Author Correction: A genomic catalog of Earth’s microbiomes

In the version of this article initially published, four people were missing from the alphabetical list of IMG/M Data Consortium members: Lauren V. Alteio of the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science, University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria; Jeffrey L. Blanchard of the Biology Department, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst, MA, USA; Kristen M. DeAngelis of the Department of Microbiology, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst, MA, USA; and William Rodriguez-Reillo of the Research Computing Division, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. The error has been corrected in the PDF and HTML versions of the article.

Author Correction: Thickness-dependent magnetic order in CrI3 single crystals

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with intrinsic ferromagnetism provide unique opportunity to engineer new functionalities in nano-spintronics. One such material is CrI3, showing long-range magnetic order in monolayer with the Curie temperature (Tc) of 45 K. Here we study detailed evolution of magnetic transition and magnetic critical properties in response to systematic reduction in crystal thickness down to 50 nm. Bulk Tc of 61 K is gradually suppressed to 57 K, however, the satellite transition at T * = 45 K is observed layer-independent at fixed magnetic field of 1 kOe. The origin of T * is proposed to be a crossover from pinning to depinning of magnetic domain walls. The reduction of thickness facilitates a field-driven metamagnetic transition around 20 kOe with out-of-plane field, in contrast to the continuous changes with in-plane field. The critical analysis around Tc elucidates the mean-field type interactions in microscale-thick CrI3.

Author Correction: A framework to evaluate machine learning crystal stability predictions

In the version of this article initially published, Figs. 1–3, Table 1 and the Supplementary Information presented more models than were present in the accepted version of the article, and which were not discussed in the text. The Supplementary Information has been revised and the figures and table are now updated in the HTML and PDF versions of the article.

An Examination of the Hydropower Licensing and Federal Authorization Process

Site-permitting and regulation are necessary to ensure hydropower projects (both original and relicensed) comply with statutory requirements and address multiple stakeholder priorities that consider a range of factors, including water quality, species protection, cultural resource impacts, and recreation. However, the time involved in acquiring a license for an individual hydropower project can be highly variable by project, leading to increased project costs, financial risks, and uncertainties. In part, this variability is the result of a regulatory structure that has evolved over time to include multiple approvals and compliance requirements administered by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), federal land management agencies, federal and state resource agencies, and Indian Tribes. Ultimately, the time, benefits, costs, and risks to developers associated with hydropower regulatory processes and/or the preparation (e.g., studies) required for regulatory agency review are not well documented or synthesized in the public domain, which may increase uncertainty and variability within the process. This report addresses these needs by presenting results of a comprehensive examination of hydropower licensing including quantitative and qualitative analyses of timelines, causal factors, and their combined effect on risk and costs to developers.

A technique to make an enterprise network a Darknet on the Internet, while providing required services to authorized users

In a well-designed and secure enterprise network, the hosts inside the network are not directly accessible from the Internet. The enterprise firewall blocks direct access to hosts inside the enterprise network and also blocks any attempts to probe or discover information about those hosts from the Internet. However, access to the enterprise network from the Internet is a must in today’s day and age. Hence, specialized mechanisms to allow secure access are implemented.

Qualification of SAS4A/SASSYS-1 for Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor Authorization and Licensing (Final CRADA Report)

This project focuses on assessment and qualification of the SAS4A/SASSYS-1 advanced reactor safety analysis code and its capacity to fulfill requirements associated with license/authorization of a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). Specific objectives of this proposal include: development of a formal documentation requirements matrix that complies with a vendor’s NQA-1 program to identify needs for qualification documentation; completion of software methods qualification gap analysis to identify and close gaps in the verification and validation basis of the software; generation of an Acceptance Test Report to confirm compliance with the software requirements specification; and closure of gaps in Software Design Description (SDD) to assist with the eventual generation of a Modeling Licensing Topic Report (LTR).

Technoeconomic Studies for the Rorex Creek Pumped Storage Hydro Project: An Evaluation of New Pumped Storage Hydro in the Tennessee Valley Authority System

This report evaluates the economic viability of the proposed 1,200 MW, 23,365 MWh Rorex Creek Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) plant that would be located near Pisgah, Alabama. In addressing this question, this study has developed processes, models and data that better value PSH from a utility perspective, more specifically a vertically integrated utility, enabling optimal PSH design and deployment. This study is designed to enhance TVA’s toolset in making PSH investment decisions and contribute to the design of a more cost-effective, stable future grid. These techniques can then be applied to a broader range of assets and utilities.
