Five contemporary technologies are discussed in the context of their potential roles in particle tracking for future high energy physics applications. These include sensors of the 3D configuration, in both diamond and silicon, submicron-dimension pixels, thin film detectors, and scintillating quantum dots in gallium arsenide. Drivers of the technologies include radiation hardness, excellent position, vertex, and timing resolution, simplified integration, and optimized power, cost, and material.

This report presents the results from code-to-code comparisons for a prismatic modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor 350-MW design for steady-state neutron transport calculations. Integral parameters as well as power and flux distributions are provided. Differences between solutions from diffusion and transport operators are analysed. Effects of control rod homogenization between full block and one sixth block are discussed.
Distributed wind is unique and fast-growing component of the energy production mix, but cybersecurity for distributed wind is not well developed. In this presentation, we will introduce distributed wind as an example of difficult-to-secure critical infrastructure. We will first provide background on distributed wind architectures, applications, and stakeholder roles. We will explain the need and challenges for cybersecurity for distributed wind, pointing to both academic studies and real-world events. The key component of the presentation will discuss recommendations for different aspects of security, such as risk assessments, communications, and access control, that specifically call out considerations that apply uniquely to distributed wind. We will discuss what sets distributed wind apart from other ICS and energy applications, and how to account for these features in a comprehensive security plan. This process is demonstrative of the type of analysis needed to adapt traditional security guidelines and standards to narrow and focused applications.

In April 2022, a team sponsored by the US DOE Office of Nuclear Verification (ONV) shipped trepanning equipment to the nuclear power station at Trawsfynydd, Wales, UK to collect samples from the graphite moderator of Reactor 1. The sampling campaign to collect 48 graphite samples was completed in five weeks beginning July 11. Half the samples will be analyzed in the US to determine the total energy production of the facility. The other half will be analyzed by Magnox Ltd. to support decisions for options for the ultimate decommissioning path for the facility. This paper provides a description of the equipment and the operations required to trepan, collect, and package the samples while controlling the small amounts of radioactive graphite dust entrained on and within the tool. The most important sample parameter needed is the precise location of the sample, to within ±6 mm in a fuel channel, while the tool is deployed to between 12 and 20 meters below the operations floor; our means of achieving this precision is given.

The 2022 Hunga eruption was a global event recorded by all three Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) International Monitoring System (IMS) geophysical waveform sensor technologies: seismic, infrasound, and hydroacoustic. Large volcanic eruptions are rare and additionally present an opportunity to test seismoacoustic detection, location, and identification methods for nuclear explosion monitoring.
