EUV airglow during active solar conditions. II - Emission between 530 and 930 A

Instrumentation on the Astrobee F sounding rocket on June 27, 1980 gathered EUV airglow data in the 530-930 A range. The 2-4 A resolution data were examined specifically for O II emission lines below 800 A, which were centered at 537-539 A. The emision was attributed to doublet and quartet components and exhibited a branching ratio of 3. A separate identification was made of O II emissions at 581 A. Inclusion of the 2s2p(4)2P state is therefore recommended in photoinization models of cometry and planetary atmospheres.

2015 mid-year review charts of the Human Exploration Telerobotics 2 project that describe the Astrobee free-flying robot and the Robonaut 2 humanoid robot. A planned replacement for Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellite (SPHERES), which is currently in use in the International Space Station (ISS).

ISS Robotic Student Programming

The SPHERES facility is a set of three free-flying satellites launched in 2006. In addition to scientists and engineering, middle- and high-school students program the SPHERES during the annual Zero Robotics programming competition. Zero Robotics conducts virtual competitions via simulator and on SPHERES aboard the ISS, with students doing the programming. A web interface allows teams to submit code, receive results, collaborate, and compete in simulator-based initial rounds and semi-final rounds. The final round of each competition is conducted with SPHERES aboard the ISS. At the end of 2017 a new robotic platform called Astrobee will launch, providing new game elements and new ground support for even more student interaction.

Collaborative Autonomous Logistics

This video shows a demonstration of collaborative autonomous logistics. Turtlebot, a 1-g stand-in for Astrobee, carried REALM sensors around a mockup of ISS in ARGOS to autonomously survey for a cargo bag stowed in a drawer. It provided the location of the bag to Robonaut, which then autonomously climbed across the mockup to the drawer. Robonaut then used the Affordance Template manipulation framework to localize and open the drawer and then again localize and retrieve the cargo bag.

Space Technology Game Changing Development Human Exploration Telerobotics 2

The purpose of the Human Exploration Tele robotics 2 (HET2) project is to mature telerobotics technology to increase the performance, reduce the cost, and improve the success of human space exploration. To do this, HET2 will develop a new robot, the Astrobee free-flying robot, and mature Robonaut 2 to offload routine and repetitive work from astronauts and extend and enhance crew capabilities. HET2 will test these robots in laboratories on the ground and on the International Space Station (ISS).

SPHERES Astrobee Working Group (SAWG) Quarterly meeting. Membership includes MIT, FIT, AFS, DARPA, CASIS, SJSU, and NASA (HQ, KSC, JSC, MSFC, and ARC). Face-to-Face, twice a year Purpose: Information sharing across the SPHERES community. Program office shares National Lab Facility availability. Status of resources (batteries, CO2 tanks, etc.), Overall Calendar (scheduled Test Sessions, upmassreturn), and Updates on new PD, Investigations, and ISS infrastructure. Provide the SPHERES community (PD, investigators, etc.) with up-to-date information to determine opportunities to use the NL Facility. Discuss proposed changes updates to SPHERES Nat Lab which may be required to support a specific activity or research. Discuss specific support requests made to the ISS Office

Integrated System for Autonomous and Adaptive Caretaking (ISAAC): Phase 1 Low-Fidelity Demo

This presentation describes the ISAAC phase 1 low-fidelity demonstration results. The demonstration satisfied the milestone from the Gateway-ISAAC Memorandum of Understanding to "Demonstrate spatial and logical data registration between robotics and spacecraft". It integrated many new ISAAC components, including a spatially linked model, Astrobee multi-sensor mapping, and an integrated data interface. It advanced ISAAC key performance parameters related to mapping, in a lab setting. Areas for phase 1 forward work include: improve maturity toward the high-fidelity demo on the ISS; demonstrate mapping with more sensor modalities; expand initial anomaly detection implementation into a flexible framework with multiple detection algorithms for different tasks; begin open source software release process for releasable ISAAC components.

ISAAC: An Integrated System for Autonomous and Adaptive Caretaking

The Integrated System for Autonomous and Adaptive Caretaking (ISAAC) project is developing technology for autonomous caretaking of spacecraft, primarily during uncrewed mission phases. ISAAC aims to integrate autonomous intra-vehicular robots (IVR) with spacecraft infrastructure (power, life support, etc.) and ground control. It focuses on capabilities required for NASA’s Gateway cis-lunar outpost that also apply to human missions to Mars and beyond. Its development strategy is to test using existing IVR on the ISS (the Astrobee free-flyer and Robonaut dextrous manipulator) as an analog for future IVR on Gateway.
