Gluon saturation effects in exclusive heavy vector meson photoproduction

We study exclusive J/ψ and ϒ photoproduction for proton and Pb targets in the high-energy limit, with the energy dependence computed using the linear Balitsky–Fadin–Kuraev–Lipatov and the nonlinear Balitsky–Kovchegov evolution equations. The difference between these two evolution equations can be directly attributed to gluon saturation physics. We find that for proton targets there is no difference between the two approaches at the energies of the currently available data, while for Pb targets in J/ψ production the data shows a clear preference for the evolution with gluon saturation.

Ising meson spectroscopy on a noisy digital quantum simulator

Abstract Quantum simulation has the potential to be an indispensable technique for the investigation of non-perturbative phenomena in strongly-interacting quantum field theories (QFTs). In the modern quantum era, with Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) simulators widely available and larger-scale quantum machines on the horizon, it is natural to ask: what non-perturbative QFT problems can be solved with the existing quantum hardware? We show that existing noisy quantum machines can be used to analyze the energy spectrum of several strongly-interacting 1+1D QFTs, which exhibit non-perturbative effects like ‘quark confinement’ and ‘false vacuum decay’. We perform quench experiments on IBM’s quantum simulators to compute the energy spectrum of 1+1D quantum Ising model with a longitudinal field. Our results demonstrate that digital quantum simulation in the NISQ era has the potential to be a viable alternative to numerical techniques such as density matrix renormalization group or the truncated conformal space methods for analyzing QFTs.

Novel approaches to determine B ± and B 0 meson production fractions

We propose novel methods to determine the ϒ ( 4 S ) → B + B − and ϒ ( 4 S ) → B 0 B ¯ 0 decay rates. The precision to which they and their ratio are known yields at present a limiting uncertainty around 2% in measurements of absolute B decay rates, and thus in a variety of applications, such as precision determinations of elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and flavor-symmetry relations. The new methods we propose are based in one case on exploiting the ϒ ( 5 S ) datasets, in the other case on the different average number of charged tracks in B ± and B 0 decays. We estimate future sensitivities using these methods and discuss possible measurements of f d / f u at the (HL-)LHC. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for J / ψ weak decays containing a D meson

Using a sample of about 10 billion J / ψ events with the BESIII detector, we search for the weak decays of J / ψ → D ¯ 0 π 0 + c . c . , J / ψ → D ¯ 0 η + c . c . , J / ψ → D ¯ 0 ρ 0 + c . c . , J / ψ → D − π + + c . c . , and J / ψ → D − ρ + + c . c . . Since no significant signal is observed, we set the upper limits of the branching fractions of these decays to be B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 π 0 + c . c . ) < 4.7 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 η + c . c . ) < 6.8 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 ρ 0 + c . c . ) < 5.2 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D − π + + c . c . ) < 7.0 × 10 − 8 , and B ( J / ψ → D − ρ + + c . c . ) < 6.0 × 10 − 7 at the 90% confidence level. Study of light-meson resonances decaying to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study is presented of B + → K S 0 K − π + K + and B + → K S 0 K + π − K + decays based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The K S 0 K π invariant-mass distributions of both B + decay modes show, in the m ( K S 0 K π ) < 1.85 GeV mass region, large activity which is resolved using an amplitude analysis. A simple model, where J P C amplitudes are described by multiple Breit-Wigner functions with appropriate angular distributions, provides a good description of the experimental data. In this approach a complex mixture of J P C = 0 − + , 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes is observed that is dominated by η ( 1405 ) , η ( 1470 ) , η ( 1760 ) , f 1 ( 1285 ) , f 1 ( 1420 ) and h 1 ( 1405 ) resonances. The K S 0 K π Dalitz plots are dominated by asymmetric crossing K * K ¯ bands which are different for the two B + decay modes. This is due to a different interference pattern between the 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes in the two channels. Branching fractions are measured for each resonant contribution. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Lattice calculation of light meson radiative leptonic decays

In this work, we perform a lattice QCD calculation of the branching ratios and the form factors\r\nof radiative leptonic decays P →ℓνℓγ (P= π,K) using Nf = 2+1 domain wall fermion ensembles\r\ngenerated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations at the physical pion mass. We adopt the\r\ninfinite-volume reconstruction (IVR) method, which extends lattice data to infinite volume and\r\neffectively controls the finite-volume effects. This study represents a first step toward a complete\r\ncalculation of radiative corrections to leptonic decays using the IVR method, including both real\r\nphoton emissions and virtual photon loops. For decays involving a final-state electron, collinear\r\nradiative corrections, enhanced by the large logarithmic factors such as ln(m2\r\nπ/m2e) and ln(m2K/m2e), can reach the level of O(10%) and are essential at the current level of theoretical and experimental precision. After including these corrections, our result for π →eνeγ agrees with the PIBETA measurement; for K →eνeγ, our results are consistent with the KLOE data and exhibit a 1.7σtension with E36; and for K →µνµγ, where radiative corrections are negligible, our results confirm the previously observed discrepancies between lattice results and the ISTRA/OKA measurements at large photon energies, and with the E787 results at large muon–photon angles.

Bottomonium meson spectrum with quenched and unquenched quark models

An open question in hadronic phenomenology concerns the “unquenching” effects of higher Fock space components on the leading Fock space description of hadrons. Here, we address this by making a comparison of the bottomonium spectrum as computed with the relativized Godfrey–Isgur quark model and an unquenched coupled channel model driven by the “$^3P_0$” mechanism of hadronic decay. Our results show that both models can describe the spectrum well, indicating that the influence of coupled channel effects can be largely absorbed into the parameters of the quenched quark model. This conclusion is reinforced by a perturbative calculation that shows that the spin-dependence of mass splittings due to mixing with the continuum recapitulates quenched quark model spin-dependent interactions. We also show that softening of the quark-antiquark wavefunction due to continuum mixing improves the description of vector bottomonium decay constants. Together, these results illustrate and substantiate the surprising robustness of simple constituent quark model descriptions of hadrons.

New insights into the doubly charmed exotic mesons

Abstract Using effective Lagrangians constrained by the heavy quark spin symmetry and chiral symmetry, for the light quarks, we analyze the $$D^0 D^0\pi ^+,$$ D 0 D 0 π + , $$\bar{D}^0D^0\pi ^0$$ D ¯ 0 D 0 π 0 and $$D^0\bar{D}^{*0}$$ D 0 D ¯ ∗ 0 invariant mass spectra. Performing a simultaneous analysis of the doubly charmed and charm-anti-charm states gives further insights into the nature of the $$T^+_{cc}$$ T cc + and $$\chi ^0_{c1}(3872),$$ χ c 1 0 ( 3872 ) , exotic hadrons. It is confirmed that both states should lie below their respective $$DD^*$$ D D ∗ / $$D\bar{D}^*$$ D D ¯ ∗ thresholds. Also, the contributions of the triangle and box diagrams are negligible.

Simulating Meson Scattering on Spin Quantum Simulators

Studying high-energy collisions of composite particles, such as hadrons and nuclei, is an outstanding goal for quantum simulators. However, preparation of hadronic wave packets has posed a significant challenge, due to the complexity of hadrons and the precise structure of wave packets. This has limited demonstrations of hadron scattering on quantum simulators to date. Observations of confinement and composite excitations in quantum spin systems have opened up the possibility to explore scattering dynamics in spin models. In this article, we develop two methods to create entangled spin states corresponding to wave packets of composite particles in analog quantum simulators of Ising spin Hamiltonians. One wave-packet preparation method uses the blockade effect enabled by beyond-nearest-neighbor Ising spin interactions. The other method utilizes a quantum-bus-mediated exchange, such as the native spin-phonon coupling in trapped-ion arrays. With a focus on trapped-ion simulators, we numerically benchmark both methods and show that high-fidelity wave packets can be achieved in near-term experiments. We numerically study scattering of wave packets for experimentally realizable parameters in the Ising model and find inelastic-scattering regimes, corresponding to particle production in the scattering event, with prominent and distinct experimental signals. Our proposal, therefore, demonstrates the potential of observing inelastic scattering in near-term quantum simulators.
