Materials Data on LiFePO4 by Materials Project

LiFePO4 is Ilmenite-derived structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Li1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form LiO6 octahedra that share corners with four equivalent FeO6 octahedra, corners with two equivalent PO4 tetrahedra, edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, edges with two equivalent FeO6 octahedra, and edges with two equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 59–69°. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.11–2.22 Å. Fe2+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form FeO6 octahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent FeO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra, edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one PO4 tetrahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 53–69°. There are a spread of Fe–O bond distances ranging from 2.10–2.27 Å. P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent FeO6 octahedra, an edgeedge with one FeO6 octahedra, and edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 51–59°. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.54–1.57 Å. There are three inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a rectangular see-saw-like geometry to two equivalent Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to one Li1+, two equivalent Fe2+, and one P5+ atom.

Li3Fe2(PO4)3 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2/c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are five inequivalent Li1+ sites. In the first Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to four O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.10–2.16 Å. In the second Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.22–2.34 Å. In the third Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form distorted LiO6 octahedra that share corners with six PO4 tetrahedra and faces with two equivalent FeO6 octahedra. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.20–2.28 Å. In the fourth Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 19–50°. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.54–1.57 Å. In the fourth P5+ site, P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four FeO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 26–47°. There is two shorter (1.53 Å) and two longer (1.57 Å) P–O bond length. There are twelve inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a rectangular see-saw-like geometry to two Li1+, one Fe3+, and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two Li1+, one Fe3+, and one P5+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a bent 150 degrees geometry to one Fe3+ and one P5+ atom. In the ninth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Fe3+, and one P5+ atom. In the tenth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to one Fe3+ and one P5+ atom. In the eleventh O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Fe3+, and one P5+ atom. In the twelfth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to three Li1+, one Fe3+, and one P5+ atom.

Li2Fe3(P2O7)2 crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Li1+ is bonded in a rectangular see-saw-like geometry to four O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.98–2.09 Å. There are two inequivalent Fe2+ sites. In the first Fe2+ site, Fe2+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form FeO5 square pyramids that share a cornercorner with one FeO6 octahedra, corners with five PO4 tetrahedra, and an edgeedge with one FeO5 square pyramid. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 73°. There are a spread of Fe–O bond distances ranging from 2.09–2.20 Å. In the second Fe2+ site, Fe2+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form FeO6 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent FeO5 square pyramids and corners with six PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Fe–O bond distances ranging from 2.19–2.23 Å. There are two inequivalent P5+ sites. In the first P5+ site, P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share a cornercorner with one FeO6 octahedra, corners with three equivalent FeO5 square pyramids, and a cornercorner with one PO4 tetrahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 48°. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.52–1.63 Å. In the second P5+ site, P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with two equivalent FeO6 octahedra, corners with two equivalent FeO5 square pyramids, and a cornercorner with one PO4 tetrahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 40–57°. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.52–1.61 Å. There are seven inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal planar geometry to one Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal planar geometry to two Fe2+ and one P5+ atom. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal planar geometry to two equivalent Fe2+ and one P5+ atom. In the fifth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the sixth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Fe2+, and one P5+ atom. In the seventh O2- site, O2- is bonded in a bent 150 degrees geometry to two P5+ atoms.

Li1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form distorted LiO6 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra, and edges with four equivalent LiO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 37°. There are four shorter (2.12 Å) and two longer (2.39 Å) Li–O bond lengths. Fe3+ is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to five O2- atoms. There is one shorter (1.80 Å) and four longer (2.06 Å) Fe–O bond length. P5+ is bonded to four equivalent O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with eight equivalent LiO6 octahedra.
