Study of charmonium decays to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study of the B + → $K^0_S$K + K - π + and B + → $K^0_S$K + K + π - decays is performed using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV at the LHCb experiment. The $K^0_S$Kπ invariant mass spectra from both decay modes reveal a rich content of charmonium resonances. New precise measurements of the η c and η c (2S) resonance parameters are performed and branching fraction measurements are obtained for B + decays to η c , J/ψ, η c (2S) and χ c1 resonances. In particular, the first observation and branching fraction measurement of B + → χ c0 K 0 π + is reported as well as first measurements of the B + → K 0 K + K - π + and B + → K 0 K + K - π + branching fractions. Dalitz plot analyses of η c → $K^0_S$Kπ and η c (2S) → $K^0_S$Kπ decays are performed. A new measurement of the amplitude and phase of the Kπ S-wave as functions of the Kπ mass is performed, together with measurements of the $K^*_0$(1430), $K^*_0$(1950) and a 0 (1700) parameters. Finally, the branching fractions of χ c1 decays to K* resonances are also measured.

Study of light-meson resonances decaying to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study is presented of B + → K S 0 K − π + K + and B + → K S 0 K + π − K + decays based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The K S 0 K π invariant-mass distributions of both B + decay modes show, in the m ( K S 0 K π ) < 1.85 GeV mass region, large activity which is resolved using an amplitude analysis. A simple model, where J P C amplitudes are described by multiple Breit-Wigner functions with appropriate angular distributions, provides a good description of the experimental data. In this approach a complex mixture of J P C = 0 − + , 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes is observed that is dominated by η ( 1405 ) , η ( 1470 ) , η ( 1760 ) , f 1 ( 1285 ) , f 1 ( 1420 ) and h 1 ( 1405 ) resonances. The K S 0 K π Dalitz plots are dominated by asymmetric crossing K * K ¯ bands which are different for the two B + decay modes. This is due to a different interference pattern between the 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes in the two channels. Branching fractions are measured for each resonant contribution. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Angular analysis of the low K + K – invariant mass enhancement in B + →K + K – π + decays

We study the decay B + →K + K – π + and investigate the angular distribution of K + K – pairs with invariant mass below 1.1 GeV / c 2 . This region exhibits both a strong enhancement in signal and very large direct CP violation. We construct a coherent sum model for the angular distribution of the S- and P-wave, and report the ratio of their amplitudes, the relative phase and the forward-backward asymmetry. We also report absolute differential branching fractions and direct CP asymmetry for the decay in bins of M K+K– and the differential branching fractions in bins of M K+π– . The results are based on a data sample that contains 772 × 10 6 $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ$(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e – collider. The result favors the presence of S- and D-waves in low M K+K– region to the detriment of a P-wave.

Measurement of the branching fractions of the decays Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + , Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + , and Λ c + → Λ K * +

Studies are performed of the Cabibbo-favored decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + , based on a sample of e + e − collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb − 1 , accumulated at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector. The decay Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + is observed for the first time. The branching fractions of Λ c + → Λ K S 0 K + and Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + are measured to be ( 3.04 ± 0.30 ± 0.16 ) × 10 − 3 and ( 1.73 ± 0.27 ± 0.10 ) × 10 − 3 , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results correspond to the most precise measurement of these quantities for both decays. Evidence of a K * + contribution in the Λ c + → Λ K S 0 π + decay is found with a statistical significance of 4.71 σ . The branching fraction of Λ c + → Λ K * + is calculated under three possible interference scenarios, with the significance increasing to 5.03 σ when interference is taken into account. Germanium and germanium-diamond bolometers operated at 4.2K, 2.0K, 1.2K, 0.3K and 0.1K

The design, construction, and performance of state of the art germanium and germanium-diamond bolometers operated at 4.2, 2.0, 1.2, and 0.3 K are discussed. These detectors have a broad range of applications, and are particularly important for the long wavelength (far infrared to millimeter) regions. Current results may be extrapolated to lower temperatures and higher levels of performance. A system which will operate at 0.1 K using a He-4-He-3 dilution refrigerator is under development.

Structural Analysis of K 4 Fe(CN) 6 ·3H 2 O, K 3 Fe(CN) 6 and Prussian Blue

XRD and XAS were used to characterize the bulk structure, while XPS was used to characterize the surface structure, of commercially obtained nominally K 4 Fe(CN) 6 ·3H 2 O, K 3 Fe(CN) 6 and our synthesized Prussian Blue (PB) material. K 4 Fe(CN) 6 ·3H 2 O was found to consist of a fully hydrated phase, which crystallizes in the monoclinic form and a less hydrated or anhydrous phase which crystallizes in the orthorhombic form. K 3 Fe(CN) 6 was found to consist of the well-established orthorhombic form rather than the monoclinic form. The structure of our synthesized Prussian Blue (PB) was found to be consistent with that reported for (KOH) 0.7 Fe(III) 1.33 Fe(II)(CN) 6 ·4.0H 2 O which crystallizes in the cubic form. XPS and XAS confirmed the presence of ferrous Fe(II) at the surface and bulk levels in K 4 Fe(CN) 6 ·xH 2 O. However, XPS revealed the presence of Fe(II) (~30%) and Fe(III) (~70%) in the surface region of K 3 Fe(CN) 6 while XAS confirmed the presence of mostly Fe(III) at the bulk level. Both XPS and XANES confirmed the presence of Fe(II) and Fe(III) in the surface and bulk regions of PB. We report that this ex situ XAS study will be used to support the analysis of an in situ XAS data collected on a PB containing supercapacitor to understand the mechanistic origin of pseudocapacitance in these devices.

Measurement of the branching fractions for Cabibbo-suppressed decays D + → K + K - π + π 0 and D ( s ) + → K + π - π + π 0 at Belle

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays and , and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay , based on of data recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e + ⁢e - collider. We measure these modes relative to the Cabibbo-favored modes D + → K - ⁢π + ⁢π + ⁢π 0 and D$^{+}_{s}$ → K + ⁢K -⁢ π + ⁢π 0 . Our results for the ratios of branching fractions are $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D + →K + ⁢K -⁢ π + ⁢π 0 )/$\mathscr{B}$⁡(D + → K - ⁢π + ⁢π + ⁢π 0 ) =(11.32±0.13±0.26)%, $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D + →K + π - ⁢π + ⁢π 0 )/$\mathscr{B}$(D + →K -⁢ π + ⁢π + ⁢π 0 ) =(1.68±0.11±0.03)%, and $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D$^{+}_{s}$ → K + ⁢π - π + ⁢π 0 )/$\mathscr{B}$⁡(D$^{+}_{s}$ → K + ⁢K - π + π 0 ) =(17.13±0.62±0.51)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The second value corresponds to (5.83 ±0.42) ×tan 4 ⁡θ C , where θ C is the Cabibbo angle; this value is larger than other measured ratios of branching fractions for a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed charm decay to a Cabibbo-favored decay. Multiplying these results by world average values for $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D + → K - ⁢π + ⁢π + ⁢π 0 ) and $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D$^{+}_{s}$ → K + ⁢K - π + π 0 ) yields $\mathscr{B}$( + →K + ⁢K -⁢ π + ⁢π 0 ) = (7.08±0.08±0.16±0.20)×10 -3 , $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D + → K +⁢ π - π + ⁢π 0 ) =(1.05±0.07±0.02±0.03)×10 -3 , and $\mathscr{B}$⁡(D$^{+}_{s}$ → K + ⁢π - π + ⁢π 0 ) =(9.44±0.34±0.28±0.32)×10 -3 , where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the normalization mode. The first two results are consistent with, but more precise than, the current world averages. The last result is the first measurement of this branching fraction.

Ab initio Molecular Dynamics Assessment of Thermodynamic and Transport Properties in (K,Li)Cl and (K, Na)Cl Molten Salt Mixtures

Molten salt mixtures are integral part of highly important technological applications such as nuclear reactors. However, due to inherent difficulties associated with experiment at high temperatures and the intrinsic complexity of liquid-phase multi-component systems, understanding their properties at a molecular level remains a challenge. Here, we report on an ab initio molecular dynamics investigation on structural, electronic, transport, and thermal properties of two common molten salt mixtures, (K, Li)Cl and (K,Na)Cl, at five different compositions and three temperatures. Most of the properties were found to depend on both composition and temperature. While properties, like atomic charges, show additive behaviors, other properties, such as electrical conductivity, show considerable deviations from additivity. We shall show that the mixing of the molten salt mixtures is mainly driven by entropy, and that the KCl and LiCl mix better than KCl and NaCl. Our computational results are in general consistent with available experimental data. Comparison with available theoretical data is also provided.

Search for CP violation in ${D}_{(s)}^{+}$ → K - K + K + decays

A search for direct CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay \( {D}_s^{+} \) → K - K + K + and in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D + → K - K + K + is reported. The analysis is performed with data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 fb - 1 . The search is conducted by comparing the \( {D}_{(s)}^{+} \) and \( {D}_{(s)}^{-} \) Dalitz-plot distributions through a model-independent binned technique, based on fits to the K - K + K + invariant-mass distributions, with a total of 0.97 (1.27) million \( {D}_s^{+} \) ( D + ) signal candidates. The results are given as p -values for the hypothesis of CP conservation and are found to be 13.3% for the \( {D}_s^{+} \) → K - K + K + decay and 31.6% for the D + → K - K + K + decay. No evidence for CP violation is observed in these decays.
