C-AAC Occupancy and Transition Out of CMR [Slides]

This in-depth evaluation was performed in order to gather information for a plan and time estimate of C-AAC space cleanout and handover to the CMR facility once programmatic operations are relocated to other facilities. C-AAC space ownership in CMR wings 1, 5, 7, and 9 have been identified down to the Team level (see subsequent slides and other supporting documentation). This plan assumes that C-AAC activities that support Pu sustainment efforts (Wings 1, 5, and 7) are relocated to PF-4 and RLUOB in mid/end FY24 and current projects in Wing 9 are completed by the end of FY24/mid FY25 (cessation of C-AAC programmatic operations in CMR). This plan assumes that no other programmatic activities are initiated in CMR (e.g. MOX fuel rods). Timing and order of cleanout of programmatic laboratory and office spaces in wings 1, 5, and 7 is dependent upon analytical chemistry operations being established and relocated to RLUOB and PF-4. Timing and order of cleanout of programmatic laboratory and office spaces in wing 9 is dependent upon completion of current projects (MR&R, Thermo Fisher drum, etc.). As C-AAC Teams move out of the CMR building and into other facilities, the spaces occupied by those teams are planned to be targeted for in depth cleanout in the order that teams and capabilities are relocated.

External Release of Organic Scintillator DRiFT Software - Technology Evaluation and Demonstration Project Accomplishments [Slides]

Overview and Objectives: DRiFT post processes radiation transport output from MCNP, and generates realistic nuclear instrumentation response; Organic scintillator response has been developed, tested, and validated with measurements, these instruments are widely used in nuclear safeguards. At the beginning of this project, DRiFT was only available to LANL employees with access to yellow High Performance Computing clusters. Additionally, there are many complicated external software dependencies. Our TED project request proposed using funds to: Comment and clean up code, friendly testing, generating test suites and examples; Expansion of scintillator types natively supported by DRiFT; External release of DRiFT accompanied by documentation. We accomplished all objectives (and many others), they are highlighted in these slides.

State Indicators for Advancing Demand Flexibility and Energy Efficiency in Buildings - Part I [Slides]

This slide deck report identifies objectives and key indicators for state activities that advance demand flexibility in buildings — legislation, utility regulatory proceedings, executive orders and programs. It also illustrates progress to date and identifies trends, gaps, and opportunities. Part I of the report focuses on (1) demand response and (2) energy efficiency targeted to reduce peak demand or integrate with demand response. This section covers building energy codes, appliance and equipment standards, resource standards, utility planning, utility programs, advanced metering infrastructure and meter data, rate design, state programs, state energy planning, and related state policies and regulations. Part II of the report addresses traditional energy efficiency indicators, including utility and state programs, codes, and standards that support annual energy savings. See the additional links for an infographic, library of cited state documents on demand flexibility, and presentation to the NASEO-NARUC Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings Working Group.

REopt ® Lite Overview - Resilience Analysis: Clear Sky Tampa Bay [Slides]

Through the Solar Energy Innovation Network (SEIN), the Clear Sky Tampa Bay team, led by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC), developed a toolkit to help local governments prioritize sites for solar photovoltaics (PV) and battery energy storage in the context of resilience and emergency management. At a high level, the Clear Sky Tampa Bay process involves: (1) Identifying sites based on community resilience needs and priorities ("Where do we need a resilient energy solution?"); (2) Screening and prioritizing sites for solar PV and storage suitability based on site conditions and other factors; and (3) Using REopt Lite to screen down-selected facilities to prioritize sites based on resilience project economics. This slide deck focuses on Step 3 above, and provides a general overview of REopt Lite and suggestions and examples tailored to the Clear Sky Tampa Bay team about how to use REopt Lite for additional analysis.
