Nuclear Data Sheets for A=170☆

Nuclear structure data pertaining to all nuclei with mass number A=170 have been evaluated, and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. This evaluation supersedes the previous evaluation (Coral M. Baglin), Nuclear Data Sheets 96, 611 (2002), (cutoff date 15 August 2002) and subsequent updates of the ENSDF file for Yb to Dy (cutoff 15 April 2010), Lu (cutoff 8 October 1998), Pt (cutoff 17 February 1999) and Ta, Os (cutoff 7 April 1998). Since the previous evaluation, {sup 170}Gd has been observed and the ground state T{sub 1/2} measured. New excited states have also been observed in the neutron rich {sup 170}Dy. The ground state T{sub 1/2} of {sup 170}Tb has been determined, however, there are currently still no excited states observed in this nucleus. There remains some uncertainty in the ground state and longer-lived isomer in {sup 170}Ir which could warrent further experimental investigation.

Ultra-low concentration terbium (Tb) adsorption on garlic peels biosorbent and its application for $\mathrm{Nd}$-$\mathrm{Fe}$-$\mathrm{B}$ scraps recovery

Motivated by the strategic value of middle-heavy rare earth elements (MHREEs), we proposed a bio-adsorption method to recover ultra-low concentration terbium (Tb(Ⅲ)) from industrial wastewater that originated from the Nd-Fe-B scraps recovery process. It could be found that Tb(Ⅲ) ions as low as 5.34 ng·mL -1 (ppb) could be adsorbed onto Ca(Ⅱ)-modified garlic peels (Ca-GP) within 10 min with the adsorption efficiency of 99.2% at pH 3.5. The adsorption behavior of Tb(Ⅲ) onto Ca-GP conformed the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Attenuated total reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density-functional theory (DFT) calculations results showed that Tb(Ⅲ) ions could be ion-exchanged with cations in Ca-GP such as Ca(Ⅱ) and -COOH. In application, column experiment results showed that the maximum bed adsorption capacity for Tb, praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd), dysprosium (Dy), and Total rare earth elements (REEs) ions calculated by the Thomas model was 0.06, 3.50, 9.65, 7.34, and 27.37 µg·g -1 , respectively, with the initial concentration of 0.37 ng·mL -1 Tb, 20 ng·mL -1 Pr, 44 ng·mL -1 Nd, 67 ng·mL -1 Dy and 170 ng·mL -1 total REEs ions of actual solutions (below the solubility of rare-earth hydroxide). Here this manuscript thus provided a novel cost-effective and efficient approach to the enrichment and recovery of MHREEs from ultra-low concentration REEs ions-containing solutions.

Enrichment of the Galactic disc with neutron-capture elements: Gd, Dy, and Th

The study of the origin of heavy elements is one of the main goals of nuclear astrophysics. In this paper, we present new observational data for the heavy r-process elements gadolinium (Gd, Z= 64), dysprosium (Dy, Z= 66), and thorium (Th, Z= 90) in a sample of 276 Galactic disc stars (–1.0 < [Fe/H] < + 0.3). The stellar spectra have a high resolution of 42 000 and 75 000, and the signal-to-noise ratio higher than 100. The LTE abundances of Gd, Dy, and Th have been determined by comparing the observed and synthetic spectra for three Gd lines (149 stars), four Dy lines (152 stars), and the Th line at 4019.13 Å (170 stars). For about 70 percent of the stars in our sample, Gd and Dy are measured for the first time, and Th for 95 percent of the stars. Typical errors vary from 0.07 to 0.16 dex. This paper provides the first extended set of Th observations in the Milky Way disc. Here together with europium (Eu, Z= 63) data from our previous studies, we have compared these new observations with nucleosynthesis predictions and Galactic Chemical Evolution simulations. We confirm that [Gd/Fe] and [Dy/Fe] show the same behaviour of Eu. We study with GCE simulations the evolution of [Th/Fe] in comparison with [Eu/Fe], showing that unlike Eu, either the Th production is metallicity dependent in case of a unique source of the r-process in the Galaxy, or the frequency of the Th-rich r-process source is decreasing with the increase in [Fe/H].
