Status of a NASA Standard and Three NASA Handbooks

NASA-STD-7003 Pyroshock Test Criteria, May 18, 1999, has been revised per direction of NASA Headquarters to make it a mandatory standard and to update it for advances in the discipline since it's initial release. NASA-HDBK-7004B Force Limited Vibration Testing, January 31, 2003, and NASA-HDBK-7005 Dynamic Environmental Criteria, March 13, 2001, are being updated to reflect advances in the disciplines since their last release. Additionally, a new NASA handbook, NASA-HDBK-7008 Spacecraft Structural Dynamics Testing is currently being prepared. This paper provides an overview of each document, summarizes the major revisions for the documents undergoing update, and provides the development schedules.

EUVE Guest Observer Program Handbook: Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer Guest Observer Documentation: Use with Addendum 1 for 1995 - Appendix G

The Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) is a NASA explorer-class satellite mission devoted entirely to observations in the wavelength range from 70 to 760 Angstroms. The science payload incorporates five separate instruments: four photometric imaging systems and a three-channel EUV spectrometer. During the first phase of the mission, the imaging instruments were used to conduct a complete sky survey in four different bands in the EUV. The survey results are available to the scientific community in the first EUVE sky survey bright source list and the first EUVE all-sky catalog. The second part of the mission is being conducted by NASA as a Guest Observer program, for which pointed spectroscopic observations are conducted for guest scientists under proposals submitted to NASA and supported by the EUVE Guest Observer Center at Berkeley. The mission lifetime will extend through at least a third year of observations. Further extensions of the EUVE mission will be partially contingent upon a review process conducted in September of 1994. To support an extended mission, please contact the chair of the EUVE User 's Committee1 or the EUVE Project Office (address below). The EUVE Guest Observer (EGO) Program is supported by the EUVE Guest Observer Center (EGO Center) at the Center for Extreme Ultraviolet Astrophysics (CEA), at the University of California, Berkeley. The policies of the EGO Program and specified in the NRA. This Handbook is produced by the EGO Center as a guide to choosing appropriate targets for observation and preparing proposals. The rest of this chapter gives a broad overview of the EUVE mission and the EGO Center.

Stereo Cameras for Clouds (STEREOCAM) Instrument Handbook

The three pairs of stereo camera setups aim to provide synchronized and stereo calibrated time series of images that can be used for 3D cloud mask reconstruction. Each camera pair is positioned at approximately 120 degrees from the other pair, with a 17o-19o pitch angle from the ground, and at 5-6 km distance from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Central Facility at the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility Southern Great Plains (SGP) observatory to cover the region from northeast, northwest, and southern views. Images from both cameras of the same stereo setup can be paired together to obtain 3D reconstruction by triangulation. 3D reconstructions from the ring of three stereo pairs can be combined together to generate a 3D mask from surrounding views. This handbook delivers all stereo reconstruction parameters of the cameras necessary to make 3D reconstructions from the stereo camera images.

Uranium Mononitride (UN) Handbook

Uranium Mononitride (UN) is being reexamined as a high temperature advanced nuclear fuel in many reactor applications due to its high thermal conductivity, high melting point, and high fissionable uranium density, among other desirable properties. A thorough review of the experimental data for the material and irradiation properties has been collected and is presented in this handbook. As an outcome of this review, in many cases, it is apparent that additional experimental verification must be conducted to verify the available data and to verify the suggested empirical correlations.

Best Practices Handbook for the Collection and Use of Solar Resource Data for Solar Energy Applications: Fourth Edition

As the world increasingly seeks low-carbon energy solutions, solar power emerges as the most abundant resource on our planet. However, the challenge of effectively harnessing this energy is crucial in the coming years. Solar energy applications such as photovoltaics, solar heating and cooling, and concentrating solar power use different technologies to capitalize on sunlight. Each system has unique capabilities and requirements, underscoring the need for reliable information about solar resources across diverse installations, from residential rooftops to large-scale power plants. This is especially important for substantial projects, often exceeding $1 billion in construction costs. Before embarking on such ventures, it is imperative to obtain accurate data concerning solar resource quality and reliability at specific sites. Developers require detailed historical information, including seasonal, daily, hourly, and, ideally, subhourly variability to effectively predict a power plant's annual performance. Without these vital data, financial analyses fall short. Moreover, with the growing adoption of distributed photovoltaics, integrating these generation sources becomes critical to maintaining grid reliability and stability. By accurately forecasting generation patterns, utilities and system operators can facilitate greater integration of solar energy, thus ensuring the operational stability of the grid. The complexity and importance of these issues have prompted the foremost experts in the field to collaborate under the auspices of the International Energy Agency's (IEA's) Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (PVPS) Task 16 to publish this handbook, which summarizes state-of-the-art information about all these topics. The efforts focus on providing reliable data and insights that can help shape our investments in solar energy and drive a sustainable future.

Handbook for Performing Hydrocarbon Fuel Fires in XTF For Fast-Heat System Level Tests

This document serves to provide information on all aspects of a system level thermal qualification test including a description of the setup and conduct of a full system fuel fire test in the Thermal Test Complex (TTC) Crosswind Test Facility (XTF). This might be referred to as a “handbook” for future tests. This information is intended to assist technologists and test directors in performing these types of tests in the future.
