Reversal errors of machine tool servomechanisms, and feedback control circuits
TAPDIE, a generalized macro written for the APT numerical control system, cuts threads in stock too big for conventional machines or for which conventional methods are unsuitable. TAPDIE computes the machine tool path necessary and the information is passed on to a post-processor which produces a control tape.
Numerical Control Machine Data Manual provides programmers with specific information for various types and sizes of numerical control machine tools and auxiliary equipment.
Machine tool produces beryllium-copper contact springs for FCC /flat conductor cable/ feed-through receptacles. The springs are heat-treated and plated to impart the required electrical contact properties.
Carriage-rail assembly effects extreme resolution and position accuracy with little friction, and is applicable to such apparatus as optical benches, inspection fixtures, machine tools, and photographic equipment. Directions for assembly construction are given.
Shadowgraph system projects magnified image on screen so that alignment of small electrodes mounted on electrical discharge machines can be corrected and verified. Technique may be adapted to other machine tool equipment where physical contact cannot be made during inspection and access to tool limits conventional runout checking procedures.
Work piece adjustment fixture reduces size, weight and set-up complexity of alignment platforms used in metal blank machining. Design benefits designers and manufacturers of machine tools and measuring equipment.
The automated engineering design (AED) is reviewed, consisting of a high level systems programming language, a series of modular precoded subroutines, and a set of powerful software machine tools that effectively automate the production and design of new languages. AED is used primarily for development of problem and user-oriented languages. Software production phases are diagramed, and factors which inhibit effective documentation are evaluated.
Manual retrieval methods were used to complete 54 searches of interest for the General Aviation Newsletter. Subjects of search ranged from television transmission to machine tooling, Apollo moon landings, electronic equipment, and aerodynamics studies.
Attempts were made to develop a dynamic metal working machine tool system using probability information on external factors and independent disturbances of the parameters. The problem was optimized in two stages: (1) creation of mathematical models under conditions determined by input influences, and (2) processing the results of calculations obtained on such models. Data were obtained on the patterns of distribution of dynamic quality characteristics of the tool, vibration frequencies and amplitudes, attenuation coefficients, and duration of a transition process. These data were obtained using a digital computer, statistical test methods, or logical possibility trees.
Using a few selected examples of the sevral hundred successful transfers of aerospace technology to applications outside the aerospace field, it is shown that aerospace-related new technology does have many valuable nonaerospace uses. The examples presented include technology transfers to the machine tool and petroleum industries as well as to the fields of electric utilities and computer-aided structure design.
Proceedings of a series of technology utilization conferences are presented. Commercial applications of space technology, machine tool and metal fabrication, energy and pollution, and mechanical design are among the topics discussed. Emphasis is placed on technology transfer and the minority businessman.
A real time, adaptive control, automatic welding system was developed. This system utilizes the general case geometrical relationships between a weldment and a weld skate to precisely maintain constant weld speed and torch angle along a contoured workplace. The system is compatible with the gas tungsten arc weld process or can be adapted to other weld processes. Heli-arc cutting and machine tool routing operations are possible applications.
The transfer of NASA technology to the industrial sector is reported. Presentations to the machine tool and robot industries and direct technology transfers of the Adams Manipulator arm, a-c motor control, and the bolt tension monitor are discussed. A listing of proposed RTOP programs with strong potential is included. A detailed description of the rotor technology available to industry is given.
Flange adjusts center of rotation of gimble-mounted objects such as telescopes. Three aluminum plates are machined to have interlocking orthogonal keys and ways. Outer plate is mounted to shaft. Inner plate is attached to object. Middle and inner plate slide along on axis. Screws slide in slots parallel to ways for adjustment, then tighten to lock position along each axis. Device is similar to crossed ways found on industrial machine tools, but simpler, lighter, and much smaller.
Proposed mechanism secures an object in three stages: initial acquisition, alinement, and clamping. Originally developed to aid Space Shuttle crews in retrieving satellites, concept may also be useful in undersea work or as a machine-tool attachment for quick changes of tools.
Computerized system for controlling motion of linear-track accelerator applied to other automated equipment, such as numerically-controlled machine tools and robot manipulators on assembly lines. System controls motions of sled with sine-wave signal created digitally by microprocessor. Dynamic parameters of sled motion are monitored so sled may be stopped safely if malfunction occurs. Sled is capable of sinusoidal accelerations up to 0.5 g with 125-kg load.
Angle resolver pulsed and read under microprocessor control. Pulse generator excites resolver windings with dual slope pulse. System sequentially reads sine and cosine windings. Microprocessor determines angle through which resolver shaft turned from reference angle. Suitable applications include rate tables, antenna direction controllers, and machine tools.
