Near-threshold states in coupled D D * − D * D * scattering from lattice QCD

The first determination of doubly charmed isospin-0 coupled-channel D D * − D * D * scattering amplitudes from lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is presented. The finite-volume spectrum is computed for three lattice volumes with a light-quark mass corresponding to m π ≈ 391 MeV and is used to extract the scattering amplitudes in J P = 1 + via the Lüscher quantization condition. By analytically continuing the scattering amplitudes to complex energies, a T c c pole corresponding to a virtual bound state is found below D D * threshold. We also find a second pole, T c c ′ , corresponding to a resonance pole below the kinematically closed D * D * channel, to which it has a strong coupling. A nonzero coupling is robustly found between the S -wave D D * and D * D * channels producing a clear cusp in the D D * amplitude at the D * D * threshold energy. This suggests that the experimental T c c ′ should be observable in D D * and D * D * final states at ongoing experiments. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Measurement of the D → K - π + π + π- and D → K - π + π 0 coherence factors and average strong-phase differences in quantum-correlated $ D\overline{D} $ decays

The decays D → K - π + π + π - and D → K - π + π 0 are studied in a sample of quantum-correlated \( D\overline{D} \) pairs produced through the process e + e - → ψ (3770) → \( D\overline{D} \) , exploiting a data set collected by the BESIII experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb - 1 . Here D indicates a quantum superposition of a D 0 and a \( {\overline{D}}^0 \) meson. By reconstructing one neutral charm meson in a signal decay, and the other in the same or a different final state, observables are measured that contain information on the coherence factors and average strong-phase differences of each of the signal modes. These parameters are critical inputs in the measurement of the angle γ of the Unitarity Triangle in B - → DK - decays at the LHCb and Belle II experiments. The coherence factors are determined to be R K 3 π = \( {0.52}_{-0.10}^{+0.12} \) and \( {R}_{K{\pi \pi}^0} \) = 0 . 78 ± 0 . 04, with values for the average strong-phase differences that are \( {\delta}_D^{K3\pi }=\left({167}_{-19}^{+31}\right){}^{\circ} \) and \( {\delta}_D^{K{\pi \pi}^0}=\left({196}_{-15}^{+14}\right){}^{\circ} \) , where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. The analysis is re-performed in four bins of the phase-space of the D → K - π + π + π - to yield results that will allow for a more sensitive measurement of γ with this mode, to which the BESIII inputs will contribute an uncertainty of around 6°.

Observation of a Resonant Structure near the D s + D s - Threshold in the B + → D s + D s - K + Decay

An amplitude analysis of the B + → $D^{+}_{s}$ $D^{-}_{s}$ ⁢K + decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X⁡(3960), is observed in the $D^{+}_{s}$ $D^{-}_{s}$ invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width, and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956 ± 5 ± 10 MeV, 43 ± 13 ± 8 MeV, and J P⁢C = 0 ++ , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of c$\overline{c}$s$\overline{s}$ quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the $D^{+}_{s}$ $D^{-}_{s}$ invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0 ++ assignment or by a J/ψ⁢Φ ↔ $D^{+}_{s}$ $D^{-}_{s}$ coupled-channel effect.

Search for rare decays B + → D s ( * ) + η , D s ( * ) + K ¯ 0 , D + η , and D + K 0

We present a study of rare decay modes B + → D$^{+}_{s}$ℎ 0 , B + → D$^{*}_{s}$⁢ + ℎ 0 , and B + → D + ⁢ℎ 0 , where ℎ 0 denotes the neutral meson η or K 0 , using a data sample of (772 ±10) ×10 6 B$\overline{B}$ events produced at the Υ⁡(4⁢S) resonance. The data were collected by the Belle detector operating at the asymmetric-energy KEKB collider. We find no evidence for these decays, so we set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the branching fractions of , , and D + ⁢ℎ 0 decay modes. Along with these rare decay modes, we report improved measurements of the color-suppressed decay branching fractions $\mathscr{B}$⁡($\overline{B}$ 0 →D 0 ⁢η) =(26.6 ±1.2 ±2.1) ×10 -5 and $\mathscr{B}$⁡($\overline{B}$) 0 →D 0 ⁢ $\overline{K}$ 0 ) =(5.6 ±0.5 ±0.2) ×10 -5 . Amplitude analysis of B 0 → D ¯ 0 D s + π - and B + → D - D s + π + decays

Resonant contributions in B 0 → D ¯ 0 D s + π - and B + → D - D s + π + decays are determined with an amplitude analysis, which is performed both separately and simultaneously, where in the latter case isospin symmetry between the decays is assumed. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb -1 . A doubly charged spin-0 open-charm tetraquark candidate together with a neutral partner, both with masses near 2.9 GeV, are observed in the $D_sπ$ decay channel.

Phase Contrast Imaging Diagnostic on DIII-D (1994-2007); Phase Contrast Imaging Diagnostic on DIII-D and Alcator C-Mod (2007-2010); Experimental Study of Waves, Turbulence and Transport, and Model Validation with Phase Contrast Imaging on DIII-D and Alcator C-Mod (2010-2012); Phase Contrast Imaging Diagnostic Upgrade on DIII-D for Measuring High-k Turbulence and Alfven modes (2021-2016); Phase Contrast Imaging Diagnostic Upgrade on DIII-D for Full Multi-Scale Measurements (2016-2020) (Final Report)

This report describes the first twenty-five years of development and use of the Phase Contrast Imaging (PCI) diagnostic for measuring plasma fluctuations on the DIII–D tokamak. One of the key challenges in moving tokamak technology forward to the stage of a nuclear reactor remains understanding how energy and particles are transported across the magnetic field by the action of turbulence and waves, and PCI provides a highly flexible and capable measurement of these fluctuations. The PCI diagnostic uses a laser beam to probe the plasma and optical filtering to produce an amplitude variation on a linear detector array which provides an image of the density waves in the plasma. The PCI covers an exceptional range in frequency and wavelength of the measured fluctuations, allowing observation of plasma-sized magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modes and ion- and electron-scale turbulence. Modulation of the beam amplitude allows measurement of radio frequency (RF) waves.

Topotactic Phase Transformation of Lithiated Spinel to Layered LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2: The Interaction of 3-D and 2-D Li-ion Diffusion

This study investigates the structural evolution of LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 cathode materials for Li-ion batteries as a function of synthesis temperature and its effect on electrochemical performance. It is demonstrated that, as the synthesis temperature increases from 400 to 900 ?C, a gradual topotactic transformation occurs between a lithiated spinel structure, denoted herein as “lithium-excess spinel” LxS-LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 (or LxS-LMNO), and the well-known layered LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 structure prepared at high temperature, HT-LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 (HT-LMNO). The electrochemical capacity of the LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 electrodes follows a parabolic trend with increasing synthesis temperature, which is attributed primarily to the gradual transformation of 3-dimensional (3-D) to 2-dimensional (2-D) diffusion pathways for the Li ions. When synthesized at 400 °C, LxS-LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 electrodes perform well, benefitting from the 3-D network of channels within the LxS structure. By contrast, when prepared at 500-700 °C, LiMn0.5Ni0.5O2 electrodes operate poorly, which is attributed to the formation of locally disordered structural arrangements that impede Li-ion diffusion. Such an increase in local disorder in the mid-temperature synthesis range is attributed to the structural frustration between the lithium-excess spinal and layered end-members. The transformation from the locally disordered to more ordered layered components between 700 °C and 900 °C enhances electrochemical performance. The study opens new avenues for designing next-generation Mn-rich cathode materials by fine-tuning the synthesis conditions as well as the composition and structure of LxS-LMNO electrodes.

Cross section measurements of the $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{*–}$ and $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{–}$ processes at center-of-mass energies from 4.085 to 4.600 GeV

The Born cross sections of the $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{*–}$ and $e^+e^–$ → $D^{*+}D^{–}$ processes are measured using $e^+e^–$ collision data collected with the BESIII experiment at center-of-mass energies from 4.085 to 4.600 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15.7 fb -1 . The results are consistent with and more precise than the previous measurements by the Belle, Babar and CLEO collaborations. The measurements are essential for understanding the nature of vector charmonium and charmonium-like states.

Methyl α‐D‐galactopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐β‐D‐galactopyranoside and methyl β‐D‐galactopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐β‐D‐galactopyranoside: Glycosidic linkage conformation determined from MA'AT analysis

Abstract MA'ATanalysis has been applied to two biologically‐importantO‐glycosidic linkages in two disaccharides, α‐D‐Galp‐(1→3)‐β‐D‐GalpOMe (3) and β‐D‐Galp‐(1→3)‐β‐D‐GalpOMe (4). Using density functional theory (DFT) to obtain parameterized equations relating a group of trans‐O‐glycosidic NMR spin‐couplings to eitherphi(ϕ') orpsi(ψ'), and experimental 3 J COCH , 2 J COC , and 3 J COCC spin‐couplings measured in aqueous solution in 13 C‐labeled isotopomers, probability distributions ofϕ'andψ'in each linkage were determined and compared to those determined by aqueous 1‐μs molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Good agreement was found between theMA'ATand single‐state MD conformational models of these linkages for the most part, with modest (approximately <15°) differences in the mean values ofϕ'andψ', although the envelope of allowed angles (encoded in circular standard deviations or CSDs) is consistently larger forϕ'determined fromMA'ATanalysis than from MD for both linkages. TheMA'ATmodel of the α‐Galp‐(1→3)‐β‐Galplinkage agrees well with those determined previously using conventional NMR methods ( 3 J COCH values and/or 1 H‐ 1 H NOEs), but some discrepancy was observed for the β‐Galp‐(1→3)‐β‐Galplinkage, which may arise from errors in the conventions used to describe the linkage torsion angles. Statistical analyses of X‐ray crystal structures show ranges ofϕ'andψ'for both linkages that include the mean angles determined fromMA'ATanalyses, although both angles adopt a wide range of values in the crystalline state, withϕ'in β‐Galp‐(1→3)‐β‐Galplinkages showing greater‐than‐expected conformational variability.

Improved measurement of the strong-phase difference $\delta _D^{K\pi }$ in quantum-correlated $D{\overline{D}}$ decays

The decay D → K - π + is studied in a sample of quantum-correlated D$\overline{D}$ pairs, based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb -1 collected at the ψ(3770) resonance by the BESIII experiment. The asymmetry between CP-odd and CP-even eigenstate decays into K - π + is determined to be A Kπ = 0.132 ± 0.011 ± 0.007, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement is an update of an earlier study exploiting additional tagging modes, including several decay modes involving a $K^{0}_{L}$ meson. The branching fractions of the $K^{0}_{L}$ modes are determined as input to the analysis in a manner that is independent of any strong phase uncertainty. Using the predominantly CP-even tag D → π + π - π 0 and the ensemble of CP-odd eigenstate tags, the observable $A^{πππ^0}_{Kπ}$ is measured to be 0.130 ± 0.012 ± 0.008. The two asymmetries are sensitive to $r^{Kπ}_{D}$ cos $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$ where $r^{Kπ}_{D}$ and $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$ are the ratio of amplitudes and phase difference, respectively, between the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed and Cabibbo-favoured decays. In addition, events containing D → K - π + tagged by D → $K^{0}_{S,L}$π + π - are studied in bins of phase space of the three-body decays. This analysis has sensitivity to both $r^{Kπ}_{D}$ cos $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$ and $r^{Kπ}_{D}$, sin $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$. A fit to A Kπ , $A^{πππ^0}_{Kπ}$ and the phase-space distribution of the D → $K^{0}_{S,L}$π + π - tags yields $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$ = ($187.6^{+8.9+5.4}_{-9.7-6.4}$)°, where external constraints are applied for $r^{Kπ}_{D}$ and other relevant parameters. This is the most precise measurement of $δ^{Kπ}_{D}$ in quantum-correlated D$\overline{D}$ decays.

Measurement of branching fractions and search for CP violation in $D^0 → π^+π^-η, D^0 → K^+K^-η$, and $D^0 → Φη$ at Belle

We measure the branching fractions and CP asymmetries for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^0 → π^+π^-η, D^0 → K^+K^-η$, and $D^0 → Φη$, using 980 fb -1 of data from the Belle experiment at the KEKB e + e - collider. We obtain $$\mathcal{B}(D^0 → π^+π^-η = \mathrm{[1.22 ± 0.02 (stat) ± 0.02(syst) ± 0.03}(\mathcal{B}_{\mathrm{ref}})] \mathrm{x 10^{-3}}$$ $$\mathcal{B}(D^0 → K^+K^-η = \mathrm{[1.80^{+0.07}_{-0.06}(stat) ± 0.04 (syst) ± 0.05}(\mathcal{B}_{\mathrm{ref}})] \mathrm{x 10^{-4}}$$ $$\mathcal{B}(D^0 → Φη = \mathrm{[1.84 ± 0.09 (stat) ± 0.0 (syst) ± 0.05}(\mathcal{B}_{\mathrm{ref}})] \mathrm{x 10^{-4}}$$ where the third uncertainty ($\mathcal{B}_{\mathrm{ref}}$) is from the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the reference mode $D^0 → K^-π^+η$. The color-suppressed decay $D^0 → Φη$ is observed for the first time, with very high significance. The results for the CP asymmetries are $$A_{CP} (D^0 → π^+π^-η) = \mathrm{[0.9 ± 1.2 (stat) ± 0.5 (syst)]}\%$$ $$A_{CP} (D^0 → K^+K^-η) = \mathrm{[-1.4 ± 3.3 (stat) ± 1.1 (syst)]}\%$$ $$A_{CP} (D^0 → Φη) = \mathrm{[-1.9 ± 4.4 (stat) ± 0.6 (syst)]}\%$$ The results for $D^0 → π^+π^-η$ are a significant improvement over previous results. The branching fraction and A CP results for $D^0 → K^+K^-η$, and the ACP result for $D^0 → Φη$, are the first such measurements. No evidence for CP violation is found in any of these decays.

Observation of D 2 molecule line emission after massive D 2 injection into runaway electron plateaus in DIII-D

Molecular deuterium line emission is observed in both the visible and ultraviolet (UV) wavelength ranges after massive (> 100 Torr-L) injection of D 2 gas into post-disruption runaway electron (RE) dominated plasmas in the DIII-D tokamak. D 2 UV line emission is found to be the dominant source of radiated power, surpassing D Lyα. Interpretive modeling with a collisional-radiative model (CRM) indicates that D 2 radiation surpasses D radiation because Lyα is strongly trapped, while D 2 UV lines are mostly untrapped. The CRM also indicates that the D 2 line emission is completely dominated by RE impact (rather than thermal electron impact), so the D 2 line emission can serve as a good diagnostic for the spatial localization of REs. Analysis of D 2 visible lines indicates that the D 2 molecules in the plasma are thermally equilibrated with the background plasma, with vibrational, rotational, and kinetic temperatures all near 0.3 eV. D 2 spectroscopy therefore serves as a convenient diagnostic of background plasma temperature. As a result, measurement of D 2 radiated power also appears to serve as a useful diagnostic for constraining neutral transport modeling.

Measurement of CP observables in B ± → D (*) K ± and B ± → D (*) π ± decays using two-body D final states

Measurements of CP observables in B ± → D (*) K ± and B ± → D (*) π ± decays are presented, where D (∗) indicates a neutral D or D ∗ meson that is an admixture of meson and anti-meson states. Decays of the D (∗) meson to the Dπ 0 and Dγ final states are partially reconstructed without inclusion of the neutral pion or photon. Decays of the D meson are reconstructed in the K ± π ∓ , K + K - , and π + π - final states. The analysis uses a sample of charged B mesons produced in proton-proton collisions and collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.0, 1.0, and 5.7 fb -1 taken at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements of partially reconstructed B ± → D (*) K ± and B ± → D (∗) π ± with D → K ∓ π ± decays are the first of their kind, and a first observation of the B ± → (Dπ 0 ) D ∗ π ± decay is made with a significance of 6.1 standard deviations. All CP observables are measured with world-best precision, and in combination with other LHCb results will provide strong constraints on the CKM angle γ.
