Materials Data on K2PtI6 by Materials Project

K2PtI6 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/mnc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. K1+ is bonded in a distorted body-centered cubic geometry to eight I1- atoms. There are four shorter (3.74 Å) and four longer (3.89 Å) K–I bond lengths. Pt4+ is bonded in an octahedral geometry to six I1- atoms. There are two shorter (2.71 Å) and four longer (2.72 Å) Pt–I bond lengths. There are two inequivalent I1- sites. In the first I1- site, I1- is bonded to four equivalent K1+ and one Pt4+ atom to form a mixture of distorted edge and corner-sharing IK4Pt square pyramids. In the second I1- site, I1- is bonded in a distorted trigonal non-coplanar geometry to two equivalent K1+ and one Pt4+ atom.
