Materials Data on CaBeB2O5 by Materials Project

CaBeB2O5 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ca2+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine O2- atoms. There are a spread of Ca–O bond distances ranging from 2.32–2.99 Å. Be2+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form BeO4 tetrahedra that share corners with two equivalent BeO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent BO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Be–O bond distances ranging from 1.62–1.66 Å. There are two inequivalent B3+ sites. In the first B3+ site, B3+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form BO4 tetrahedra that share corners with two equivalent BO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent BeO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of B–O bond distances ranging from 1.46–1.50 Å. In the second B3+ site, B3+ is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three O2- atoms. There are a spread of B–O bond distances ranging from 1.36–1.42 Å. There are five inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted bent 120 degrees geometry to two equivalent Ca2+ and two B3+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted bent 120 degrees geometry to two equivalent Ca2+, one Be2+, and one B3+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to one Be2+ and two equivalent B3+ atoms. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Ca2+ and one B3+ atom. In the fifth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal non-coplanar geometry to one Ca2+, two equivalent Be2+, and one B3+ atom.
