Successful Cleanroom Installation of PIP-II SSR2 Coupler Using Robotic Arm

The Fermilab Side-Coupled Linac accelerates H- beam from 116 MeV to 400 MeV through seven 805 MHz modules. Twelve wire scanners are present in the Side Coupled Linac and four are present in the transfer line between the Linac and the Booster synchrotron ring. These wire scanners act as important diagnostic instruments to directly collect information on the beam s transverse distribution. The manipulation of the conditions of wire scanner data collection enables further characterization of the beamline, such as calculating emittance and the Twiss parameters of the beam at select regions. Here we present the results of these studies and characterization of the non-Gaussian transverse beam distribution observed.

Laser wavelength selector and output coupler

Optical system eliminates displacement occurring when wavelengths are selected in multiple wavelength laser utilizing intracavity wavelength selection by first-order Littrow reflection of plane grating. Output coupling varies direction of output beam as different wavelengths are selected by grating rotation.

Two-pass-internal second-harmonic generation using a prism coupler.

A dispersive quartz prism is used to couple the total second harmonic generated in both directions by an internal cavity frequency doubler. The study shows that the dispersion of air and mirror reflection phase shifts can be compensated for by a slight nonphase match condition in the doubler.

Coupler for surgery on small animals

Minicoupler simplifies exchange of fluids with organs of laboratory animals enabling one person to perform surgery on experimental animals such as rats and mice. Innovation eliminates obstructing hands and instruments from areas of surgery.

Directional Coupler With Increased Directivity

Diffraction loss reduced by curving one reflector. In improved diplexer, adjustable reflector has toroidal curvature to reduce diffraction loss through open cavity ends. Primarily used in local oscillator diplexers, new design increases signal to noise ratios and therefore ranges of millimeter and submillimeter hetrodyne receivers.

Powerline Coupler for Windmill Motor/Generators

Efficiency at low windspeed increased by firing-angle control. Power coupled from wind-driven induction motor/generator to ac powerline with help from circuit. Circuit reduces power consumed by field windings thereby improving efficiency at low windspeeds. Circuit includes zerocrossing detector, ramp generator and comparator similar to those used to set firing angles for thyristors in power factor motor controllers.

Users' manual for computer program for three-dimensional analysis of coupler-cavity traveling wave tubes

The use of the coupled cavity traveling wave tube for space communications has led to an increased interest in improving the efficiency of the basic interaction process in these devices through velocity resynchronization and other methods. A flexible, three dimensional, axially symmetric, large signal computer program was developed for use on the IBM 370 time sharing system. A users' manual for this program is included.

Shaft Coupler With Friction and Spline Clutches

Coupling, developed for rotor of lift/cruise aircraft, employs two clutches for smooth transmission of power from gas-turbine engine to rotor. Prior to ascent, coupling applies friction-type transition clutch that accelerates rotor shaft to speeds matching those of engine shaft. Once shafts synchronized, spline coupling engaged and friction clutch released to provide positive mechanical drive.

Fiber-Optic Coupler And Dynamic-Range Enhancer For CARS

Simpler equipment yields higher coupling efficiency with fewer adjustments. In improved scheme for coupling coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) signal from measurement volume to monochromator, optical fiber and two lenses used in place of previous system. Cylindrical lenses focus light from optical fiber into beam of approximately rectangular cross section at input plane of monochromator. Optical wedge diverts part of beam in monochromator to produce less-intense secondary image.

Low-Loss Coupler For Microwave Laser-Diode Modulation

Elimination of series resistor reduces loss of radio-frequency power. Quarter-wavelength matching section connected to transmission line eliminates need for resistor near laser diode and extends frequency response of system. Concept significantly extends relatively flat frequency response of laser diode or similar component, while simplifying design of its package, increasing amplitude of output signal, and reducing dissipation of heat by eliminating resistance. Phase characteristics approximately linear and any digital information transmitted not significantly altered.

Shaft mount for data coupler system

A device for mounting a data transmission apparatus to a rotating, tapered, and instrumented shaft is provided. This device permits attachment without interfering with shaft rotation or the accuracy of data output, and prevents both radial and axial slippage of the data transmission apparatus. The mounting device consists of a sleeve assembly which is attached to the shaft by means of clamps that are situated at some distance removed from the instrumented area of the shaft. The data transmission device is secured to the sleeve such that the entire assembly rotates with the shaft. Shim adjustments between sleeve sections assure that a minimum compressive load is transferred to the instrumented area of the shaft and a rubber lining is affixed to a large portion of the interior surface of the sleeve to absorb vibration.

Induction heating coupler

An induction heating device includes a handle having a hollow interior and two opposite ends, a wrist connected to one end of the handle, a U-shaped pole piece having two spaced apart ends, a tank circuit including an induction coil wrapped around the pole piece and a capacitor connected to the induction coil, a head connected to the wrist and including a housing for receiving the U-shaped pole piece, the two spaced apart ends of the pole piece extending outwardely beyond the housing, and a power source connected to the tank circuit. When the tank circuit is energized and a susceptor is placed in juxtaposition to the ends of the U-shaped pole piece, the susceptor is heated by induction heating due to magnetic flux passing between the two ends of the pole piece.
