Urban Parameters Maricopa County 100m Grid Spacing

132 urban parameters for Maricopa County are provided in WRF-readable binary form at 100m grid spacing with index. These parameters allow regional weather modelers to account for the contribution of built structures in modeling the urban heat island. This data is also provided in CSV format. Data are generated using 2023 Model America Version 1 data (https://www.osti.gov/biblio/1774134) and will be used to represent the urban morphology in Maricopa County to the WRF model for experiments conducted for the Southwest Urban Corridor Integrated Field Laboratory (SW-IFL). Three files associated with these parameters are included in this repository: index, binary file 00001-01549.00001-01796, Maricopa_Parameters_03072024.csv . To use the binary file with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, the binary file and the index file must be placed in their own directory in WRF_GEOG and accessed in the same way the National Urban Database and Access Portal Tool data (NUDAPT44) would be accessed. The name of the binary file must be in the format: 00001-02715.00001-01803. If, upon download, the binary filename has additional or different characters, please change them to match this format.

Data Repository for Multi-Objective Urban Observational Strategies: A risk-based framework for expanding flood sensor networks.

These data support the manuscript "Multi-Objective Urban Observational Strategies: A risk-based framework for expanding flood sensor networks." These data are generated to allow water managers to reason about optimal locations to expand a flood observation system from multiple perspectives, specifically focusing on flood hazards, and population exposure to flooding. The data included are a) a shapefile of individual sensor locations b) a shapefile of river reach catchments, c) raster of FEMA flood likelihood layers d) shapefile of population locations and population socioeconomic characteristics. The code is written in R and includes all files necessary to generate the figures for the associated manuscript. Interactive maps of the final calculated maps of hazard, vulnerability, exposure, and risk are also included as html files.

VotE-Dams: a compilation of global dams' locations and attributes (v1)

This dataset represents a compilation of two global and three USA-specific datasets of dam locations and their attributes. The major hurdle toward developing this compilation was the identification of duplicates within the source datasets, especially given the variable precision of dam location coordinates. The most immediately-useful product in this dataset is a spreadsheet (VotE-Dams_v1.csv) that documents the unique dams found across the datasets, their coordinates, and their ids within the respective source datasets. We do not reproduce the source datasets (GRaND, GOODD, GeoDAR, NID, and EHA) here, but their download locations are provided in the README files ('Overview' tab). Some of the source datasets are provided as shapefiles, which require geospatial data software to open (e.g. QGIS/ArcGIS for graphical display, geopandas for Python, rgdal for R, many others freely available). The provided README documents metadata of the source datasets and provides attribute-linking information (i.e. matches attributes among various source datasets that contain the same, or similar, information but have different names). Note that the README is provided as both .xslx and a collection of .csvs (one per tab in the .xslx file). We suggest using the .xlsx version that preserves images, formatting, and sheets. .xlsx files can be viewed using (free) Google Docs or Microsoft Excel. Finally, we provide Technical Documentation.pdf that describes the procedures used to identify unique and duplicate dams. The title of this dataset refers to our 'Veins of the Earth' (VotE) project, which seeks to provide a flexible, scale-free representation of the Earth's river networks. Dams are a critical component of VotE as they heavily influence flows throughout river networks.
