Valve technology: A compilation

A technical compilation on the types, applications and modifications to certain valves is presented. Data cover the following: (1) valves that feature automatic response to stimuli (thermal, electrical, fluid pressure, etc.), (2) modified valves changed by redesign of components to increase initial design effectiveness or give the item versatility beyond its basic design capability, and (3) special purpose valves with limited application as presented, but lending themselves to other uses with minor changes.

Piping and tubing technology: A compilation

A compilation on the devices, techniques, and methods used in piping and tubing technology is presented. Data cover the following: (1) a number of fittings, couplings, and connectors that are useful in joining tubing and piping and various systems, (2) a family of devices used where flexibility and/or vibration damping are necessary, (3) a number of devices found useful in the regulation and control of fluid flow, and (4) shop hints to aid in maintenance and repair procedures such as cleaning, flaring, and swaging of tubes.

Selected photographic techniques, a compilation

A selection has been made of methods, devices, and techniques developed in the field of photography during implementation of space and nuclear research projects. These items include many adaptations, variations, and modifications to standard hardware and practice, and should prove interesting to both amateur and professional photographers and photographic technicians. This compilation is divided into two sections. The first section presents techniques and devices that have been found useful in making photolab work simpler, more productive, and higher in quality. Section two deals with modifications to and special applications for existing photographic equipment.

Metallurgy: A compilation

A compilation on the technical uses of various metallurgical processes is presented. Descriptions are given of the mechanical properties of various alloys, ranging from TAZ-813 at 2200 F to investment cast alloy 718 at -320 F. Methods are also described for analyzing some of the constituents of various alloys from optical properties of carbide precipitates in Rene 41 to X-ray spectrographic analysis of the manganese content of high chromium steels.

Testing methods and techniques: Strength of materials and components. A compilation

The methods, techniques, and devices used in testing the mechanical properties of various materials are presented. Although metals and metal alloys are featured prominently, some of the items describe tests on a variety of other materials, from concrete to plastics. Many of the tests described are modifications of standard testing procedures, intended either to adapt them to different materials and conditions, or to make them more rapid and accurate. In either case, the approaches presented can result in considerable cost savings and improved quality control. The compilation is presented in two sections. The first deals specifically with material strength testing; the second treats the special category of fracture and fatigue testing.

A compilation of reports concerning power circuits is presented for the dissemination of aerospace information to the general public as part of the NASA Technology Utilization Program. The innovations in this updated series of compilations dealing with electronic technology represents a carefully selected collection of items on electronic switches and control circuits. Most of the items are based on well-known circuit design concepts that have been simplified or refined to meet NASA's demanding requirement for reliability, simplicity, fail-safe characteristics, and the capability of withstanding environmental extremes.

Digital circuits for computer applications: A compilation

The innovations in this updated series of compilations dealing with electronic technology represent a carefully selected collection of digital circuits which have direct application in computer oriented systems. In general, the circuits have been selected as representative items of each section and have been included on their merits of having universal applications in digital computers and digital data processing systems. As such, they should have wide appeal to the professional engineer and scientist who encounter the fundamentals of digital techniques in their daily activities. The circuits are grouped as digital logic circuits, analog to digital converters, and counters and shift registers.

Electronic test and calibration circuits, a compilation

A wide variety of simple test calibration circuits are compiled for the engineer and laboratory technician. The majority of circuits were found inexpensive to assemble. Testing electronic devices and components, instrument and system test, calibration and reference circuits, and simple test procedures are presented.

Compilation of weights, balance, CG, and moments of inertia for sounding rocket payloads

A compilation of weight, balance, center of gravity, and moments of inertia of various sounding rocket payloads are presented. A permanent record of the physical characteristics of sounding rocket payloads in one location is provided. Data for the weight of payloads which the sounding rockets can support are developed. Illustrations of various sounding rockets to show the space available for payloads are included.

The Nasa earth resources spectral information system: A data compilation, first supplement

The NASA Earth Resources Spectral Information System and the information contained therein are described. It is intended to be used as a supplement to the NASA Earth Resources Spectral Information System: A Data Compilation, N72-28366. This supplement includes approximately 500 rock and mineral, 100 soil, and 30 vegetation bidirectional and directional reflectance, transmittance, emittance, and degree-of-polarization curves in the optical region from 0.2 to 22.0 microns. The data have been categorized by subject and each curve plotted on a single graph. For some rocks and minerals, all curves of the same type, differing only in particle size, have been plotted on one grid as a composite plot. Each graph, composite or single, is fully titled to indicate curve source and is indexed by subject to facilitate user retrieval.

Computer programs: Information retrieval and data analysis, a compilation

The items presented in this compilation are divided into two sections. Section one treats of computer usage devoted to the retrieval of information that affords the user rapid entry into voluminous collections of data on a selective basis. Section two is a more generalized collection of computer options for the user who needs to take such data and reduce it to an analytical study within a specific discipline. These programs, routines, and subroutines should prove useful to users who do not have access to more sophisticated and expensive computer software.
