R amplitudes are observed, pro viding sensitivity to the subleading twist PDF e(x). The PDF e(x) encodes quark-gluon correlations within the proton — a property that is otherwise inaccessible at leading twist. Additionally, this work measured significant twist-2 modulations carried by sin(¿h ´ ¿R) and sin(2¿h ´2¿R), providing experimental access to the helicity dihadron fragmentation function (DiFF) GK 1 . Because there is no equivalent quark helicity-dependent FF in single pion SIDIS, the DiFF GK 1 offers a unique lens into novel spin-dependent fragmentation. For instance, the twist-2 modulations observed in this study are enhanced by vector mesons created during fragmentation — a behavior predicted by phenomenological models. This study broadens our understanding of dihadron fragmentation, revealing new details about the flavor and charge dependence of hadronization.

Factorized QED and QCD contribution to deeply inelastic scattering

We present the first calculation of next-to-leading order (NLO) factorized QED and QCD contributions to the short-distance hard coefficients of inclusive lepton-hadron deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in a joint QED and QCD factorization approach. Unlike the traditional radiative correction approach to handle the collision-induced QED contributions to DIS, QED radiation from all charged leptons and quarks are treated equally, and their collinear sensitivities are systematically factorized into corresponding universal lepton and parton distribution functions. We demonstrate that the NLO factorized short-distance QED contribution is completely infrared safe and calculable without the need of any parameters other than the standard factorization scale in the same way as the factorized short-distance QCD contribution. We discuss the potential impact of this joint factorization approach on the extraction of partonic information from lepton-hadron DIS.

Timelike Compton Scattering from a longitudinally polarised target with CLAS12 at Jefferson Lab

Explorations into the internal dynamics of hadrons are constantly evolving, and the requirement for experimental results to verify theoretical models of hadron structure is paramount. A key area in this field is the study of Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs), which are functions used to model the momenta of quarks and gluons within hadrons, and the methods to access GPDs experimentally. One such scattering process that allows access to these is Timelike Compton Scattering. TCS complements existing Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering experiments and allows investigation into the universality of GPDs through access to the real and imaginary parts of the parton helicity independent GPD Hq via beam spin asymmetries (BSA), and it provides novel access to the real and imaginary parts of the parton helicity dependent GPD ˜Hq through target polarisation asymmetries (TSA). This thesis work presents a comparative study with the first published BSA for TCS at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab), alongside a first time extraction of a Target Spin Asymmetry with the Summer 2022 data taking run. JLab hosts the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) which provides a 12 GeV electron beam to four experimental halls. Hall-B contains the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer, which took data across three run periods on a longitudinally polarised NH3 and ND3 fixed target from 2022-2023, to extract measurements of electron-proton scattering, from which a TCS signal could be extracted. The thesis discusses work done to understand and eliminate contributions from the non-/low-polarised nuclear background, testing pre-established cuts to eliminate pion background from a dilepton (e+e-) final state and modifying them as needed for the new experimental run, and attempts to hone in on a clean TCS signal from which to extract the two asymmetry observables. A comparison with existing BSA results was performed; however, the statistical errors are too large to draw a significant conclusion as to whether there is agreement across each bin. More data is needed for a multidimensionally binned extraction. A proof of principle was achieved in the TSA measurements, with two out of four kinematic bins showing preliminary agreement in shape with theoretical values. Again, the errors are significant due to the contributions from the nuclear background. To support these conclusions, a further study was done, which takes into account an estimate of the asymmetries with the full available dataset (this thesis is based only on data taken in the summer set; at the time of writing processing was still being conducted for the final two datasets), as well as an estimate including additional future experiment days that were awarded in July 2024. Additional work was done on a secondary project exploring the feasibility of measuring TCS at the upcoming Electron Ion Collider, supporting the design proposal for the detector for the first interaction region and giving a positive outlook for the future of these types of measurements beyond JLab.

Nuclear suppression of coherent J / ψ photoproduction in heavy-ion ultraperipheral collisions and leading twist nuclear shadowing

We determine the nuclear suppression factor S Pb ( x ) , where x = M J / ψ 2 / W γ p 2 with M J / ψ the J / ψ mass and W γ p the photon-nucleon energy, for the cross section of coherent J / ψ photoproduction in heavy-ion ultraperipheral collisions at the Large Hadron Collider and Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider by performing the χ 2 fit to all available data on the cross section d σ A A → J / ψ A A / d y as a function of the J / ψ rapidity y and the photoproduction cross section σ γ A → J / ψ A ( W γ p ) as a function of W γ p . We find that while the d σ A A → J / ψ A A / d y data alone constrain S Pb ( x ) for x ≥ 10 − 3 , the combined d σ A A → J / ψ A A / d y and σ γ A → J / ψ A ( W γ p ) data allow us to determine S Pb ( x ) in the wide interval 10 − 5 < x < 0.05 . In particular, the data favor S Pb ( x ) , which decreases with a decrease of x in the 10 − 4 < x < 0.01 interval and can be both decreasing or constant for x < 10 − 4 . Identifying S Pb ( x ) with the ratio of the gluon distributions in Pb and the proton R g ( x , Q 0 2 ) = g A ( x , Q 0 2 ) / [ A g p ( x , Q 0 2 ) ] , we demonstrate that the leading twist approximation for nuclear shadowing provides a good description of all the data on d σ A A → J / ψ A A / d y and σ γ A → J / ψ A ( W γ p ) as well as on the experimental values for S Pb ( x ) derived from σ γ A → J / ψ A ( W γ p ) . We also show that modern nuclear parton distributions reasonably reproduce S Pb ( x ) as well. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Final state radiation from high and ultrahigh energy neutrino interactions

Charged leptons produced by high-energy and ultrahigh-energy neutrinos have a substantial probability of emitting prompt internal bremsstrahlung ν ℓ + N → ℓ + X + γ . This can have important consequences for neutrino detection. We discuss observable consequences at high- and ultrahigh-energy neutrino telescopes and the Large Hadron Collider’s (LHC’s) Forward Physics Facility. Logarithmic enhancements can be substantial (e.g., ∼ 20 % ) when either the charged lepton’s energy or the rest of the cascade is measured. We comment on final state radiation’s impacts on measuring the inelasticity distribution, ν / ν ¯ flux ratio, throughgoing muons, and double-bang signatures for high-energy neutrino observation. Furthermore, for ultrahigh-energy neutrino observation, we find that final state radiation increases the overall detectable energy by as much as 20%, affects flavor measurements, and decreases the energy of both Earth-emergent tau leptons and regenerated tau neutrinos. Many of these have significant impacts on measuring neutrino fluxes and spectra. Finally, for the LHC’s Forward Physics Facility, we find that final state radiation will impact future extractions of strange quark parton distribution functions. Final state radiation should be included in future analyses at neutrino telescopes and the Forward Physics Facility. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Transverse single-spin asymmetries in $γ$ SIDIS as a direct probe of quark-gluon-quark longitudinal momentum structure

Transverse single-spin asymmetries in the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic production of isolated photons ($\gamma$SIDIS), $A_{UT}^{\gamma {\rm SIDIS}}$, provide an unprecedented opportunity to extract the quark-gluon-quark correlators $F_{FT}(x,x')$ and $G_{FT}(x,x')$ point-by-point in their full support $x,x'$. We utilize realistic models for these functions, based on input from the Sivers transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function and imposing constraints from the $d_2$ matrix element calculated in lattice QCD, in order to provide numerical estimates for $A_{UT}^{\gamma {\rm SIDIS}}$ at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). We thoroughly explore the EIC phase space in order to isolate in which regions the asymmetry can be sizable, finding it can be as much as $10\%$ or larger for certain kinematics. Given that $F_{FT}(x,x')$ and $G_{FT}(x,x')$ are basically unknown, $A_{UT}^{\gamma {\rm SIDIS}}$ will be an important future measurement to learn about multi-parton correlations in the nucleon.

Measurement of the double-differential inclusive jet cross section in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV

The inclusive jet cross section is measured as a function of jet transverse momentum pT and rapidity y. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 pb −1 . The jets are reconstructed with the anti-k T algorithm using a distance parameter of R = 0.4, within the rapidity interval |y| < 2, and across the kinematic range 0.06 < p T < 1 TeV. The jet cross section is unfolded from detector to particle level using the determined jet response and resolution. The results are compared to predictions of perturbative quantum chromodynamics, calculated at both next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order. The predictions are corrected for nonperturbative effects, and presented for a variety of parton distribution functions and choices of the renormalization/factorization scales and the strong coupling α S .

Testing the neutrino content of the muon at muon colliders

Collinear emission of W bosons off a high-energy muon induces a large muon-neutrino component among the Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) of a muon. In this paper we study the phenomenology related to the ν$_{μ}$ PDF at future high-energy muon colliders. We examine total rates and differential distributions of the $ e{\overline{\nu}}_e $ and Wγ production processes, which receive a large, and often dominant, contribution from this PDF, allowing for a detailed experimental study. As a demonstration of the impact the ν$_{μ}$ PDF could have for searches of new physics, we study the charged-current pair production of a couple of heavy states, components of a SU(2)$_{L}$ doublet. In both $ e{\overline{\nu}}_e $ production and charged-current pair production of heavy states, we compare results obtained using PDFs with those of a fixed-order simulation.

Measurement of t -channel production of single top quarks and antiquarks in pp collisions at 13 TeV using the full ATLAS Run 2 data sample

The production of single top quarks and top antiquarks via the t-channel exchange of a virtual W boson is measured in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC using 140 fb -1 of ATLAS data. The total cross-sections are determined to be σ(tq) = 137$^{+8}_{-8}$ pb and σ($\bar{t}q$) = 84$^{+6}_{-5}$ pb for top-quark and top-antiquark production, respectively. The combined cross-section is found to be σ(tq + $\bar{t}q$) = 221$^{+13}_{-13}$ pb and the cross-section ratio is R t = σ(tq) / σ($\bar{t}q$) = 1.636$^{+0.036}_{-0.034}$. The predictions at next-to-next-to-leading-order in quantum chromodynamics are in good agreement with these measurements. The predicted value of R t using different sets of parton distribution functions is compared with the measured value, demonstrating the potential to further constrain the functions when using this result in global fits. The measured cross-sections are interpreted in an effective field theory approach, setting limits at the 95% confidence level on the strength of a four-quark operator and an operator coupling the third quark generation to the Higgs boson doublet: -0.37 < C$^{3,1}_{Qq}$ /Λ 2 < 0.06 and -0.87 < C$^{3}_{ΦQ}$ / Λ 2 < 1.42. The constraint |V tb | > 0.95 at the 95% confdence level is derived from the measured value of σ(tq + $\bar{t}q$), assuming that the Wtb interaction is a left-handed weak coupling and that |V tb | $\gg$ |V td |, |V ts |. In a more general approach, pairs of CKM matrix elements involving top quarks are simultaneously constrained, leading to confdence contours in the corresponding two-dimensional parameter spaces.

Suppression of diffraction in deep-inelastic scattering on nuclei and dynamical mechanism of leading twist nuclear shadowing

Abstract Using the leading twist approach (LTA) to nuclear shadowing, we calculate the ratios of diffractive and usual parton distributions for a heavy nucleus (Pb) and the proton,$$ {R}_{A/p}=\left({f}_{i/A}^{D(3)}/{f}_{i/A}\right)/\left({f}_{i/p}^{D(3)}/{f}_{i/p}\right) $$ R A / p = f i / A D 3 / f i / A / f i / p D 3 / f i / p , for coherent and summed (coherent plus quasi-elastic) nuclear deep-inelastic scattering. We find thatR A/p ≈ 0.5 − 1 for quarks as well as for the ratio of the diffractive and total cross sections$$ {\left[\left({d\sigma}_{\textrm{diff}}/{d M}_X^2\right)/{\sigma}_{\textrm{tot}}\right]}_{eA}/{\left[\left({d\sigma}_{\textrm{diff}}/{d M}_X^2\right)/{\sigma}_{\textrm{tot}}\right]}_{ep} $$ dσ diff / dM X 2 / σ tot eA / dσ diff / dM X 2 / σ tot ep andR A/p ≈ 0.5 − 1.3 for gluons in a broad range ofx, including the kinematics of the Electron-Ion Collider, which reaffirms the difference from the nuclear enhancement ofR A/p predicted in the gluon saturation framework. We demonstrate that the magnitude ofR A/p is controlled by the cross section of the interaction of hadronic fluctuations of the virtual photon with target nucleons, which explains an enhancement ofR A/p in the color dipole model and its suppression in LTA. We argue that the black disk limit corresponds toR A/p = 1 and$$ {R}_{A/p}^{\textrm{coh}} $$ R A / p coh = 0.86 for the summed and coherent scattering, respectively. Relying on an intuitive definition of the saturation scale, we show that the ratio of the saturation scales of a heavy nucleus and proton$$ {Q}_{sA}^2(b)/{Q}_{sp}^2(b)\approx 1 $$ Q sA 2 b / Q sp 2 b ≈ 1 at small impact parametersbdue to the strong leading twist nuclear shadowing and diluteness of the nuclear density.

Anisotropic jet broadening and jet shape

In this paper, we explore the use of jet substructure as a way of probing phenomena which break the isotropic behavior of jets, such as jet propagation through an anisotropically flowing quark-gluon plasma or spin correlations. We introduce two novel observables for this purpose: the azimuthal-dependent jet broadening and the azimuthal-dependent jet shape, which generalize the traditional isotropic substructure studies. Using Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, we explicitly calculate the jet functions associated with these observables with a standard jet axis and with a Winner-Take-All jet axis in both the resummed and fixed order limits. While our analysis first and foremost establishes the formalism for the azimuthal-dependent jet substructure, it also brings to light new results for jet substructure in the azimuthally integrated case, such as the semi-inclusive jet function and the exclusive jet shape for the Winner-Take-All axis, and the jet broadening in the fixed order region. As an illustrative example for the new formalism we demonstrate that the azimuthal-dependent jet broadening can be used as a direct probe of the transversity parton distribution function in deep inelastic scattering.

Light neutral-meson production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{\text{s}}$ = 13 TeV

The momentum-differential invariant cross sections of π 0 and η mesons are reported for pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at midrapidity (|y| < 0.8). The measurement is performed in a broad transverse-momentum range of 0.2 < p T < 200 GeV/c and 0.4 < p T < 60 GeV/c for the π 0 and η, respectively, extending the p T coverage of previous measurements. Transverse-mass-scaling violation of up to 60% at low transverse momentum has been observed, agreeing with measurements at lower collision energies. Transverse Bjorken x (x T ) scaling of the π 0 cross sections at LHC energies is fulfilled with a power-law exponent of n = 5.01 ± 0.05, consistent with values obtained for charged pions at similar collision energies. The data are compared to predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations, where the π 0 spectrum is best described using the CT18 parton distribution function and the NNFF1.0 or BDSS fragmentation function. Expectations from PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC overestimate the spectrum for the π 0 and are not able to describe the shape and magnitude of the η spectrum. The charged-particle multiplicity dependent π 0 and η p T spectra show the expected change of the spectral shape, characterized by a flatter slope with increasing multiplicity. This is demonstrated across a broad transverse-momentum range and up to events with a charged-particle multiplicity exceeding five times the mean value in minimum bias collisions. The η/π 0 ratio depends on the charged-particle multiplicity for p T < 4 GeV/c. PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC qualitatively explain this behavior with an increasing contribution from the feed-down of heavier particles to the π 0 spectrum.

Measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.36$ TeV

The inclusive cross section for top quark pair ($\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}$) production in lead-lead (PbPb) collisions is reported for the first time at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.36 TeV. The analysis uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.58 nb −1 collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in 2023. The $\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}$ production cross section, ${\sigma}_{\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}}={3.42}_{-0.51}^{+0.54}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-0.43}^{+0.50}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)$ μb, is measured in dilepton final states using a fit to a multivariate discriminator that combines the decay electron and muon kinematic properties with the multiplicity of bottom quark jets. The result is consistent with perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy employing several nuclear parton distribution functions. In addition, the Drell–Yan production cross section (σ DY ) for dilepton masses above 10 GeV and the ratio of $\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}$ to DY cross sections $\left({R}_{\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}/\mathrm{DY}}\right)$ are found to be compatible with the NNLO predictions. The observables ${\sigma}_{\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}}$, σ DY , and ${R}_{\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}/\mathrm{DY}}$ are measured separately for central and semicentral PbPb collisions to investigate for the first time the dependence of top quark production on the collision impact parameter.

Twist analysis of the spin-orbit correlation in QCD

We present a QCD analysis of the twist-three parton distribution functions associated with the spin-orbit correlation of quarks and gluons in spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ and spin-0 hadrons. We derive exact non-perturbative identities decomposing the spin-orbit correlations into the Wandzura-Wilczek part and the genuine twist-three part. In the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ case, the result is partially related to the kinematical twist-three part of the g T (x) distribution familiar in the context of transverse spin physics. We use these identities to obtain a novel longitudinal momentum sum rule which may be regarded as the momentum version of the Jaffe-Manohar spin sum rule. We explore the physical interpretation of the sum rule and make a connection to the color Lorentz forces and their associated potential energies.

Observation of $t\overline{t}$ production in the lepton+jets and dilepton channels in p+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}$ = 8.16 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This paper reports the observation of top-quark pair production in proton-lead collisions in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is performed using 165 nb -1 of p+Pb data collected at $\sqrt{^sNN}$ = 8.16 TeV in 2016. Events are categorised in two analysis channels, consisting of either events with exactly one lepton (electron or muon) and at least four jets, or events with two opposite-charge leptons and at least two jets. In both channels at least one b-tagged jet is also required. Top-quark pair production is observed with a significance over five standard deviations in each channel. The top-quark pair production cross-section is measured to be σ $t\overline{t}$ =58.1 ± 2.0(stat.)$^{+4.8}_{-4.4}$(syst.) nb, with a total uncertainty of 9%. In addition, the nuclear modification factor is measured to be R pA = 1.090 ± 0.039(stat.)$^{+0.094}_{-0.087}$(syst.). The measurements are found to be in good agreement with theory predictions involving nuclear parton distribution functions.

Measurement of beauty production via non-prompt charm hadrons in p–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The production cross sections of D 0 , D + , and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ hadrons originating from beauty-hadron decays (i.e. non-prompt) were measured for the first time at midrapidity in proton–lead (p–Pb) collisions at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Nuclear modification factors (R pPb ) of non-prompt D 0 , D + , and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ are calculated as a function of the transverse momentum (p T ) to investigate the modification of the momentum spectra measured in p–Pb collisions with respect to those measured in proton–proton (pp) collisions at the same energy. The R pPb measurements are compatible with unity and with the measurements in the prompt charm sector, and do not show a significant p T dependence. The p T -integrated cross sections and p T -integrated R pPb of non-prompt D 0 and D + mesons are also computed by extrapolating the visible cross sections down to p T = 0. The non-prompt D-meson R pPb integrated over p T is compatible with unity and with model calculations implementing modification of the parton distribution functions of nucleons bound in nuclei with respect to free nucleons. The non-prompt Λ$^{+}_{c}$/D 0 and D + /D 0 production ratios are computed to investigate hadronisation mechanisms of beauty quarks into mesons and baryons. The measured ratios as a function of p T display a similar trend to that measured for charm hadrons in the same collision system.

Effective field theory factorization for diffraction

We derive a factorization formula for coherent and incoherent ep diffraction using the soft collinear effective theory, utilizing multiple power expansion parameters to handle different kinematic regions. This goes beyond the known hard-collinear diffractive factorization to address the small-x Regge dynamics and Pomeron exchange from first principles. The effective field theory analysis also uncovers and factorizes an important irreducible incoherent background generated by color-nonsinglet exchange, dubbed “quasi-diffraction”, for which we calculate the associated Sudakov suppression. For unpolarized scattering we show that there are four diffractive structure functions at leading power, and point out the importance of studying ${F}_{3,4}^D$ through asymmetries, in addition to ${F}_{2,L}^D$. For the quasi-diffractive background, we make model independent predictions for ratios of the corresponding structure functions in a perturbative kinematic region. Our analysis also makes predictions for six leading-power spin-dependent structure functions. Finally, we provide connections to diffractive parton distributions, and assess the Ingelman-Schlein model. Our work lays a path for further QCD-based studies of diffraction.

We obtain explicit expressions for the electron-in-electron, positron-in-electron, photon-in-electron, electron-in-photon, and photon-in-photon distributions at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). Cross-checks against one-loop results, existing two-loop calculations, and a recent soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) analysis of the electron structure functions are presented.
