Software Quality Assurance Plan: Argonne Reactor Code Software

The Argonne Reactor Code (ARC) software package consists of 13 primary and many secondary pieces of software that are connected through interface files. The ARC software suite supports users in their fast reactor design goals by providing neutronic, thermal-hydraulic, and structural analysis capabilities.

Underground Test Area: Calendar Year 2022 Quality Assurance Report, Nevada National Security Site, Nevada

This report is required by the Underground Test Area (UGTA) Activity QAP and identifies the UGTA QA activities for CY 2022. The QA activities included conducting assessments for UGTA Activity QAP compliance, identifying findings and completing corrective actions, evaluating laboratory performance, reviewing technical work, and publishing documents. DRI; LANL; and MSTS did not conduct QA activities for the UGTA Activity in 2022.

Quality Assurance of the Irradiated EBR-II Metallic Fuels Data

The U.S. DOE-NE’s Advanced Reactor Technologies (ART) Fast Reactor Program (FRP) and the NE-4 Advanced Fuels Campaign (AFC) have jointly undertaken efforts to qualify post-irradiation examination (PIE) data for Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II) and Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) metallic fuels. Among the thousands of PIE datasets in the Metallic Fuels Irradiation & Physics Database (FIPD), data from selected EBR-II experiments have been prioritized as the most valuable to the U.S. nuclear industry for licensing activities related to metallic fuel-based advanced fast reactors. This report summarizes the general data qualification progress of the EBR-II and FFTF experiments, with focus on the selected EBR-II experiments.

Quality Assurance of Legacy Post-Irradiation Examination Data for Metallic Fuels

The U.S. DOE-NE’s Advanced Reactor Technologies (ART) Fast Reactor Program (FRP) and the NE-4 Advanced Fuels Campaign (AFC) have jointly undertaken the qualification of the legacy post-irradiation examination (PIE) data held in the Fuels Irradiation & Physics Database (FIPD), covering metallic fuel experiments conducted in the Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II) and the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF). In FY26 this effort reached a milestone: six major types of PIE data—contact profilometry, isotopic gamma scan, fission gas chemistry, fission gas release, laser profilometry, and neutron radiography—have been qualified for all available experiments in FIPD, and the U.S. nuclear industry can now draw on them with confidence in licensing activities for metallic fuel-based advanced fast reactors. This report documents the qualification process and the resulting status of the PIE data.

Split glass tube assures quality in electron beam brazing

Sealed enclosure of heat-resistant glass tubing and silicone rubber molds provide good visibility for electron beam brazing of metal tubes in an inert gas atmosphere. The glass tubing and rubber molds, which are bonded together, are easily applied to and removed from the brazing area by operation of a clamp.

Using the scanning electron microscope on the production line to assure quality semiconductors

The use of the scanning electron microscope to detect metallization defects introduced during batch processing of semiconductor devices is discussed. A method of determining metallization integrity was developed which culminates in a procurement specification using the scanning microscope on the production line as a quality control tool. Batch process control of the metallization operation is monitored early in the manufacturing cycle.

Quality assurance of PMR-15

Controls on the PMR-15 resin and/or prepreg were established to ensure a solid base for the subsequent process development task. The effort was divided into subtasks which included evaluation of commercially available graphite/PMR-15 polyimide prepregs, detailed evaluation of materials and selection of chemical test procedures. During the initial phase of the program a variability problem was detected in the PMR-15 resin. The manufacturing and/or storage of the PMR-15 resin/esters was identified as the chief cause for the variability.
