Track/train dynamics test report transfer function test. Volume 1: Test

A description is presented of the transfer function test performed on an open hopper freight car loaded with 80 tons of coal. Test data and a post-test update of the requirements document and test procedure are presented. Included are a statement of the test objective, a description of the test configurations, test facilities, test methods, data acquisition/reduction operations, and a chronological test summary. An index to the data for the three test configurations (X, Y, and Z-axis tests) is presented along with test sequence, run number, test reference, and input parameters.

Track/train dynamics test procedure transfer function test

A transfer function vibration test was made on an 80 ton open hopper freight car in an effort to obtain validation data on the car's nonlinear elastic model. Test configuration, handling, test facilities, test operations, and data acquisition/reduction activities necessary to meet the conditions of test requirements are given.

Solar Array Passive Functional Tests

Passive functional tests are required to monitor the health of Mars Pathfinder solar arrays. To accomplish this, a Solar Array Ground Support Equipment Testbed (SAGSET) was proposed with five passive tests to be performed in sequence:.

Test functions for the moment method which yield the minimum mean square error

The method of moments has found extensive applications in the solution of a wide class of electromagnetic problems. Additionally, there are a number of basis functions which have found favor and with them different types of testing methods. This work examines the selection of test functions, given a selected set of basis functions, which serve to minimize the mean square error. These test functions will guarantee equal or lesser error compared with any other test function. Additionally, these test functions provide a monotonic improvement of the approximation as the increase in the order of the system. Hence while these test functions require the application of the differential or integral operator one additional time, they provide an absolute lower bound to the mean square error in the approximation and a means to systematically improve accuracy with each increase in the order of the unknowns.

Simple Test Functions in Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Methods

Two meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) methods based on two different trial functions but that use a simple linear test function were developed for beam and column problems. These methods used generalized moving least squares (GMLS) and radial basis (RB) interpolation functions as trial functions. These two methods were tested on various patch test problems. Both methods passed the patch tests successfully. Then the methods were applied to various beam vibration problems and problems involving Euler and Beck's columns. Both methods yielded accurate solutions for all problems studied. The simple linear test function offers considerable savings in computing efforts as the domain integrals involved in the weak form are avoided. The two methods based on this simple linear test function method produced accurate results for frequencies and buckling loads. Of the two methods studied, the method with radial basis trial functions is very attractive as the method is simple, accurate, and robust.

Weak Form Scientific Machine Learning: Test Function Construction for System Identification

Weak form Scientific Machine Learning (WSciML) is a recently developed framework for data-driven modeling and scientific discovery. It leverages the weak form of equation error residuals to provide enhanced noise robustness in system identification via convolving model equations with test functions, reformulating the problem to avoid direct differentiation of data. The performance, however, relies on wisely choosing a set of compactly supported test functions. In this work, we mathematically motivate a novel data-driven method for constructing Single-scale-Local reference functions for creating the set of test functions. Our approach numerically approximates the integration error introduced by the quadrature and identifies the support size for which the error is minimal, without requiring access to the model parameter values. Through numerical experiments across various models, noise levels, and temporal resolutions, we demonstrate that the selected supports consistently align with regions of minimal parameter estimation error. We also compare the proposed method against the strategy for constructing Multi-scale-Global (and orthogonal) test functions introduced in our prior work, demonstrating the improved computational efficiency.

The alteration of profile analysis to accommodate testing functions

The development of a methodology was studied for testing differences among several pilot functions, where the data points represent averages at various frequencies. Topics discussed include: basic assumptions, hypothesis, profile analysis, alteration of profile analysis to accommodate testing functions, test and procedures, and power of tests.

Hubble Space Telescope On-orbit Transfer Function Test

The paper describes the On-orbit Transfer Function Test (TFT) designed for on-orbit vibration testing of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The TFT provides means for extracting accurate on-orbit characteristics of HST flexible body dynamics, making it possible to check periodically the state of the vehicle on-orbit and to assess changes in modal parameters.

A Scalable Test-Bed for Direct Current Current Transformer Automated Functional Testing and Characterization

This article describes a scalable test-bed for automation of measurements of the direct current current transformers (DCCT). Automation of measurement involves functional measurements, fault event based measurements and data validation. The test-bed is designed to measure up to 20 DCCTs at a time with software based measurement repetition checks and validation of the measurements.

System Level TVAC Functional Testing for the Integrated LCRD Low-Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal (ILLUMA-T) Payload Destined for the International Space Station

The Integrated LCRD Low-Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal (ILLUMA-T) Payload will be launched to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2023. ILLUMA-T is an optical communications payload that will make the ISS the first space-based user to communicate with NASA’s Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD). The system will support all-optical forward links up to 150 Mbps and return links up to 1 Gbps. The payload recently underwent system level Thermal VACuum (TVAC) functional testing at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. We present an overview of the payload’s TVAC functional tests and results.

A system for the functional testing and simulation of custom and semicustom VLSI chips

A system for the functional testing and simulation of custom and semicustom very large scale integrated (VLSI) chips that are designed using the integrated UNIX-based computer-aided design (CAD) system is described. The testing and simulation system consists of two parts. One of these is a special purpose hardware device that is capable of controlling the digital imputs and outputs on a custom chip. This device, the Digital Microcircuit Functionality Tester (DMFT) system, can be operated by itself or in conjunction with the VAX host computer on the CAD system. The DMFT is integrated into a microprobe station so that these signals can be injected or read from nodes inside the chip, as well as at the pins. The second part of the system is a software package that is installed on the VAX. This software package, logic, includes a full-screen editor for developing chip test sequences and drivers for both the DMFT and the esim logic simulator.
