Nuclear Quality Assurance Certification of the MCNP-ORIGEN Activation Automation tool

The MCNP-ORIGEN Activation Automation (MOAA) tool couples MCNP and ORIGEN-S, allowing to support ATR and TREAT experiments by predicting their composition and activity before their irradiation takes place. MOAA is developed and maintained by the Irradiation Experiment Neutronics Analysis group (C-150) at INL. This poster presents the motivation behind the development of MOAA, its main workflow, as well as the software quality assurance (SQA) efforts required by LWP-13620, "Managing Information Technology Assets."

Cross-Section Comparison for Pu-238 Production in the Advanced Test Reactor at Idaho National Laboratory

Qualification of Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) positions for Pu-238 production has been ongoing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). The ATR qualifications have stretched over multiple years during which new techniques have been developed and made available for ATR experiment neutronic analysis. As part of the transition to newer codes, new cross-section libraries have been evaluated for use in the Pu-238 production experiment analysis. A comparative study was done using the MCNP ORGIEN Activation Analysis (MOAA) tool between ENDF/B-VII.0 and ENDF/B-VIII.0 cross sections to capture the impact of the change in cross-sections on the analysis needed to qualify Pu-238 production targets. All comparisons were done assuming the ATR GEN-I targets were located in the south flux trap of the ATR. Finally, an overview of how this qualification and potential irradiation fits into Pu-238 is discussed.

AGR 1 and 2 Isotopic Depletion Validation

This presentation includes work performed developing a computational benchmark for the AGR 1 and 2 experiments. These experiments involve irradiation of TRISO particle compact in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). Many post-irradiation measurements were made from these experiments, including isotopic concentrations of fission products. The benchmark involves a MCNP-ORIGEN coupled model of the ATR and AGR experiment capsules to calculate a comprehensive inventory of fission product and actinide concentrations in the compacts. This presentation describes the experiments, the measurements obtained, the benchmark model, and results of the model evaluation.
