High capacity nonaqueous secondary battery
The potential accuracy of an active multifrequency millimeter-wave technique for the remote measurement of atmospheric pressure at the Earth's surface was investigated by numerical simulation.
Lithium-ion battery systems offer several advantages: intrinsically safe; long cycle life; environmentally friendly; high energy density; wide operating temperature range; good discharge rate capability; low self-discharge; and no memory effect.
Cycle life analysis of the nickel cadmium battery is given. The life prediction equation is limited to spacecraft in low Earth orbits.

This paper is a chemical engineering unit processing treatment of the steps involved in the manufacture of solid propellant motors. The author treats the major processes of raw material preparation, mixing, casting and curing by describing equipment, the processing, steps and some engineering considerations associated therewith. The three simultaneous processes occurring within the solid propellant nixing, namely, homogenization, wetting and curing, are discussed in more detail, briefly touching on control of these reactions and the engineering trade-offs among them.

Mars Pathfinder Lander was powered by Ga-As solar cells and a silver-zinc Battery.
The principles of Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel-Hydrogen spacecraft battery models are discussed. The Ni-Cd battery model includes two phase positive electrode and its predictions are very close to actual data. But the Ni-H2 battery model predictions (without the two phase positive electrode) are unacceptable even though the model is operational. Both models run on UNIX and Macintosh computers.
The OSO-1 represents a recent vintage satellite, or more recent design satellite. A summary of the battery design used on OSO-1 is presented. The temperature effects on voltage and charging-discharging of the battery system are discussed.
Determination of the number of micrometeoroid impact craters on the camera provided an opportunity to make a sensitive direct measurement of the flux of interplanetary dust particles impacting the lunar surface. Optical and scanning electron microscope studies were performed. Low velocity impact and flux analyses are presented.
This document comprises material presented during one session of the Manned Planetary Mission Technology Conference, Lewis Research Center, May 21, 22, and 23, 1963. In order to expedite release to the conferees, the papers are being published with minimum editing and retyping of the original manuscripts. Thus the usual NASA format and style have been compromised. The purpose of the conference was to explore the possibilities and problems of manned planetary space flight. The results and contemplations of the individual papers should in no sense be regarded as a part of NASA plans and programs.
