Digital Signal Combining for Conference Calling

Signals combined with minimal noise by use of sums in read-only memories. Signals from subscribers A and B digitized, transmitted, and combined by addressing ROM. Combining operation electronic equivalent of looking up value of function of two variables in mathematical table. Combined digitized signal transmitted, converted to analog form, and delivered to subscriber C. System intended especially for combining number of separate audio signals into one signal for retransmission, as in telephone conference calling.

TBell: A mathematical tool for analyzing decision tables

This paper describes the development of mathematical theory and software to analyze specifications that are developed using decision tables. A decision table is a tabular format for specifying a complex set of rules that chooses one of a number of alternative actions. The report also describes a prototype tool, called TBell, that automates certain types of analysis.

Confidence limits for small numbers of events in astrophysical data

The calculation of limits for small numbers of astronomical counts is based on standard equations derived from Poisson and binomial statistics; although the equations are straightforward, their direct use is cumbersome and involves both table-interpolations and several mathematical operations. Convenient tables and approximate formulae are here presented for confidence limits which are based on such Poisson and binomial statistics. The limits in the tables are given for all confidence levels commonly used in astrophysics.
