CeRuSn crystallizes in the monoclinic Cm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are four inequivalent Ce sites. In the first Ce site, Ce is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to two Ru and seven Sn atoms. There are one shorter (2.53 Å) and one longer (2.70 Å) Ce–Ru bond lengths. There are a spread of Ce–Sn bond distances ranging from 3.45–3.52 Å. In the second Ce site, Ce is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to two Ru and seven Sn atoms. There are one shorter (2.55 Å) and one longer (2.69 Å) Ce–Ru bond lengths. There are a spread of Ce–Sn bond distances ranging from 3.46–3.52 Å. In the third Ce site, Ce is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to two Ru and seven Sn atoms. There are one shorter (2.45 Å) and one longer (2.63 Å) Ce–Ru bond lengths. There are a spread of Ce–Sn bond distances ranging from 3.46–3.57 Å. In the fourth Ce site, Ce is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to two Ru and seven Sn atoms. There are one shorter (2.44 Å) and one longer (2.63 Å) Ce–Ru bond lengths. There are a spread of Ce–Sn bond distances ranging from 3.46–3.57 Å. There are four inequivalent Ru sites.
