Materials Data on La2C3 by Materials Project

La2C3 is Plutonium carbide structured and crystallizes in the cubic I-43d space group. The structure is three-dimensional. La3+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine equivalent C2- atoms. There are a spread of La–C bond distances ranging from 2.70–3.00 Å. C2- is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to six equivalent La3+ and one C2- atom. The C–C bond length is 1.33 Å.

Materials Data on LaC by Materials Project

LaC is Tungsten Carbide structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P-6m2 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. La3+ is bonded to six equivalent C3- atoms to form a mixture of distorted edge, face, and corner-sharing LaC6 pentagonal pyramids. All La–C bond lengths are 2.70 Å. C3- is bonded to six equivalent La3+ atoms to form a mixture of distorted edge, face, and corner-sharing CLa6 pentagonal pyramids.
