Trapped-ion Quantum Network Real-time Control Software (QuantNet Real-time Control) v0.1.0

This real-time control software for the QUANT-NET testbed is built upon the ARTIQ (Advanced Real-Time Infrastructure for Quantum physics) ecosystem. A central contribution of this work is the software's modular and reusable architecture, which facilitates the creation of hierarchical experimental control sequences by combining precomposed sequences and subsequences as building blocks within the framework.

Evaluation of LLM-Generated Kokkos Code Using Compile-Time and Run-Time Testing

Due to the growing use of large language models (LLMs) by developers and researchers, it has become essential to reliably evaluate their ability to generate code that uses specialized libraries. We explore the use of compile-time and run-time evaluation of LLM-generated Kokkos code through extending the methods used by OpenAI with the HumanEval dataset. Our evaluation framework is based on the first 40 prompts from the Kokkos138 dataset. We start by discussing two different forms of LLM prompting, using entirely plain English or providing pseudocode for added context. These two methods are used to generate Kokkos code with the Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct and CodeQwen1.5-7B-Chat models. We found that both forms of prompting led to high failure rates and difficulties with reliably parsing LLM-generated code, while prompts with pseudocode for context generally led to improved results on more complicated tests.

The Perils of AI-Assisted Time Conversion Critical Errors in J2000 Time to UNIX/UTC Conversions Using AI Assistants (Technical Memorandum)

This memo addresses a critical issue encountered when using AI assistants for time system conversions, specifically converting data tagged with J2000 seconds through UNIX time to UTC. Initial AI responses to this common conversion task were fundamentally incorrect, with errors exceeding 37 seconds - enough to cause significant issues in many applications. This document demonstrates the problem, quantifies the error, and provides best practices for using AI tools safely in technical work. Both Claude 4.5 Sonnet and ChatGPT GPT-5.5 Thinking gave the same answer.

Early time solution as an alternative to the late time evolving dark energy with DESI DR2 BAO

Recently the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) provided constraints on the expansion history from their Data Release 2 (DR2). The DESI baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements are well described by a flat $\Lambda$CDM model, but the preferred parameters are in mild ($2.3\sigma$) tension with those determined from the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The DESI collaboration has already explored a variety of solutions to this tension relying on variations in the late-time evolution of dark energy. Here we test an alternative -- the introduction of an ``early dark energy'' (EDE) component. We find that EDE models can alleviate the tension, though they lead to differences in other cosmological parameters that have observational implications. Particularly the EDE models that fit the acoustic datasets prefer lower $\Omega_m$, higher $H_0$, $n_s$ and $\sigma_8$ in contrast to the late-time solutions. We discuss the current status and near-future prospects for distinguishing amongst these solutions.

Real-time Anomaly Detection for Liquid Argon Time Projection Chambers

We present a real-time anomaly detection framework for liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs), targeting applications in particle physics experiments such as the Short Baseline Near Detector (SBND) or the future Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). These experiments employ detectors that generate and stream high-resolution but sparse images of neutrino and other particle interactions. Our approach utilizes anomaly detection with autoencoders, compressed through knowledge distillation (KD), to enable the detection of anomalous signals in the data through efficient inference on resource-constrained hardware. The framework is targeted for deployment on computing platforms equipped with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), GPUs, or CPUs, allowing low-latency selection of relevant activity directly from the raw detector data stream. We demonstrate that our approach is suitable for the detection and localization of anomalously "high-multiplicity" activity, and outline promising applications for LArTPC online data filtering and triggering.

Precise time and Time Interval (PTTI) measurements from the navigation technology satellites and the GPS NAVSTAR-4 satellite

A time domain estimate for the NAVSTAR-4 SV clock offset was obtained for each SV pass over the GPS monitor sites, using a smoothed reference ephemeris, with corrections for ionospheric delay, tropospheric delay, earth rotation and relativistic effects. Conversion from the time domain to the frequency domain was made using the two sample Allan Variance; sigma-tau plots used to identify the noise processes. Estimates of flicker and white frequency noise for the NAVSTAR-4 rubidium frequency standard were obtained. The contribution of the reference ground clocks and other error sources to the frequency stability estimates were also considered.

Studies in astronomical time series analysis. I - Modeling random processes in the time domain

Several random process models in the time domain are defined and discussed. Attention is given to the moving average model, the autoregressive model, and relationships between and combinations of these models. Consideration is then given to methods for investigating pulse structure, procedures of model construction, computational methods, and numerical experiments. A FORTRAN algorithm of time series analysis has been developed which is relatively stable numerically. Results of test cases are given to study the effect of adding noise and of different distributions for the pulse amplitudes. A preliminary analysis of the light curve of the quasar 3C 272 is considered as an example.

Proceedings of the Thirteenth Annual Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) Applications and Planning Meeting

Proceedings of an annual Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) Applications and Planning Meeting are summarized. A transparent view of the state-of-the-art, an opportunity to express needs, a view of important future trends, and a review of relevant past accomplishments were considered for PTTI managers, systems engineers, and program planner. Specific aims were: to provide PTTI users with new and useful applications, procedures, and techniques; to allow the PTTI researcher to better assess fruitful directions for research efforts.

Precise time and time interval users, requirements and specifications

The functional areas of application of Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) were considered and expanded. A comprehensive overview of the PTTI requirements and applications would provide an opportunity for individuals working in a specific functional area. Mutual problems, requirements, applications or successes shared by those in other functional areas were studied. Based upon the results of a two year study a compendium of PTTI requirements, applications and the means of meeting the requirements among Department of Defense components, other government agencies and major commercial users was compiled and is presented. It was found that the planning process for PTTI support for new acquisitions or new programs was less than a well defined, coordinated process. The processes are described in general terms and a generic model for requirements determination and subsequent coordination which may enhance the planning process and introduce cost benefits to the program is also presented.

Time-resolved speckle effects on the estimation of laser-pulse arrival times

A maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator of the pulse arrival in laser ranging and altimetry is derived for the case of a pulse distorted by shot noise and time-resolved speckle. The performance of the estimator is evaluated for pulse reflections from flat diffuse targets and compared with the performance of a suboptimal centroid estimator and a suboptimal Bar-David ML estimator derived under the assumption of no speckle. In the large-signal limit the accuracy of the estimator was found to improve as the width of the receiver observational interval increases. The timing performance of the estimator is expected to be highly sensitive to background noise when the received pulse energy is high and the receiver observational interval is large. Finally, in the speckle-limited regime the ML estimator performs considerably better than the suboptimal estimators.
