FLAPS (Fatigue Life Analysis Programs): Computer Programs to Predict Cyclic Life Using the Total Strain Version of Strainrange Partitioning and Other Life Prediction Methods

This manual presents computer programs FLAPS for characterizing and predicting fatigue and creep-fatigue resistance of metallic materials in the high-temperature, long-life regime for isothermal and nonisothermal fatigue. The programs use the Total Strain version of Strainrange Partitioning (TS-SRP), and several other life prediction methods described in this manual. The user should be thoroughly familiar with the TS-SRP and these life prediction methods before attempting to use any of these programs. Improper understanding can lead to incorrect use of the method and erroneous life predictions. An extensive database has also been developed in a parallel effort. The database is probably the largest source of high-temperature, creep-fatigue test data available in the public domain and can be used with other life-prediction methods as well. This users' manual, software, and database are all in the public domain and can be obtained by contacting the author. The Compact Disk (CD) accompanying this manual contains an executable file for the FLAPS program, two datasets required for the example problems in the manual, and the creep-fatigue data in a format compatible with these programs.

Spacecraft Thermal Radiation Environment Computer Program

Computer program computes the total thermal radiation flux on each of a set of exposed surface elements of a spacecraft in the vicinity of a celestial body. The incident flux consists of solar, both direct and planetary-reflected, and planetary-emitted infrared radiation as functions of time.

Four-Cylinder Stirling-Engine Computer Program

Computer program developed for simulating steady-state and transient performance of four-cylinder Stirling engine. In model, four cylinders interconnected by four working spaces. Each working space contains seven volumes: one for expansion space, heater, cooler, and compression space and three for regenerator. Thermal time constant for regenerator mass associated with each regenator gas volume. Former code generates results very quickly, since it has only 14 state variables with no energy equation. Current code then used to study various aspects of Stirling engine in much more detail. Program written in FORTRAN IV for use on IBM 370 computer.

Shuttle environmental and thermal control/life support system computer program

Computer programs developed to simulate the RSECS (representative shuttle environmental control system) are described. These programs were prepared to provide pretest predictions, post-test analysis and real-time problem analysis for RSECS test planning and evaluation. These programs are on a magnetic tape cassette and on a disc device that is part of the WANG-2200 series computer system.

Elfers, F. A.

A power-spectral-density computer program

Computer program simplifies and clarifies random noise vibration test results. It also varies PSD test specifications, sets up automatic equalization equipment, and calculates an exact accleration level for the random noise prior to the test.

Chapman, C. P.

Land landing couch dynamics computer program

Computer programs perform landing stability studies of mechanical impact system designs for advanced spacecraft. The programs consider variation in spacecraft vertical and horizontal velocity, attitude and orientation, shock strut load-stroke characteristics, and ground coefficient of friction.

Herting, D. N.

Modified Multhopp mean camber computer program

Computer program which determines the mean camber surface required to support a given set of loadings on a composite wing in subsonic compressible flow has been developed.

Ratio matching of half-bridge weldable strain gages, computer program

Computer program reduces the unbalance of weldable half-bridge strain gage installations. The program calculates the two resistance ratios of each half-bridge gage, outputting a table of gages ranked according to resistance ratio. The tabulation forms a convenient record of gage characteristics.

Anderson, K. F.

Shell design computer program

Computer program determines the useful strength of a thin-walled shell once it has been wrinkled. It can be used as an analytical tool by designers to determine how much wrinkling or deformation a shell can withstand when subjected to axial compression and bending loads.
