Legacy Survey of Space and Time Data Preview 2: VisitDetector searchable catalog

We present Rubin Data Preview 2 (DP2), the second data preview from the NDF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Data Preview 2 (DP2) comprises coadds, detection catalogs, and ancillary data products; and when fully released will also include single-epoch images and difference images. DP2 is derived from observations acquired by the LSST Science Camera (LSSTCam) on the Simonyi Survey Telescope at the Summit Facility on Cerro Pachón, Chile, primarily during the on-sky commissioning campaign between 2025-04-16 and 2025-09-21, supplemented by observations taken between 2025-10-25 and 2026-01-06 that overlap the commissioning footprint. The DP2 footprint comprises the Science Validation wide-area survey, five Deep Drilling Fields, and a number of targeted small-field regions, including Trifid and Lagoon, Prawn, M49, and New Horizons, all observed as part of the Rubin First Look campaign. Each field was imaged in up to six broad photometric bands, ugrizy, and coadded to produce deep imaging covering an estimated 3,000 deg2. The addition of single-visit-only areas expands the total DP2 footprint to an estimated 15,000 deg2, with coverage in at least one filter. The median per-visit PSF FWHM across the wide-area survey ranges from 1.17 arcsec in the z band to 1.26 arcsec in g and r bands. The deepest field, reaches estimated coadded 5σ depths of u=26 mag, g=26.8 mag, r=26.3 mag, i=26.1 mag, z=25.3 mag, y=23.9 mag. Based on a roughly five-month primary observing baseline and covering only part of the eventual LSST footprint, DP2's area, depth, and multiband coverage nonetheless support a broad range of early science investigations ahead of LSST Data Release This dataset is a subset of the full data release consisting of a searchable catalog named VisitDetector. This catalog contains per-detector visit metadata. This catalog contains 5,150,198 rows with 56 columns.

Intrinsic self-stressing and low carbon Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) for improved sustainability

Highlights: • A self-stressing criterion for ECC was established and experimentally verified. • An intrinsic self-stressing ECC was developed by utilizing LC3 and CSA cement. • Initial maximum expansion and later expansion loss were successfully tailored. • Expansion mechanism was identified by XRD patterns. • Self-stressing ECC has 64% of the carbon footprint of conventional concrete. Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) is an emerging cementitious composite material with ultra-high ductility. However, its higher cement dosage limits its material greenness and leads to concerns with drying shrinkage. In this research, an ECC utilizing limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) and calcium sulphoaluminate cement (CSA) is investigated, focusing on minimizing the material's embodied carbon while enhancing its durability with intrinsic self-stressing functionality. A self-stressing criterion is theoretically established and experimentally verified. X-ray diffraction patterns reveal an ettringite quantity that modulates the initial expansion and later expansion-reversal of LC3-CSA-ECC to support a persistent self-stressing mechanism. LC3-CSA-ECC has a lower (64%) carbon footprint and similar embodied energy compared to conventional concrete. When combined with the durability advantage (tiny crack, high ductility of 5.5%, and self-stressing function), this low carbon self-stressing ECC holds promise as a sustainable repair material that lowers the embodied and operational carbon in civil infrastructure.

Development of sustainable low carbon Engineered Cementitious Composites with waste polyethylene fiber, sisal fiber and carbonation curing

Engineered cementitious composites (ECC) is an advanced fiber-reinforced cementitious composite with high tensile ductility. However, the binder and fiber system in ECC incur high economic and environmental cost. In this study, a low carbon ECC was developed by substituting virgin polyethylene fiber with waste polyethylene fiber (WPE) from waste marine fishing nets. Carbonation curing was applied to further reduce embodied carbon footprint via direct CO 2 mineralization. This research examined the low carbon ECC’s mechanical properties, including compressive strength and tensile strength and ductility. The CO 2 footprint and material costs of ECC were also investigated. The objective was to develop an ECC competitive to normal concrete economically and environmentally while maintain the unique ductile performance of ECC. Results suggest that carbonation-cured WPE reinforced ECC possesses 50% of the CO 2 footprint and 37% of the cost of traditional concrete. Meanwhile, this low carbon ECC maintains at least 4 MPa tensile strength and 6% tensile ductility. This research demonstrates the feasibility of developing construction materials with low environmental impact while maintaining high performance for civil infrastructure applications. As a result, the adoption of WPE in ECC provides a plausible pathway to recycle marine waste into the construction industry that urgently needs to be decarbonized.

The Role of Fuels in Transforming Energy End-Use in Buildings and Industrial Processes

This book examines what role fuels have in the transformation of end-use in buildings and industrial processes. Energy efficient technologies are necessary to lower the carbon footprint for a transition towards clean energy in a sustainable manner. Efficient utilization of primary energy resources including renewables to support the current and future energy needs while targeting grid resiliency, energy and environmental security, at an affordable cost is of significant value. Analysis of configurations consisting of heat pumps, fuel driven thermal providers and power systems is presented. Sensitivity of electrical grid's carbon intensity towards carbon footprint in comparison with fuel driven technologies is necessary to recognize the true value proposition of currently available energy solutions for different end consumers. Similarly, the role of low carbon, zero carbon, and carbon negative fuels such as power to gas, power to liquid, hydrogen, biogas, etc. in conjunction with polygeneration technologies are discussed. Transformation of the primary energy resources from conventional fossil fuels to renewable fuels or electricity will have a significant impact on the overall carbon footprint of various end use sectors, including buildings. Hence, this book also examines two different scenarios focused on sensitivity of the pace of decarbonization of electrical grid and fuel supply on operational energy related carbon emissions.
