Fiscal output data produce versatile graphic-numeric charts

Refined computerized plotting system produces low-cost graphic-numeric charts that illustrate fiscal data on monthly incremental or cumulative basis, or both. Output is in the form of hard copy or microfilm, or visual-aid transparencies prepared from hard copy for rapid management status presentations.

The heat pipe - A simple, versatile, efficient heat transfer tool

Heat pipe transports large quantities of heat from source to sink with only small temperature drop. Thermal energy is transferred to and from heat pipe by any combination of conduction, convection, or radiation heat transfer. Pipes transport energy from open flames, nuclear sources, and electronic equipment.

A versatile silver oxide-zinc battery for synchronous orbit and planetary missions

A new kind of silver-zinc cell was developed and tested under NASA support which can withstand severe heat sterilization requirements and does not display the traditional life limiting aspect of sinc electrodes i.e. shape change. These cells could be used on planetary lander mission which require wet-stand periods of over a year, a modest number of cycles (400 to 500) and may require dry heat sterilization. The weight advantage of these cells over the traditional nickel cadmium batteries also makes it an attractive alternative for synchronous orbit service where 400 to 500 cycles would be required over a 5 year period.

A versatile Mossbauer spectrometer and its applications in vibration measurement

A Fe-57 Mossbauer spectrometer, equally efficient in transmission and reflection geometries, is described. The radiation detector consists of a 1.524- by 5.08 by 5.08-cm rectangular NaI(Tl) crystal with a hole 1.524 cm in diameter. The front and back faces of the crystal are covered with beryllium windows 0.0127 cm thick and 3.81 cm in diameter. The energy of the radiation accepted for counting ranges from 6.3 keV conversion X-rays to the 14.4 keV reemitted gamma rays. The spectrometer was used to measure various types of low frequency (10 Hz) and low amplitude (0.254 mm) periodic motion of steel specimens.

A versatile pulse programmer for pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

A digital pulse programmer producing the standard pulse sequences required for pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is described. In addition, a 'saturation burst' sequence, useful in the measurement of long relaxation times in solids, is provided. Both positive and negative 4 V trigger pulses are produced that are fully synchronous with a crystal-controlled time base, and the pulse programmer may be phase-locked with a maximum pulse jitter of 3 ns to the oscillator of a coherent pulse spectrometer. Medium speed TTL integrated circuits are used throughout.

A versatile substrate design for LEED and AES studies in uhv.

A substrate design is described that incorporates a single crystal disk into an electrically isolated, electron bombardment heated mount. Electron and photon leakage from the bombarding filament are prevented, and LEED and AES may be used at elevated temperatures. A cold finger, thermally coupled to the mount, decreases the time lost between cleaning the crystal and cooling it to the desired observation temperature. The cold finger also allows observation at temperatures below ambient.

A versatile flammability test chamber

Relatively inexpensive test chamber safely tests flammability of most materials while allowing constant observation of test. Chamber can be used at various pressures, under controlled atmosphere, and is equipped with probes to vary distance from heat source to test object or to move it for observation from several different angles.

Versatile electronic load

Variable load has very fast response under wide range of simulated dynamic operating conditions, and can accept inputs up to 1000 watts. Many types of signals may be applied to load. Variable pulse generator and flip-flop produce rectangular waveform. Other signals include steady state step and single pulse.

Mussen, K. R.

Versatile, analog-to-digital, power-regulator controller

Power controller uses digital techniques to vary duty ratio of switching-type power regulators. Duty ratio is adjusted by comparing error signal with ramp voltage signal. As compared to previously-used switching regulators, controller uses fewer components and no magnetics and is readily adaptable to thick-film technology.

HALAR fluoropolymer: A versatile insulation material

Research directed toward developing materials for the wire and cable industry has resulted in a new product, E-CTFE copolymer, which has an outstanding combination of electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. The properties of E-CTFE are discussed and compared with those of other commercial fluoropolymers. Particular attention is given to the utility of E-CTFE as a wire and cable insulation.
