Measurements of Born cross sections for e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2595 ) − + c . c . and e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − + c . c . at s = 4918.0 and 4950.9 MeV

Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections of e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2595 ) − + c . c . and e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − + c . c . are measured for the first time at center-of-mass energies of s = 4918.0 and 4950.9 MeV. Nonzero cross sections are observed very close to the production threshold. The measured Born cross sections of e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − + c . c . are about 2–3 times greater than those of e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2595 ) − + c . c . , providing the similar behavior as semileptonic decays of Λ b 0 , but different behavior from that in the hadronic decays of Λ b 0 . The Born cross sections are 15.6 ± 3.1 ± 0.9 pb and 29.4 ± 3.7 ± 2.7 pb for e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2595 ) − + c . c . , and are 43.4 ± 4.0 ± 4.1 pb and 76.8 ± 6.5 ± 4.2 pb for e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − + c . c . at s = 4918.0 and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. Based on the polar angle distributions of the Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − and Λ c ( 2625 ) + , the form-factor ratios | G E | 2 + 3 | G M | 2 / | G C | are determined for e + e − → Λ c + Λ ¯ c ( 2625 ) − + c . c . for the first time, which are 5.95 ± 4.07 ± 0.15 and 0.94 ± 0.32 ± 0.02 at s = 4918.0 and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. All of these first uncertainties are statistical and second systematic. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurements of branching fractions of Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η' and asymmetry parameters of Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢π 0 , Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η, and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η'

We report a study of Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , Λ c + → Σ + η , and Λ c + → Σ + η ' using the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 fb - 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. The branching fractions relative to Λ c + → Σ + π 0 are measured as B Λ c + → Σ + η / B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = 0.25 ± 0.03 ± 0.01 and B Λ c + → Σ + η ' / B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = 0.33 ± 0.06 ± 0.02 . Using B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = ( 1.25 ± 0.10 ) % , we obtain B Λ c + → Σ + η = ( 3.14 ± 0.35 ± 0.17 ± 0.25 ) × 10 - 3 and B Λ c + → Σ + η ' = ( 4.16 ± 0.75 ± 0.25 ± 0.33 ) × 10 - 3 . Here the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , respectively. The ratio of the branching fraction of Λ c + → Σ + η ' with respect to that of Λ c + → Σ + η is measured to be B Λ c + → Σ + η ' / B Λ c + → Σ + η = 1.34 ± 0.28 ± 0.08 . We update the asymmetry parameter of Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , α Σ + π 0 = - 0.48 ± 0.02 ± 0.02 , with a considerably improved precision. The asymmetry parameters of Λ c + → Σ + η and Λ c + → Σ + η ' are measured to be α Σ + η = - 0.99 ± 0.03 ± 0.05 and α Σ + η ' = - 0.46 ± 0.06 ± 0.03 for the first time.

Search for charmed baryons in the Λ c + η system and measurement of the branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to Λ c + η and p D 0 relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π

We search for excited charmed baryons in the Λ c + η system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 fb − 1 . The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the Λ c + η mass spectrum, including the known Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + . Clear Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + signals are observed in the p D 0 mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to Λ c + η relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π of < 0.13 for the Λ c ( 2880 ) + and < 1.11 for the Λ c ( 2940 ) + . We measure ratios of branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to p D 0 relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π of 0.75 ± 0.03 ( stat ) ± 0.07 ( syst ) for the Λ c ( 2880 ) + and 3.59 ± 0.21 ( stat ) ± 0.56 ( syst ) for the Λ c ( 2940 ) + . Measurement of the mass and width of the Λ c ⁢(2625) + charmed baryon and the branching ratios of Λ c ⁢(2625) + → Σ$^{0}_{c}$π + and Λ c ⁢(2625) + → Σ$^{++}_{c}$π -

Using the entire data sample of 980 fb -1 collected at or near the Y⁡(4⁢S) resonance with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e - collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the branching ratios of the Λ c (2625) + charmed baryon. The mass difference between Λ c ⁢(2625) + and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ is measured to be M⁡(Λ c ⁢(2625) + )-M⁡(Λ$^{+}_{c}$)=341.518±0.006±0.049 MeV/c 2 . The upper limit on the width is measured to be Γ⁡(Λ c ⁢(2625) + )<0.52 MeV/c 2 at 90% confidence level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode Λ c⁢ (2625) + →Λ$^{+}_{c}$π + ⁢π - are measured to be $\frac{\mathscr{B}⁡(Λ_c(2625)^+ → Σ^{0}_{c}π^+)} {\mathscr{B}⁡(Λ_c(2625)^+ → ^{+}_{c}⁢π^+⁢π^-)}$ = (5.19±0.23±0.40)% and $\frac{\mathscr{B}(Λ_c (2625)^+ → Σ{_c^+}^+ π^-)}{\mathscr{B}(Λ_c (2625)^+ → Λ{_c^+} π^+π^-)}$ = (5.13±0.26±0.32)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models.

Based on ( 2712.4 ± 14.1 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected with the BESIII detector, we study the decays h c → 3 ( π + π − ) π 0 , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) ω , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) π 0 η , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) η , and h c → p p ¯ via ψ ( 3686 ) → π 0 h c . The decay channel h c → 3 ( π + π − ) π 0 is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is determined to be ( 9.28 ± 1.14 ± 0.77 ) × 10 − 3 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, first evidence is found for the modes h c → 2 ( π + π − ) π 0 η and h c → 2 ( π + π − ) ω with significances of 4.8 σ and 4.7 σ , and their branching fractions are determined to be ( 7.55 ± 1.51 ± 0.77 ) × 10 − 3 and ( 4.00 ± 0.86 ± 0.35 ) × 10 − 3 , respectively. No significant signals of h c → 2 ( π + π − ) η and h c → p p ¯ are observed, and the upper limits of the branching fractions of these decays are determined to be < 6.19 × 10 − 4 and < 4.40 × 10 − 5 at the 90% confidence level, respectively. Concurrent Precipitation of Nb(C,N) and Metastable M 23 C 6 in Alloy 347H at 700°C and 750°C: Computer Simulations and Comparison to Experiment

Here, we present our results for the concurrent precipitation of metastable M 23 C 6 , Nb(C,N) secondary precipitates, and the Nb(C,N) primary crystals in 347H austenitic stainless steel. For precipitation modeling, we have accounted for the elastic contribution to interfacial energy, and for the Fe-spin-polarization for NbC/Fe and M 23 C 6 /Fe interfacial energy values: for NbC/Fe ~ 0.63 J/m 2 . For M 23 C 6 precipitates, an error function was used to describe the interfacial energy growth with particle size. In precipitation simulations, the average size of the primary Nb(C,N) particles remained ~ 1 μm at 700°C and ~ 0.3 μm at 750°C. The M 23 C 6 precipitates at 750°C dissolved after 120 h (our simulations) compared to 300 h (experiments). The Nb(C,N)/Fe interfacial energy was not affected by the nitrogen additions. With these modifications, reasonable agreement with the available experimental data was obtained, which allows using them in the development of the 2nd-phase particle-informed creep theory.

Modification of conventional peak shapes to accurately represent spectral asymmetry: High-Resolution X-ray photoelectron spectra of [C 4 C 1 Pyrr][NTf 2 ] and [C 8 C 1 Im][NTf 2 ] ionic liquids

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is one of the most widely used techniques for surface characterization. Analysis of XPS data is challenging and requires the analyst to fit the data with synthetic line shapes to reach physically meaningful interpretations. Experimental spectral envelopes, however, are complex and display asymmetric features that are often ignored or attributed to additional chemical components. The high-resolution XPS spectra of [C 4 C 1 Pyrr][NTf 2 ] and [C 8 C 1 Im][NTf 2 ] all exhibit a degree of asymmetry which is systematically observed at the higher binding energy side of photoemission envelopes. Here, we present the development of a refined fitting procedure for XPS spectra of these ionic liquid-based systems which include (a) Shirley background offset necessary to account for the insulator-like region and (b) spectral asymmetry in C 1s and N 1s regions. Further, Shirley and trapezoid components are applied to compensate for inelastic scattering taking place during electron transitions as high as 7.8 eV above the start of the fitting region in C 1s high-resolution spectrum. To demonstrate the fitness of this model, we present an analysis of a 2:1 mixture of [C 4 C 1 Pyrr][NTf 2 ]: [C 8 C 1 Im][NTf 2 ].

Is the polarization of the C$=$C bond imperative for bifunctional outer-sphere C$=$C hydrogenation?

Understanding controlling factors is important for the development of bifunctional outer-sphere C$=$C hydrogenations. In this study, a dominant view is that the polarization of C$=$C bonds is imperative for these reactions. However, the present comparative DFT study suggests that the polarization of C$=$C bonds is not the controlling factor. Instead, the “push–pull” type π-conjugative effect can decrease activation barriers and contribute to outer-sphere bifunctional C$=$C bond hydrogenations. What is more, this study shows the feasibility of the asymmetric bifunctional outer-sphere C$=$C hydrogenation.

Low temperature catalytic conversion of CH 4 , CO 2 , and C 2 H 4 to value-added C 3 oxygenates and olefins via C 1 -C 2 coupling on Pd-Au/CeO 2

The catalytic conversion of CH 4 and CO 2 in the presence of more reactive co-reactants C 2 H 4 and O 2 on Pd-Au/CeO 2 is achieved at 200 °C and elevated pressures. Propene and acetone were produced from the catalyzed reaction of CH 4 +C 2 H 4 +O 2 ; addition of CO 2 to the reactant stream produced methyl acetate (MAc) but it significantly reduced the C-selectivities of propene and acetone. DRIFTS experiments confirmed the formation of methoxy species from CH 4 +CO 2 at 200 °C, which is an intermediate in the formation of MAc. Here, control experiments with blanks, and with CeO 2 did not show any propene, acetone, or MAc products. The complete oxidation of C 2 H 4 was avoided; the catalyst is stable, and reactant conversions and product yields were sustained for the observed 1200 min time-on-stream, indicating that there is little or no carbon deposition and sintering. This direct coupling of CH 4 and C 2 H 4 intermediates to higher carbon-number products at 200 °C is significant.

First measurements of the absolute branching fraction of Λ c ( 2625 ) + → Λ c + π + π − and upper limit on Λ c ( 2595 ) + → Λ c + π + π −

The absolute branching fraction of the decay Λ c ( 2625 ) + → Λ c + π + π − is measured for the first time to be ( 50.2 ± 5.7 stat ± 3.5 syst ) % with 368.48 pb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energies of s = 4.918 and 4.950 GeV. Although the central value of the result is lower than the theoretical prediction of 67%, obtained from isospin symmetry, they are consistent taking the uncertainties into account. This is the first absolute branching fraction measurement for Λ c ( 2625 ) + since it was found. This measurement is necessary to obtain the coupling constants for the transitions between s -wave and p -wave charmed baryons in heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory. In addition, we search for the decay Λ c ( 2595 ) + → Λ c + π + π − . No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit on its branching fraction is determined to be 85.0% at the 90% confidence level. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Changes in fire weather climatology under 1.5 °C and 2.0 °C warming

Abstract The 2015 Paris Agreement led to a number of studies that assessed the impact of the 1.5 °C and 2.0 °C increases in global temperature over preindustrial levels. However, those assessments have not actively investigated the impact of these levels of warming on fire weather. In view of a recent series of high-profile wildfire events worldwide, we access fire weather sensitivity based on a set of multi-model large ensemble climate simulations for these low-emission scenarios. The results indicate that the half degree difference between these two thresholds may lead to a significantly increased hazard of wildfire in certain parts of the world, particularly the Amazon, African savanna and Mediterranean. Although further experiments focused on human land use are needed to depict future fire activity, considering that rising temperatures are the most influential factor in augmenting the danger of fire weather, limiting global warming to 1.5 °C would alleviate some risk in these parts of the world.
