INVESTIGATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CHROMIUM, CHROMIUMRHENIUM, AND DERIVED ALLOYS

Tensile tests of iodide chromium have been carried out over the range 0 C to 400 C. The peaks which have been detected in the variation of yield stress with temperature are quite small and difficult to locate exactly. However, by dint of performing many tests at close temperature intervals, the peaks have been located as well as seems possible at this time. During this series of tests, it was found, contrary to previous experience, that recrystallized material which had been prestrained about 8 per cent and then recrystallized again was more ductile than recrystallized material which had not had such a treatment. The slow tensile transition temperature was depressed below room temperature, but was above 0 C.

Cuprous selenide and sulfide form improved photovoltaic barriers

Photovoltaic barriers formed by depositing a layer of polycrystalline cuprous sulfide or cuprous selenide on gallium arsenide are chemically and electrically stable. The stability of these barrier materials is significantly greater than that of cuprous iodide.

Stress corrosion crack inhibiting method for titanium

Addition of oxyanions to liquid solvents in excess of the number of chloride, bromide, or iodide ions present prevents cracking of titanium-aluminum alloys under exposure to aqueous and other solvent environments. The molar concentration of oxyanion is set from 10 to 100 times higher than concentration of halide ions.
