Low Boom Configuration Analysis with FUN3D Adjoint Simulation Framework

Off-body pressure, forces, and moments for the Gulfstream Low Boom Model are computed with a Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes solver coupled with the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) turbulence model. This is the first application of viscous output-based adaptation to reduce estimated discretization errors in off-body pressure for a wing body configuration. The output adaptation approach is compared to an a priori grid adaptation technique designed to resolve the signature on the centerline by stretching and aligning the grid to the freestream Mach angle. The output-based approach produced good predictions of centerline and off-centerline measurements. Eddy viscosity predicted by the SA turbulence model increased significantly with grid adaptation. Computed lift as a function of drag compares well with wind tunnel measurements for positive lift, but predicted lift, drag, and pitching moment as a function of angle of attack has significant differences from the measured data. The sensitivity of longitudinal forces and moment to grid refinement is much smaller than the differences between the computed and measured data.

A Co-Simulation Framework to Study Future Energy-Economy Interactions

Energy-economy interactions are often studied using top-down integrated assessment or economy models that have broad scope but lack the resolution and process detail to consider complex emerging trends across the energy sector. This presentation describes an approach to maintain both detail and scope by linking NREL's highly resolved models of the electricity, transportation, and buildings sectors with a MIT's USREP computable general equilibrium model of the U.S. economy. We will discuss strategies for linking across disparate models along with preliminary results describing the economy-wide impacts of future energy technology innovation.

A Framework for Simulating Turbine-Based Combined-Cycle Inlet Mode-Transition

A simulation framework based on the Memory-Mapped-Files technique was created to operate multiple numerical processes in locked time-steps and send I/O data synchronously across to one-another to simulate system-dynamics. This simulation scheme is currently used to study the complex interactions between inlet flow-dynamics, variable-geometry actuation mechanisms, and flow-controls in the transition from the supersonic to hypersonic conditions and vice-versa. A study of Mode-Transition Control for a high-speed inlet wind-tunnel model with this MMF-based framework is presented to illustrate this scheme and demonstrate its usefulness in simulating supersonic and hypersonic inlet dynamics and controls or other types of complex systems.

Quantum Simulators and Applications on Quantum Framework

Simulating quantum circuits is essential for validating quantum algorithms. However, no single simulator consistently performs best - efficiency depends on circuit structure, entanglement, and depth. In this work, we integrate Qiskit-Aer (state-vector and matrix product state) and QTensor, a tree-tensor-network based simulator, into the Quantum Framework (QFw), a modular platform that supports multiple quantum backends via a unified interface. We also enable distributed quantum approximate optimization algorithm (DQAOA) application compatibility with QFw, allowing sub-problems to be solved in parallel at scale. We then benchmark DQAOA and TFIM (transverse field Ising model) circuits across supported simulators, showing how performance varies significantly with problem type. All simulations are deployed on the Frontier supercomputer using QFw's MPI-based orchestration for distributed, multinode execution. These results underscore the need for simulatoragnostic infrastructure to enable systematic evaluation and highperformance scaling of quantum workloads. QFw provides a practical and extensible path toward reproducible quantum algorithm development across diverse application domains.
