Real-Time Multiregional Market-to-Market Congestion Management Through Exchange of Relief Cost Curve

This paper introduces a novel method for multiregional market-to-market (M2M) coordinated congestion management. It identifies shortcomings in existing M2M approaches, where Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) exchange shadow prices and relief requests to optimize congestion relief allocations across interconnected regions. Two methods are proposed to enhance flow and price convergence. The first method proposes that both Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) use state-estimator flows directly to determine relief requirements, eliminating delays and potential oscillations caused by using market flows calculated from the prior period under existing M2M approach. The second method involves exchanging transmission relief cost curves, enabling each RTOs to integrate other RTOs' relief costs curve into its real-time security-constrained economic dispatch (SCED). This method can effectively extend the coordination to multiple transmission lines and across more than two RTOs. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is also applied to the M2M coordination problem and compared with the proposed methods. Case studies on small and large-scale systems demonstrate the effectiveness of these approaches.

4D Multimodal Co-attention Fusion Network with Latent Contrastive Alignment for Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

Multimodal neuroimaging provides complementary structural and functional insights into both human brain organization and disease-related dynamics. Recent studies demonstrate enhanced diagnostic sensitivity for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) through synergistic integration of neuroimaging data (e.g., sMRI, fMRI) with tabular data (e.g., behavioral and cognitive tests). However, the intrinsic heterogeneity across modalities (e.g., 4D spatiotemporal fMRI dynamics vs. 3D anatomical sMRI structure) presents critical challenges for discriminative feature fusion, often leading to information loss or biased fusion. To bridge this gap, we propose M2M-AlignNet: a multimodal co-attention network with latent alignment for early AD diagnosis using sMRI and fMRI. At the core of our approach is a multi-patch-to-multi-patch (M2M) contrastive loss function that quantifies and reduces representational discrepancies via weighted patch correspondence, explicitly aligning fMRI components across brain regions with their sMRI structural substrates without one-to-one constraints. Additionally, we propose a latent-as-query co-attention module to autonomously discover fusion patterns, circumventing modality prioritization biases while minimizing feature redundancy. We conduct extensive experiments to confirm the effectiveness of our method and highlight the correspondence between fMRI and sMRI as AD biomarkers.

Dynamic Boundary Microgrids Under Privatization Considerations

Microgrids have physical, electrical, and logical (data, network, and ownership) boundaries. To power unserved customer loads during an outage, microgrids can extend the traditional operational boundaries. This can become complex when considering microgrid-to-microgrid (M2M) interactions where sensitive information such as competitive microgrid operational data is not shared. This work proposes an optimization method coordinated between microgrid controllers and distribution management systems that limits data sharing. The method involves a competitive bidding strategy that maximizes unserved load coverage while minimizing resource utilization and sensitive operational data sharing among entities. The work is validated on a two-microgrid system with photovoltaic and energy storage systems and curves of load derived from real world residential buildings datasets. Results show that the proposed method, when applied for three distinct use cases of energy storage sufficiency to cover the predefined boundary and/or the expanded boundary, can successfully select and bid the available load coverage.

Interregional Transmission Operational Coordination (IRTOC)

This report presents a modeling and evaluation framework developed through the Inter-Regional Transmission Operational Coordination (IRTOC) project to study market-to-market (M2M) congestion management across day-ahead and real-time markets. The framework extends the Sienna platform through Sienna Decomposition, a multi-stage evaluation architecture that enables flexible representation of multiple regions and systematic assessment of alternative market coordination designs. Additional modeling capabilities include reserve deliverability constraints, High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) optimization for Alternating Current (AC) congestion management, and several real-time distributed coordination algorithms. Case studies using the RTS-GMLC test system and a large-scale Eastern Interconnection model demonstrate that the framework can evaluate alternative coordination structures and quantify their economic and operational impacts. The proposed framework provides a scalable platform for analyzing inter-regional coordination strategies in large-scale electricity markets.
